SMBA CONCERT BANDS

The Bluegrass Brothers are a high-energy bluegrass band and are a must-see show for a traditional blue- grass delight! They have all grown up in bluegrass music families in Virginia, and it is evident very soon after they hit the stage. Their family harmony vocals are exceptional. Brothers Robert on banjo, and Victor Dowdy on bass, have made many musical accom- plishments over numerous years, and their vocals and musicianship are second to none.

Carrying on in the family tradition, Victor's two sons, Donald and Steve Dowdy, are also very talented vo- calists, and their guitar work is very entertaining. All added up, The Bluegrass Brothers are one of the finest Written by: Dick Beckley bluegrass bands in the country, and they are friendly, country folk. They perform from coast to coast and in a most soulful, heartfelt manner. They have earned In March we will be treated to a great new act in Blue- fans from several countries and everybody says: "We grass, Darren Beachley and Legends of the Potomac . want The Bluegrass Brothers back next year!"

As soon as Darren told me he was forming a new band after leaving Doyle Lawson, I called our music committee chairman, Jon Raemore, and insisted that he book them as our first booking for this concert season. I heard them about six or seven times during IBMA week and remain convinced that they will be one of the great new bands in bluegrass, albeit with a veteran cast of “Legends” from the Potomac region and the D.C. area. They have signed with Patuxent Records and should have a new album out by concert time at Spry.

I’ve known Darren and his family since he was a baby and he comes from a musical family. He fronted his own band, The Maryland Line for three years, played with The Travelers , and Bill Harrell and the Virginians and also was lead vocalist for Doyle Lawson and Quicksil- ver for three and a half years, before leaving to form this fine band.

These guys are the real deal and truly are legends in their own right, and I predict a bright future for this band on the national circuit. We are fortunate to have them play for us. This is a "can’t miss" show. Excerpts from the Bluegrass Brothers website

The band consists of Ryan Frankhouser on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Billy Lee Cox on Banjo, Danny Stewart on , and Wally Yoder on Bass.

Remington Ryde released their first professional project in 2007, produced by Green Valley Records in Hughes- ville, Pennsylvania. This album earned them a show- case in 2008 at Cabin Fever in Hampton, Virginia. The popularity of this album helped the group land contracts at some of the top bluegrass festivals in the coun- try. This includes appearances at Bluegrass Festivals in Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Maine, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Tennes- see, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The group contin- ues to expand and grow in popularity.

It is no mystery why this band is becoming so popular so quickly. The band was Written by Jim Hinkle formed in November of 2002 with the sole purpose of promoting bluegrass music throughout the state. They continue to grow in popularity, winning over crowds throughout the country. They have released four full length albums and one single, “I’ll Wait for You,” that July 16-18, 2010 has been played by bluegrass radio stations throughout the country including Sirius Bluegrass. They have suc- th cessfully hosted the 3rd Annual Remington Ryde Blue- 4 Annual grass Festival and announced the date for the 4th festival on July 16-18, 2010 in Reedsville, Pennsylvania. Remington Ryde

Their relentless touring schedule, consisting of over 100 Bluegrass Festival shows per year, has earned them the reputation of one of the busiest bands in all of bluegrass music. The group was featured in the May issue of the Bluegrass Music Held at the Mifflin County Youth Fair Profiles Magazine and also featured in the August issue Grounds, Reedsville, Pennsylvania of the Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine in 2009. They are loved by festival-goers and bluegrass fans from all over the country. The band is exploding into the national See page 12 of this newsletter for more information scene.
