These projects promise to create many jobs and propel St. Clair County forward in the national spotlight. Jeff Katofsky and Rick Barreca deserve credit for their vision and courage. Together, these California investors are restoring the St. Clair Inn and Harrington Inn, constructing a new mixed-use building and preparing to rehabilitate the St. Clair Middle School, a combined $50 million investment. The single largest and most impactful project of 2018 is DTE’s new power plant in East China Township, slated to begin construction in 2019. This $1 billion gas-fired plant will replace the capacity of the St. Clair Power Plant at its closing in 2023, bringing a cleaner source of energy generation to Michigan. In addition, Enbridge is replacing the pipeline beneath the St. Clair River and building new gas lines to support the power plant. ITC is investing well over $30 million to upgrade substations. Combined, these utility giants are making critical investments in St. Clair County, ensuring that we will remain the leader of energy production in Southeast Michigan. We thank each of them for making 2018 a successful and notable year.
