INSTAGRAND

A $1,2,000,000 two-year-old in training purchase, Instagrand was a debut winner by 10 lengths going five furlongs in 56:00, and followed up with 10¼ lengths victory in the Best Pal Stakes (G2), demonstrating himself to be one of the most spectacular juvenile colts to represent the sensational Leading Sire, and twice Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds, Into Mischief.

Into Mischief has sired the brilliant Goldencents out of a mare by Banker’s Gold, and four stakes winners, including multiple grade one winner Practical Joke, out of mares by Distorted Humor (sire of Flower Alley, Sharp Humor, Drosselmeyer, Maclean’s Music and Jimmy Creed). Banker’s Gold and Distorted Humor are both sons of Forty Niner, a stallion who could also be introduced through mares by Coronado’s Quest, Editor’s Note, End Sweep, Jules, Luhuk, Gold Fever, Roar (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief stakes winner), Trippi (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief graded winner) and Twining.

The Into Mischief cross with mares from the Gone West branch of Mr. Prospector has also been a very successful one. Grade one winner Mia Mischief and graded winners Engage and Mischievous Alex are out of mares by Speightstown (sire of Munnings); daughters of Mr. Greeley have supplied grade one winner Authentic and stakes winner More Mischief; from a mare by Grand Slam, Into Mischief sired graded winner Strict Compliance, and he has graded winner Somebeyay out of a mare by Grand Slam son, Limehouse. There are also Into Mischief stakes winners out of mares by Gone West sons Elusive Quality (sire of Quality Road) and Proud Citizen.

Into Mischief has crossed well with mares from the Fappiano line particularly through Unbridled, who appears as broodmare sire of his brilliant daughter Covfefe. There are three stakes winners out of mares by Unbridled’s Song, as well graded winner Maximus Mischief out of a mare by his son, Songandapyaer, and a stakes winner out of a mare by his three- quarters brother, Malabar Gold. There is also a stakes winner out of a mare by Empire Maker (sire of Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister). A son of Into Mischief has a stakes winner out of a mare by Broken Vow, and Grindstone and his son Birdstone are also worth considering. Out of a mare from the Cryptoclearance branch of Fappiano Into Mischief has graded stakes winner Conquest Enforcer out of a mare by Victory Gallop, and twp stakes winners out of mares by Candy Ride (sire of Twirling Candy).

Into Mischief has graded winner Golden Mischief out of a mare by Mr. Prospector son, Carson City, and graded winner Gas Station Sushi out of a mare by Carson City son Five Star Day, which also suggests daughters of City Zip, Pollard’s Vision or Cuvee. Into Mischief has

sired stakes winners out of daughters of Mutakddim and Bob and John (both by Seeking the Gold, also sire of Petionville and Cape Town), and graded stakes winner Miss Mischief out of a mare by Lemon Drop Kid (by Kingmambo). Overall, almost any strain of Mr. Prospector might prove positive here, but we can note that Into Mischief also has a graded winner out of a mare by Line in the Sand, and stakes winners out of mares by Thunder Gulch and Pulling Punches (by Two Punch, also sire of Smoke Glacken).

Looking at the Northern Dancer line, Instagrand is out of a mare by a grandson of Danzig, and since this strain has done well under Into Mischief, it could well pay to cross This includes graded winner Can The Man out of a mare by Danzig himself and stakes winners out of mares by Lil’s Lad and Polish Numbers. There are numerous other sources of Danzig that would appeal here, including Belong to Me (who looks particularly interesting), Hard Spun, War Front and Exchange Rate.

Into Mischief’s graded stakes winner Vyjack is out of a mare by Stravinsky, a son of the Northern Dancer horse, Nureyev. Other sources of Nureyev include Fasliyev, Spinning World, Theatrical and Atticus. He is also emerging as an option for the Medaglia d’Oro branch of Sadler’s Wells – a three-quarters brother to Nureyev – with a stakes winner out of a mare by Medaglia d’Oro (by El Prado) and another out of a mare by that horse’s son, Warrior’s Reward. This would suggest trying mares by other El Prado sons, Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. From another branch of Northern Dancer, Into Mischief graded scorer Go Google Yourself out of a mare by Deputy Minster, and another stakes winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Mr. Purple. It is also possible to introduce Deputy Minster through Silver Deputy, Awesome Again, Touch Gold, Deputy Commander, Salt Lake, Dehere, French Deputy, Forest Camp, Ghostzapper, Posse and Badge of Silver.

Into Mischief’s talented son, Vicar’s In Trouble, is one of two stakes winners out of a mare by Vicar, a son of Wild Again, and from the line of Into Mischief’s sire, Harlan’s Holiday, there are stakes winners out of mares by Wild Again himself as well as Milwaukee Brew and Wild Rush. This strain could also be brought in through Offlee Wild and Whiskey Wisdom. There is also an Into Mischief stakes winner out of a mare by Mazel Trick, by Phone Trick, from the Clever Trick branch of Wild Again’s sire, Icecapade, a three-quarters relative to Northern Dancer.

Looking at mares from the A.P. Indy line we can note millionaire Owendale out of a mare Bernardini (sire of Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve) and a stakes winner out of a mare by the similarly-bred Tapit (sire of Constitution, Tapizar and Trappe Shot). There are also stakes winners out of mares by Aptitude and Congrats (a brother to Flatter), which additionally suggests daughters of such as Pulpit – the sire of Tapit and also of Sky Mesa –

Into Mischief’s sire, Harlan’s Holiday sired Champion Shanghai Bobby out of a mare by Orientate (by Mt. Livermore, also sire of Housebuster and Peaks and Valleys), who is also broodmare sire of graded winner Wildman Jack by a son of Into Mischief.
