Fortnight Focus  Events  Education  Research  Extension  General Events Udyana-2018 Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University stall with latest technolo- gies was exhibited in ‘Udyana-2018’ organized by Dept. of Horticulture at Vijayawada from 23.08.2018 to 26.08.2018. The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri. N. Chandrababu Naidu garu. In this programme, Vice-Chancellor along with university officers, Zonal Research Heads for Coastal zone and scientists of

Dr. YSRHU have participated.

ASCI- Training of Master Trainers (ToMT)

As per MoU, Agricultural Skill Council of in collabora- tion with Dr.YSRHU conducted a three days Training of Master Trainers (ToMT) programme from 29th to 31st August, 2018 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem for ten selected job roles. Master Trainers were trained and assessed by the ASCI team to approve the master trainers to take up skill trainings in selected job roles in Horticulture discipline.

PG & Ph.D Counseling

Counseling for M.Sc (Hort.) and Ph.D (Hort.) courses in Colleges of Horticulture of Dr.YSRHU was held at University campus, Venkata- ramannagudem on 29.08.2018 and 30.08.2018 respectively.

Combined counseling for admission into B.Sc (Hort.)

The Combined Counseling for admission in to B.Sc (Hort.) for the year 2018-19 for four constituent colleges of the University was held at RARS, Lam from 25.08.2018 to 31.08.2018.

Education

RHWEP Activities

On 16.08.2018 and 18.08.2018, the RHWEP students allotted to KVK, Pandirimamidi have represented the Resource map and Village map of R.Errampalem and Vedurupaka villages. Miss Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi coordinated the programme.

On 23.08.2018, RHWEP students of College of Horticulture, V.R.Gudem placed at KVK, Pandirimamidi have conducted PRA exercises like Village mapping, Venn diagram etc., in R.Errampalem village to depict the social conditions, land use pattern and resources available to propose the plan of action. Miss Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Extension), Dr.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi guided the students.

RHWEP students allotted to KVK Pandirimamidi were taken on an exposure visit by Scientists to Central Silk Board at Narasapuram village of mandal on 30.08.2018. Dr.Vijay Kumar, Scientist, Central Silk Board explained the activities like rearing of tussar silk worms, identification and eradication of pebrine diseased eggs through grainage during initial stages, management of yellow fly, temperature regulation for preservation of cocoons, providing healthy DFLs to the farmers. etc. Miss Srividya Rani.N & Sri P. Raja Sekhar scientists of KVK.

AP Educational Tour

Second year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students(90no.s) of CoH, Venkataramannagudem visited Horticultural Research Stations as a part of AP educational tour from 26.08.2018 to 01.09.2018 under the guidance of Dr.K. Umakrishna, Professor (Statistics), Smt. K. Usha Kumari, Asst Prof (Hort.) and Dr.G. Kranthi Rekha, Asst Prof (Hort.).

College of Horticulture, Pravathipuram B.Sc (Hons.) Horti- culture students visited HRS, Kovvur on 25.08.2018, Dr.YSRHU on 28.08.2018 and HRS, Mahanandi on 30.08.2018 as a part of educational tour.

Sports Day Sports day was organized at SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram under the leadership of Sri M. Satti Raju, Principal on 29.08.2018.

“National sports day 2018” was conducted at College of Horticul- ture, Venkataramannagudem on 29.08.2018 to elucidate the importance of games and sports in student life. All the students and staff have participated in the programme.

Placement Cell Campus selections for the post of Horticulture Supervisor was held by Sri.A.Sreenivasulu, Director, Landscape & Environment, APCRDA at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta on 18.08.2018. Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. M. Rama Krishna, Associate Dean, Dr. P. Syam Sundar Reddy, Assoc. Prof (Hort.) placement in-charge, College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta coordinated the activity.

Research

Goniozus nephantidis was observed to parasitize coconut nut borer Tirataba Sp. effectively under laboratory conditions and effective egg laying and life cycle comple- tion in 65-70 days of parasitoid was recorded on this minor pest under laboratory conditions.

Extension Vocational Training Programmes

On 25.08.2018, vocational training on ‘Vermicompost production’ and ’Cashew Processing Unit’ was conducted for RHWEP students by KVK, Pandirimamidi as a part of this training at Gokavaram mandal. Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC) and Miss Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Agri. Extn.) have explained the solid waste proc- essing, its detailed working procedure and how they are collecting kitchen waste from houses and farmers being used for vermicom- post production and showed the machinery used for boiling, drying & then cutting of the cashew and separation of cashew kesvel from the meet.

