FAO Technical Workshop. 6–9 July 2010, Hermosillo, Mexico. FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Proceedings No. 20. Rome, FAO. 2011. pp. 85–112. SUMMARY The State of Israel has a very diverse climate. Most of the country is in a semi-arid zone, with distinct short winter (wet) and long summer (dry) seasons, and a low annual rainfall of around 500 mm (an overall multi-annual average). The country can be divided into two climatic regions: (1) the southern arid/semi-arid areas have very low annual precipitation (<100 mm) and consist of the Negev Desert and the Arava Valley; this arid zone extends also to the Jordan Valley where annual rainfall is below 300 mm; (2) the central-north of the country that has a temperate, Mediterranean climate and a relatively high annual rainfall (>600 mm). Israel has suffered from a chronic water shortage for years. In recent years, however, the situation has developed into a severe crisis; since 1998, the country has suffered from drought, and the annual rainfall was short of the multi-annual average in most of the years.

  • A Guide to Birding in Israel & Trip Report for 25 April – 5 May 2019
A Guide to Birding in Israel & Trip Report for 25th April – 5th May 2019 Trip Report author: Steve Arlow [email protected] Blog for further images: https://stevearlowsbirding.blogspot.com/ Purpose of this Trip Report / Guide I have visited Israel numerous times since spring since 2012 and have produced birding trip reports for each of those visits however for this report I have collated all of my previous useful information and detail, regardless if they were visited this year or not. Those sites not visited this time around are indicated within the following text. However, if you want to see the individual trip reports the below are detailed in Cloudbirders. March 2012 March 2013 April – May 2014 March 2016 April – May 2016 March 2017 April – May 2018 Summary of the Trip This year’s trip in late April into early May was not my first choice for dates, not even my second but it delivered on two key target species. Originally I had wanted to visit from mid-April to catch the Levant Sparrowhawk migration that I have missed so many previous times before however this coincided with Passover holidays in Israel and accommodation was either not available (Lotan) or bonkersly expensive (Eilat) plus the car rental prices were through the roof and there would be holiday makers everywhere. I decided then to return in March and planned to take in the Hula (for the Crane spectacle), Mt. Hermon, the Golan, the Beit She’an Valley, the Dead Sea, Arava and Negev as an all-rounder. However I had to cancel the day I was due to travel as an issue arose at home that I just had to be there for.

rOCUMENT RESUME ED 045 767 UD 011 084 TITLE Education in Israel3 Report of the Select Subcommittee on Education... Ninety-First Congress, Second Session. INSTITUTION Congress of the U.S., Washington, E.C. House Ccmmittee on Education and Labcr. PUB DATE Aug 70 NOTE 237p. EDRS PRICE EDRS Price MP-$1.00 BC-$11.95 DESCRIPTORS Acculturation, Educational Needs, Educational Opportunities, *Educational Problems, *Educational Programs, Educational Resources, Ethnic Groups, *Ethnic Relations, Ncn Western Civilization, Research and Development Centers, *Research Projects IDENTIFIERS Committee On Education And Labor, Hebrew University, *Israel, Tel Aviv University ABSTRACT This Congressional Subcommittee report on education in Israel begins with a brief narrative of impressions on preschool programs, kibbutz, vocational programs, and compensatory programs. Although the members of the subcommittee do not want to make definitive judgments on the applicability of education in Israel to American needs, they are most favorably impressed by the great emphasis which the Israelis place on early childhood programs, vocational/technical education, and residential youth villages. The people of Israel are considered profoundly dedicated to the support of education at every level. The country works toward expansion of opportunities for education, based upon a belief that the educational system is the key to the resolution of major social problems. In the second part of the report, the detailed itinerary of the subcommittee is described with annotated comments about the places and persons visited. In the last part, appendixes describing in great depth characteristics of the Israeli education system (higher education in Israel, education and culture, and the kibbutz) are reprinted. It is true that the tough boy seemed quite surprised when I simply told him I am going to look for evidence concerning pre ‑war Czechoslovak scout Jews in Israeli archives.

  • Distr. GENERAL S/8818 1
Distr. GENERAL S/8818 1)' September 1968 ORIGINAL: ENGLISH r LETTER DATED 17 SEPTEMBER1968 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ISRAEL ADDRESSEDTO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to refer to my letter of 26 August 1968 (S/8774.) concerning repeated violations of the cease-fire by Jordan and to draw your attention to the continuation and intensification of military attacks from Jordanian territory against Israel since that date, Yesterday, 16 September, at approximately 1000 hours local time, Jordanian forces on the East Bank of the Jordan opened mortar and small arms fire on Israeli forces near Maoz Haim in the Beit Shean Valley. One Israeli soldier was killed and three were wounded. Fire was returned in self-defence. During the night the town of Beit Shean itself was shelled by 130 mm rockets fired from the East Bank of the Jordan. These rockets, of Czechoslovakian manufacture, are standard equipment in Arab armies. As a result of this attack, eight civilians were wounded, The Israel forces fired back on targets across the border from Beit Shean, in the Irbid area. Again, last night, at 2345 hours, artillery and mortar fire was opened on Israeli forces on the West Bank near the Allenby Bridge, from Jordanian territory on the East Bank of the Jordan. Fire was returned in self-defence and the exchange continued until 0300 this morning. These recent incidents follow a series of grave Jordanian violations of the cease-fire during the last three weeks , particulars of the more serious of which are contained in the attached list.

  • Caravan Agur Southeast Caravan
Caravan Agur Southeast Caravan COMING SOON TO OUR COMMUNITY! MEET GILI I'm Gili Yannay from Neve Monosson – a small village 20 minutes from Tel-Aviv. I'm almost 17, and am in 11th grade at Yahud Comprehensive High School. My mother Yael is a literary editor and my father Roni is a business consultant, and both are my closest friends. I'm the youngest sister and very close to my 3 siblings: Tal is a computer science student, Dan is a musician, and my sister Tamar is about to finish her service in the Israeli Defense Forces. I have been in the scouts since I was 8, and it is a centerpiece in my life. In the past two years I have been a counselor of the senior group – the shichva bogeret. In this position I worked to be a role model for the younger kids in our scouts chapter. I have a great passion for music, probably because all of my family members play and sing. I play the cello and the piano and love to sing and dance. Arts also take a great part of my pastime – I paint, make pottery and lately also sew. Last year I went on a student delegation to Germany, where we were hosted by students our age. Together we toured Germany and studied issues connected with the Holocaust. This year they came to Israel to be hosted by us, are we toured Israel together. I love hiking and particularly enjoyed showing my wonderful country to our new friends. I love being in Israel but am also thrilled with the opportunities I will have to connect to my people in the US.
