Unified, Mohaymen, Gormley Are Ones to Watch
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30, 2021 TAKING STOCK: UNIFIED, PA RAIDS THAT YIELDED >SIGNIFICANT CONTRABAND' NOW TERMED AS MOHAYMEN, GORMLEY >NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE' by T.D. Thornton One month after initially stating at a Pennsylvania Horse ARE ONES TO WATCH Racing Commission (PHRC) meeting that May backstretch raids at Parx yielded a "significant amount of contraband" and "items that have no business on the backside," Tom Chuckas, the director of Thoroughbred horse racing for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, gave a Tuesday update that now describes the yield from those searches in markedly less sensationalistic terms. "In the last months, enforcement action was taken both at Penn National and at Parx," Chuckas told commissioners at the June 29 PHRC meeting during his monthly briefing. AThat enforcement action consisted ofYvehicle searches, barn searches, vet trailer searches. In addition, we did out-of-competition testing both at Penn National and at Parx, and the preliminary results from these investigative enforcement actions is very, very minor infractions. Nothing of substance." Goldencents Set to Run Next in Cigar Mile
Goldencents Set to Run Next in Cigar Mile By Steve Haskin, @SteveHaskin BloodHorse.com Photo: Dave Harmon Goldencents won the 2013 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. Goldencents, winner of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I), will make his next start in the $500,000 Cigar Mile (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack Nov. 30, according to majority owner Glenn Sorgenstein. "After the Breeders' Cup we looked at the race and thought (the Cigar mile) might come up little quick, but Doug (trainer O'Neill) and I decided to watch the horse and let him tell us," Sorgenstein said Nov. 7. "He bounced out of the race as if he hadn't run. Each day, his ears were pricked, he was alert and ready to go, and he was looking for his food. He showed no signs of stiffness and has been perfectly sound. "Originally, I had told Doug that the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) makes sense, because we wouldn't have to ship, it was his home track (Santa Anita Park), and we'd be assured of good weather. But then I started thinking, 'What the heck; from the polls we've seen, he's second to Will Take Charge as leading 3-year-old, and sending him to New York would give the East Coast writers an opportunity to see him race. And Aqueduct is a good fast track where speed holds.' "It took while, but we've finally figured out the jockey situation and we feel confident with Rafael (Bejarano). We feel he'll (Goldencents) do great in New York and we owed it to him to get him out there. -

I will then forward the full Kentucky Derby analysis to you by electronic mail. Thank you… _____________________________________________________ SANTA ANITA (THE GREAT RACE PLACE) Friday, May 5, 2017 FOR AMUSEMENT---AND NOT BEMUSEMENT---ONLY!!! (Of course, these are recommendations only, and there are no guarantees in this sport, but that is what generates its mystique. And so, please follow your own heart and mind, considering me as a mere advisor, when making your selections. In any event, I do wish you all the best in your quest to “predict the future,” because it ain’t easy. And remember, horses, just like us, have aches and pains, headaches, suffer fatigue, etc. Try not to get mad at me, I usually have excellent days, occasionally, not-so-excellent days: with all of the informative past performance data we handicappers have in front of us, we have no idea how a particular horse feels at race time. By way of example, maybe that 50/1 colt is in a big hurry because he has a hot fillie waiting for him back at the barn…so please stick with me if there are a few “speed-bumps” along the way.) This analysis is prepared under the reasonable assumption that (i) all turf races will be run on a “firm” turf track, and (ii) all dirt races will be run on a track graded “fast.” Should different conditions exist at post time for a given race, please temper these selections with your own best judgment in light of less-than ideal conditions.