Training Programmes

On 16.08.18, Exposure visit cum training program was conducted by Dept. of Horticulture to MPEOs and farmers of Rajanagaram mandal on ‘Cashew grafting technique’ at KVK, Pandirimamidi. Scientists enlightened the KVK activities, nursery raising and importance of cashew cultivation as commercial crop in agency area. Horticultural Officer, Rajanagaram, MPEO’S and 30 farmers have participated.

On 23.08.2018, KVK, Vonipenta conducted a training programme on “Pest and disease management in Onion” to the farmers of Madirepalli village of Mydukur mandal. G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path) explained the cultivation practices, weed management and important pests and diseases and their management to the farmers.

Dr. B.V.K. Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head and Dr. K. Mamatha Senior scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended a cluster level training programme organized by APMIP at HRS Kovvur and educated the farmers on advantages of drip irrigation and fertigation. A demonstration on fertigation was also given by APMIP to the farmers.

On 18.08.2018, Sri G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta has attended as resource person in a farmers training programme on “Importance of micro irrigation, fertigation and its maintenance” organized by APMIP, Kadapa at Vonipenta village of Mydukur mandal. The scientist explained the importance of fertigation for increasing the efficient utilization of water and fertilizer, methods of fertigation and also fertigation schedules to be followed in different horticul- tural crops.

On 24.08.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted training program on ‘Beekeeping’ to RHWEP students. Dr. S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and Sri Vidya Rani.N Scientist (Agri. Extn.) explained and demonstrated various types of bees, seasonal activities to be carried out, yield, economics and bee pasturage to the students.

Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram attended a training programme as resource person on “Management of insect pests and diseases in paddy and groundnut ” conducted by ATMA, Dept. of Agriculture on 28.08.2018 at Ucchuru village of Sullurupeta mandal.

Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.) HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended farmers training programme as resource person on “Packages of practices in vegetables including IPM” at Dondagarla and Jaggan- napeta, Tadepalligudem mandal, West Godavari on 23rd and 25th August, 2018.

Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi participated in a training programme on “Cultivation aspects in Turmeric, Banana and Papaya” organized by Dept. of Horticulture, Kurnool on 16.08.2018 at Chagalamarri village in Kurnool (Dt.).

Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi attended a training programme on “Mirapa sagulo yajamanya paddatulu” as resource person organized by Dept. of Horticulture, Kurnool on 17.08.2018 at Pandurangapuram village in Kurnool (Dt.).

Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended a training programme on “Management of diseases in cultivation of Sweet orange” organized by RHTI, Anan- thapur on 24.08.2018 and 25.08.2018 at Anantapuramu.

Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Principal Scientist & Head, HRS, Anantapuramu attended a training programme as resource person on ‘Cultivation of Flowers’ at Regional Horticulture Training Institute, Anantapuramu on 30.08.2018.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta attended a training programme as resource person on ‘Mango’ conducted by Dept. of Horticulture at Bangarupalem mandal, Chittoor district on 25.08.2018 and explained about onfarm post harvest cultural practices and measures to be taken to enhance flowering and fruiting in mango for the upcoming year.

Polam Pilustondi

On 17.08.2018, Miss N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended Polam Pilustondi programme organised by Department of Agriculture in Chinageddada village of Rampa- chodavaram mandal. Addressed the farmers regarding the importance of soil testing & soil test based fertilizer application, importance of micro nutrients etc. Conducted method demonstra- tion on application of zinc sulphate @ 20 kg/ acre by mixing with sand. About 30 farmers have attended the programme.

Method Demonstration

On 25.08.2018, Miss Srividya Rani, Scientist (Agri. Extn.) and Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) visited R.Erramapalem village adopted by the RHWEP Students and demonstrated the method of soil sample collection. The students were explained about the importance of soil sampling, testing, practicing of recommended dose of fertilizer application based on Soil Health cards.

Rally on Immunization

On 10.08.18, Smt. R. Suneetha, Research Associate (Home science), KVK, Vonipenta and Anganwadi teachers organized rally on immunization to children to reduce non–communicable and com- municable diseases in children from 0-5 year’s age at Adireddypalli village in Mydukur mandal.

