  • Euganean Hills the Euganean Hills Are Located in the Veneto Region
Euganean Hills The Euganean Hills are located in the Veneto region. They are often referred to as “sea cliffs” that stand proudly at the heart of the eastern part of the river Po Valley. This group of hills stands out on the south-westerly horizon of the province of Padua, at approx. 60 kilometres from Venice and on a clear day the clock tower in St. Mark's Square can be seen from the top of Mount Gemola. The Euganean Hills cover a total area of approx. 19,000 hectares. The perimeter of the area is 65 kilometres, with around one hundred hills which reach a maximum height of 604 meters asl, as in the case of Mount Venda. The area is made up of 15 municipalities areas and since 1989 they have been protected by the Euganean Hills Regional Park authority. The hills were formed by a series of volcanic eruptions. The first activity dates at about 43 million years ago, but it was only the second volcanic phase, about 35 million years ago, that gave the region its present shape. From the the lava cooled down rocks like trachyte, rhyolite, latite, and strands of basalt were formed. The climate The climate is milder than that of the surrounding plain, in winter the thermometer doesn't drop below zero as frequently and for as long as it does in the plain. In summer it is cooler and less humid then the lowlands. This explains how the hills with a southern exposure, bathed by direct sunlight, can easily support vegetation like olive trees, cypresses, laurels, and other species of Mediterranean flora.

  • Recreational Demand of the Euganean Hills Regional Park (Veneto – Italy) Tiziano Tempesta, Samer Arkilo
Recreational demand of the Euganean Hills Regional Park (Veneto – Italy) Tiziano Tempesta, Samer Arkilo Abstract — The Euganean Hills Regional Park is a hilly area of about 180 square kilometres that rises isolated in the central Veneto plain. It was established in 1989 but there is no data available on the number of visitors, and economic benefits for the local economy and for the visitors. With the aim of estimating visitor flow, a telephone survey was conducted. A sample of 309 families living on the Veneto and Emilia Romagna plain was interviewed. In order to estimate the visitors’ expenditure, a subsequent in-person survey was made on site. The research highlighted that the Park, with 168 visits per hectare per year, is probably the most frequently visited of the Veneto Region. Also the expenditure of the daily visitors (4.025 euros per hectare per year) and the recreational benefits (837 euros per hectare per year) are much greater than in the other Regional Parks of a similar size. TERNA RATIONALISES THE ELECTRICITY GRID IN THE EUGANEAN HILLS AND BASSA PADOVANA REGION 20 km of old power line between Este and Battaglia Terme to be decommissioned More than 13 km of line removed in the Euganean Hills Regional Park 148 pylons in 8 municipalities will be removed, restoring around 36 hectares of land Rome, 7 August 2018 - Terna has given the green light to the removal of around 20 km of the old 50 kV power line between Este and Battaglia Terme, as part of the rationalisation of the electricity grid in the area of the Euganean Hills and Bassa Padovana and thanks to the entry into service of the 132 kV connections between the substations at Camin and Este S.Croce, and the construction of the primary transformer rooms at Battaglia Nuova, Monselice and Este Nuova. The works, which were given the go-ahead by the municipality of Ospedaletto Euganeo, include the dismantlement of around 20 km of high voltage power line, more than 13 km of which are located in the Euganean Hills Regional Park. Eight municipalities are involved in the works: Ospedaletto Euganeo, Este, Baone, Arquà Petrarca, Monselice, Pernumia, Battaglia Terme and Due Carrare. The decommissioning works include the demolition of 148 pylons and will free approximately 36 hectares of land from the constraints of servitude. Overall, the rationalisation project will be split into three phases: the first, launched by Ospedaletto Euganeo, regards the removal of conductors, pylons and foundations, particularly in agricultural areas between the Este S.Croce substation and the primary transformer room at Este Vecchia.

  • Cantina Colli Euganei.Pub
CANTINA COLLI EUGANEI VENETO, ITALY It has taken various geological periods for our Euganean Hills to become gentle hills capable of protecting vines and exposing them to the sun in a favourable way. It has also taken hundreds of years of human passion to develop a deep and genuine winemaking culture in these lands. Cantina Colli Euganei , the cooperative, was founded in 1949 and produced its first wine in 1951. Situated in the heart of the Veneto region, in the middle of an area that has been dedicated to vine and olive tree growing since ancient times, it is acknowledged by the regulations of 2010 as a DOC and DOCG area. Grapes are grown at wineries in the municipalities of Vo’, Rovolon, Torreglia, Galzignano Terme, Lozzo Atestino, Cinto Euganeo, Arquà Petrarca, Este and Baone, comprising 700 hectares of rows of vines and providing an opportunity to best enhance the character of various wines: from fragrant white wines sweetened by the sun to more intense velvety red wines. THE VENETO Veneto is a wine region in north-eastern Italy, one of a group of three highly productive Italian regions known collectively as the Venezie (after the ancient Venetian Republic) and the biggest DOC producer of the three. Although the Venezie collectively produce more red wine than white, the Veneto region produces more whites under DOC and is home to the famous Soave wines. The region is protected from the harsh northern European climate by the Alps, the foothills of which form the Veneto's northern extremes. These cooler climes are well- suited to white varieties while the warmer Adriatic coastal plains, river valleys, and Garda Lake zone are where DOC reds are produced.

The aim of the RUINS project is to give new life to medieval ruins in Central Europe, valorising them and identifying good practices for their sustainable management and for the development of productive activities that are in line with their cultural, historic and artistic values, in the perspective of their long-term conservation. The monumental complex of Villa Beatrice d’Este was selected as a case study by the project due to the presence of medieval ruins on which, during the 17th century, the villa was built. The case study represents an opportunity to investigate how medieval heritage can make a strong contribution to the valorisation of a complex and stratified heritage site. We thank the Province of Padua, owner of the site, and Enzo Moretto, president of Butterfly Arc Ltd, current manager of the Museum of Villa Beatrice, for the support provided in the collection of data and in the drafting of the plan. 3 INTRODUCTION According to the UNESCO guidelines for the management of World Heritage sites, a management plan is a tool aimed to guarantee and provide coordination for the strategic protection of a heritage site in the long- term1.

BP to the present using AMS-dated sedimentary pollen, microscopic and macroscopic charcoal records. Our study site, Lago della Costa, is the only natural water basin with an undisturbed late-Quaternary sediment accumulation in the northeastern Po Plain. Mixed coniferous-deciduous forests occurred since at latest 14 500 cal. BP. Gradual expansion of e.g. Alnus glutinosa and Carpinus betulus is documented after c. 11 000 cal. BP. A further expansion of Abies alba and Alnus at 9200 cal. BP coincided with a population buildup of these species in the Insubrian region c. 200 km northwest of our site. A further increase of Alnus about 6400 cal. BP was accompanied by an expansion of Castanea sativa and Juglans regia as well as meadow and field plants. This vegetational change was contemporaneous with a huge increase of regional and local fire activity. Our data suggest that fire disturbance favoured strong and moderate re-sprouters, e.g. Alnus, Carpinus and Castanea, whereas fire-sensitive taxa, e.g. Tilia and Abies were disadvantaged. The close link between crops, weeds and fire activity suggests human impact as the main source of changes in Neolithic vegetation and fire regime.
