October 28, 2014 CHAN GAILEY TO HEADLINE 2015 BIRMINGHAM BOWL FCA PRAYER BREAKFAST

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Former Dallas Cowboy and head coach Chan Gailey will be the keynote speaker at the Birmingham Bowl Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Prayer Breakfast presented by Fi Plan Partners. A Gainesville, Georgia native, Gailey also served as the head coach at Troy, Samford and Georgia Tech in addition to many years spent as an assistant coach in the NFL and college football.

The breakfast will be held at the Sheraton Birmingham Ballroom on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. CT. The FCA is celebrating its 60th anniversary of challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. The North Central FCA serves 200 schools, across six counties, touching the lives of more than 110,000 students and 2,300 coaches. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

“We are excited to have Coach Gailey speak at our Birmingham Bowl Breakfast,” said Jack Baker, FCA Area Director. “Coach Gailey has been a friend of the FCA during his very successful coaching career. Student-athletes and coaches from Birmingham area high schools will be invited to attend as we believe that this is a great opportunity for them and for our community to hear his message.”

Gailey attended the where he was a three-year letterman for coach ’s team as a from 1971 to 1973. After graduating from Florida with a bachelor's degree in physical education Gailey took over the head coaching duties at Troy in 1983, where he led the Trojans to a 12– 1 record en route to the 1984 Division II championship.

The ninth annual Birmingham Bowl will match teams from the American Athletic Conference against the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Bowl game will be played Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at noon at historic in Birmingham, Ala., and will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2.