Diagnostic Visits

On 21.08.18, Sri Bhanumurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited bhendi field (Var. A. Anamika) at Irlapalli and Peddhageddada villages of Rampachodavaram mandal. Observed yellow vein mosaic virus and suggested the farmers to remove and destroy the infected plants, followed by spraying with dimethoate @ 2 ml/l or acephate @ 1.5 g/l to control white fly the vector.

On 21.08.2018, P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandiri- mamidi visited lemon grass and palmarosa fields at I.Polavaram village of Rampachodavaram mandal and suggested the farmer to follow timely fertilizer application, addition of organic matter into soil and avoid waterlogged condition for higher yields.

On 23.08.2018 Dr. S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), Sri Vidya Rani.N Scientist (Agri. Extn.) and Sri P.Rajasekhar Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi diagnosed fruit & shoot borer & epilachna beetle infestation in brinjal and thrips infestation, fusarium wilt in chillies. Suggested spraying of prophenophos @ 2ml/l for the control of epilachna beetle and fruit & shoot borer in brinjal, drenching with COC @ 3g/l, application of Trichoderma viride along with FYM in last ploughing and to follow IPM practices for control of sucking pests in Chilli.

On 25.08.2018, Miss Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Agri. Extn.) and Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi observed yellow vein mosaic virus in ridge gourd field, thrips infestation in chillies and leaf spot incidence in leafy vegetables in RHWEP (CoH, VRG, Dr.YSRHU) host farmers’ fields at Rampa Errampalem village, Gokavaram mandal, and suggested suitable control measures.

Dr. L.Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram along with ADA, & Thada and AO, Thada visited paddy field infested with yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) at Kadaluru village of Thada mandal on 28.08.2018 and observed the symptoms of white ear heads and suggested the farmer for immediate spraying of chlor- antraniliprole 20 SC @ 0.4 ml/l.

Dr. M.Kavitha, Officer Incharge and D.Rameez Basha, Research Associ- ate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram conducted field diagnostic visit of acid lime crop at Dakkili mandal villages i.e Kayyuru, Nadimpalli, Mopuru and Thimmavaram on 20.08.2018 and found the crop infested with thrips, green mites, twig blight, micronutrient deficiencies and nema- tode infestation and suggested spraying of fipronil@2 ml/l for thrips and of formula-4 @5gm/l for micronutrient deficiencies. For the controll of green mites, spraying of wettable sulphur @3 gm/l twice at 10 days interval was also suggested.

Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi visited banana, turmeric and jasmine fields in Mahanandi (M) on 09.08.2018 and observed sigatoka leaf spot in banana, leaf eating caterpillar in turmeric, bud warm in jasmine and suggested suitable control measures.

On 23.08.2018, Sri G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta has visited turmeric and onion fields at Madirepalli village of Mydukur mandal and observed nutrional deficiency in turmeric. Explained about fertilizer management and importance of micro nutrients in enhancing the crop yield.

On 30.08.2018, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (Soil Science), KVK, Vonipenta visited cotton fields at Tanguturu village in Rajupalem mandal. Indentified leaf miner infestation in cotton and recommended to spray imidacloprid @ 1 ml/l of water for control.

On 31.08.2018, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (Soil Science), and Dr. V. Yugandhar Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta visited turmeric field at T. Kothapalli in Mydukur mandal. Indentified the zinc and iron deficiency in turmeric and recommended.

On 21.08.18, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (Soil Science) and Smt.R.Suneetha, Research Associate (Home science), KVK, Vonipenta conducted a follow up visit in banana field for demonstration of waste decomposer application at Adireddypalli village in Mydukur mandal. The scientists demonstrated the application of diluted decomposer on leaf residue for hastening the decomposition proc- ess.

On 17.8.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta visited paddy nursery in T.Kothapalli village and monitored the appli- cation of carbofuran 3G @160g per 1cent nursery 1 week prior to transplanting and also suggested to follow the clipping of leaf tips and formation of alley ways in East-West direction to minimize the pest problem in Paddy.

Dr.B.V.K.Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur, Dr.S.Ramamohan, DDH & PD APMIP, Shri. Ch.Sreenivasulu, ADH-1, and Shri Amarnath, HO, Ainavilli surveyed flood inundated horticultural crops located in Ainavil- lilanka&Madupalli villages in Ainavillimandal, Koonalanka, Lanka of Thane lanka in Mummidivarammandal, Nagullanka, Gannavaramlanka in P.Gannavaram mandals of East Godavari district on 28.08.2018.

