Abstract: The Vistula Lagoon is a cross-border area with high natural values and a developing market of tourist services. Passenger shipping is an important part of local tourism, but ship owners are insufficiently involved in planning processes and their views on creating shipping development are underrepresented. The article aims to compare the vision of the development of passenger shipping in the Polish part of the Vistula Lagoon between local governments creating the spatial policy and ship owners offering transport services. We have made an attempt to verify the development prospects. The collation of these visions was based primarily on the qualitative analysis of the content of planning and strategic documents (desk research method) and a survey conducted among all six ship owners. Thanks to the comparative analysis, it was possible to show similarities and differences and to indicate recommendations. The paper presents review of the available literature on the subject, thanks to which the research area was identified as unique in Europe. On the one hand, it is a valuable natural area, which is an important tourist destination, on the other hand, there are organizational and infrastructural limitations in meeting the needs of tourists. The threat to the resources part of the groundwater intake Wydrzany approach results from the progressive concentration of chloride ion, mainly in the southern part of the intake and locally in the central part of the water intake. After the launch of the intake at the end of the 1970s, the development of the water table depression, currently reaching the shore of the Lagoon, caused the frontal infiltration of the brackish waters of the Szczecin Lagoon into aquifers and a small amount of brine ascesion from the mesozoic strata. To determine the genesis of salinity, isotopic tests were carried out, including 37Cl chlorine isotopes. Water for the Szczecin Lagoon and groundwater, including the aquifer of the Cretceous, have been sampled. GEOLOGICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL OUTLINE The studied area of research is located in the western part of the Polish Baltic coast, in the the town of Świnoujście, West Pomeranian Voivodeship (fig. 1). There are two morphological forms in the landscape of this island. These are contrasting flat delta areas, being part of the so-called "Swina's Gates" and a varied ordinate of the upland of this island. -

The development of peripheral areas: The case of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland Martin KEBZA a * Abstract The process of peripheralisation of outlying areas is discussed in this article using a case study of West Pomeranian (Zachodniopomorskie) Voivodeship in Poland. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between these peripheral areas and metropolitan core areas. Scalar and vector data on selected indicators in the years 2005 and 2015 for gminas (communes, territorial units NUTS 5) are presented. The values for both years were observed as well as the change between them. A composite indicator based on the calculated data was developed, and it served as the basis for categorisation of metropolitan, 'semi-peripheral' and peripheral areas, which were further defined on the basis of their intrinsic properties and location in the region. The development of such peripheral areas is assessed more generally in the conclusions. Łabuz Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Szczecin, Poland, [email protected] Abstract: This article describe Polish coastal dunes and the factors influencing their development. The Polish coast is 500 km long and mainly exposed for a northerly direction. It is a part of the southern Baltic shore. The Polish coast is composed of mostly loose sand, till and peat. Because the coast hardiness is so weak, it is under constant threat from storm surges as well as human impact caused by rapid infrastructure development and the coastal protection measures put in place to try and protect it. These protection measures destabilize the natural coast dynamics and rebuilding process. Almost 85% of the shoreline is built up by sandy aeolian deposits and covered by different dune types. Among them are typical foredunes or inland dunes in erod- ed coastal areas. The second type of dune coasts are built up by land dunes, which appear on the coast as a result of sea erosion causing land regression. Sometimes dunes can be found over moraine deposits or in front of moraine old cliffs. Nowadays these habitats are heavily threatened by storm surges and human activity. In some places there is an accumulation that leads to new ridge developments. This article describes these issues with an emphasis on the present dynamics of Poland’s coastal areas. Introduction Aim of the European project "UBIS - Urban Baltic Industrial Symbiosis" (INTERREG South- Baltic Programme) is to use biogenic resources as well as waste and residues sustainable in industrial symbiosis and to reduce emissions at the same time. Even if a lot has already been achieved in this area, there are still many unused material flows and there are possibilities to use them even more efficiently. In the project existing collaborations will be investigated as well as new ones identified and evaluated. The regional surveys will enable to use learnings and tools from UBIS project to stimulate further investments in industrial symbiosis with the goal to identify new urban industrial symbiosis opportunities. 2. Investigated area/region/community - Pomeranian Region, Poland The investigated area is the Pomeranian Region or Voivodeship in north-central Poland on the shore of the Baltic Sea. The Voivodeship has an area of 18 310.34 km². With around 2 319 700 inhabitants [4] the population density is 127/km 2. The Pomeranian Voivodeship has 16 counties (powiat) of which four are cities. It has 123 communes (gmina), 42 towns and 2861 rural localities [1]. -
