Rossmeyer, who passed away in 2009, was a longtime friend of YATC Founder Jim Moran and of the school. It was about a program that helped troubled youth learn automotive repair skills. As a child, Carmona was interested in cars and science and how the two worked together. The program seemed a perfect fit for the then 20-year-old who said he realized that, “Hanging out in the streets did not constitute having a bright future.” Looking back, Carmona sees his decision to apply to YATC as a pivotal moment. “Who knew one interview could change my life?” he said. “It’s the small steps that count. That's what I've learned.” Carmona’s difficult family life and vulnerability to Ed Carmona, Class 26 (2005), pictured after a Town Hall meeting with negative elements around him led him down a Valencia Community College Provost Dr. Ruth Prather.