Babita, HO, Kothapeta surveyed the inundated fields located in Kedaralanka, Tatapudi, Narayanalanka and Veedhivarilanka villages in Kapileswarapuram mandal and Gopalapuram village in mandal of East Godavari district on 28.08.2018.

On-Farm Trials S.M.Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram, bought marigold cuttings of Arka Bangara-2 from Indian Institute of Horti- culture Research, Bengaluru and distributed them to Mannegunta and Vallivedu village farmers of mandal, as a part of OFT on 27th August 2018. Farmers were suggested to pinch the buds at one month after planning for more branching and yield.

General

Meetings

Sri.P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended National Workshop on Millets organised by Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR), Hyderabad and disused the guidelines to implement CFLDs and Rabi action plan for 2018-19.

Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended the awareness programme to Nurserymen on ‘Maintenance of nurseries and production of quality seedlings’ conducted by Department of Horticulture on 18.08.2018 at Nandigama (M), Krishna District.

On 28.08.2018, D.Rameez basha, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram attended a meeting as resource person organized by Department of Agriculture at Vallivedu village of Venkatagiri mandal and explained about cultivation of palmrosa. In this meeting ATMA PD, Madhavi latha APD, ADA, H.O and A.O have also participated.

HRD trainings Smt. B.Neeraja, Scientist (Path.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended a training programme on ‘Introduction to basic techniques in nematology and identification of nematodes’ organized by the AICRP (Nematodes) at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi from 20th-25th August, 2018 for identification of the nematode problems in .

Shri. Gourishankar, Technical Assistant, HRS, Kovvur participated in a training on ‘Nematode identification at Project Coordinator cell, AICRP on Nematodes, IARI, New Delhi from 20th to 25th August.2018.

Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Professor (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem participated in 48th APCC COCOTECH conference and exhibition from 20.08.2018 to 24.08.2018 at Bangkok, Thailand on the theme “ Sustainable coconut development through climate smart agricul- ture, product innovation and advancing technologies”.

Parthenium Awareness Week

Parthenium awareness week was conducted by KVK, Pandirima- midi at KVK Instructional farm and RHWEP villages. KVK Scientists created awareness on illeffects, eradication and importance preparation of compost by using parthenium weed to the farmers and school children.

Inspection

Dr. K Mamatha ,Senior Scientist (Hort.), Dr.R.Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur along with Sri.Mallikharjun, HO, Kadiyam inspected a total of sixteen horticulture nurseries located in Kadiyam and Alamuru mandals on 18.08.2018 20.8.2018 and 21.8.2018 respectively for nursery registration. Evaluated nurseries based on the maintenance of scion blocks, nursery maintenance, infrastructure facilities, labelling and maintenance of records and registers.

Visits Dr. P.Manivel, Director and Project Coordinator, DMAPR, Anand, Gujarat visited AICRP on MAP & Betelvine and HRS, Venkataraman- nagudem on 22.08.2018. Dr.P.Manivel along with Dr. P. Rama Devi, Senior Scientist (PP) & Head and Smt. D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort.) visited lemon grass and gajapippali fields at Janagareddygudem and surrounding areas on 23.08.2018. Visited medicinal plants gardens raised by farmers in Nuzvid, Agiripalli, A.konduru mandals of Krishna district on 27.08.2018 and visited M/s. Manphar Pharmaceuticals at Vijayawada on 28.08.2018.

Eighty farmers from Srikakulam district visited KVK, Venkataraman- nagudem on 27.08.2018 on an exposure visit to Dr.YSRHU campus. Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension) explained about the activities along with demonstration units of KVK. Sri. G.Shaliraju, Scientist (Ento.) briefed about the ICM practices in vegetable crops.

Fifty farmers from Karnataka state visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 29.08.2018 on an expo- sure visit to Dr.YSRHU campus. Dr.K.VenkataSubbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) explained about the latest technologies in horticultural crops. Sri. G.Shaliraju, Scientist (Ento.) briefed about the IPM practices in vegetable crops.

Fifty three agricultural polytechnic students from Sri Chegondi Venkata Hari Rama Jogaiah Educational Society visited HRS, Kovvur on 20.8.2018. Dr R Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort,) explained about various research activities at HRS, Kovvur.
