The century - old tradition of cucumber farming is still cherished and appreciated . In 2006, the grateful residents of Lukhovitsy built a monument to render homage to the cucumber and to farmers’ toil . In November 2014, the Luknovitsy Cucumber Growers’ Association was created to protect the famous brand of Lukhovitsy Cucumbers . The Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property has issued a certificate claiming an exceptional right to use the Lukhovitsy Cucumber brand. In 2015, the government of the Lukhovitsy District held the Lukhovitsy Cucumbers festival for the first time. The festival gathers more than 2,000 touris ts and farmers from Moscow, Ryazan, the Moscow Region, and abroad. During the festival, the town of Lukhovitsy holds traditional fairs, theatrical performances, and competitions, provides amusements. Guests of the festival can taste such rare delicacies as “chernaya ukha” (black fish ) soup, i.e. fish boiled in cucumber pickle with spices) and cucumber jam.
