CIRCULAR 84 OF 2021: AGN ROAD RUNNING 21KM HALF MARATHON

Dear Club Members and Athletes

With great excitement AGN Road Running Commission decided that it is time to get Road Running alive again and we will present a series of road races in the near future. The races will be presented under the current Covid-19 protocols

The first race will be a half marathon with the following information:

Date: Saturday, 4 September 2021

Venue: Sefako Makgato University in Ga-Rankuwa

Start Time: 07:00 to 07:10

Directions: From Akasia take the R80 northwards towards Shoshanguve – cross the N4 Highway – take the first off-ramp after the N4 and turn left on the R566 – After 6km turn right at the robot and follow the M17 (Molotlegi Road) – after 3,5km the entrance to the University is on the right-hand side – ask for directions to the sport fields.

Entries: Under the current lockdown regulations only 100 athletes will be allowed to enter. 30 Entries will be reserved for our elite athletes and 70 entries will be available to club athletes. Only pre-entries will be allowed and must be done on the attached pre-entry link. Closing date for entries is 27 August 2021 or when the limit of 100 entries is reached. Athletes will be checked from the pre-entry list before being allowed to enter the venue

Entry Fee: R100 per athlete and the money must be paid into the following AGN account.

No cash will be taken at the venue.

Prize Money: No prize money will be paid for this first half marathon race and no medals will be available.

Number Collection: Race numbers must be collected on the morning of the race at the venue. Please bring proof of payment and confirmation SMS.

Start Procedure: Athletes will be allowed to start the race in batches from 07:00 to 07:10. No athlete will be allowed to start after 07:10. There will be one controlled entrance to the start area where your race number will be noted. 15 to 20 athletes will be allowed to start in each batch. Please keep social distancing at all times and wear your mask (preferably a disposable mask) up to the command to remove it just before the start.

License Numbers: All athletes must participate with 2021 ASA license numbers. Athletes not belonging to a club must buy a temporary license number from the AGN office at Pilditch during the week before the race. No temporary licenses will be available at the venue on race day. Cost of temporary licenses is R40.

The Route: The route will be a 5km loop to be done 4 times with an extra 1km soon after the start. Athletes are responsible to do their own lap counting (complete 4 laps before going to the finish).

Finish Procedure: Your race number will be noted at the finish and your finish time will be taken. Your official run time will then be calculated, taken your start time in consideration. Results will be published on the Race Results website (www.raceresults.co.za).

On finishing the race please collect a bottle of coke and a bottle of water from the table and leave the area immediately. Please wear a mask once finished. Disposable masks will be available after the finish line.

No club tents or gazebos will be allowed.

Future Races: A 10km race is scheduled for Saturday, 11 September 2021, and more information will follow soon.
