Now it bulged with British Empire troops. In the lobby a crowd in khaki uniforms set up a steady bass hum in the variety of tongues of an international army. The uniforms were of the same drab wool but the shoulder patches told a story of the gathering of Aussies and Britons and New Zea-landers and Arabs and Cyprians and Palestinians. From the bar, which stood to the right of the lobby, there came a continuous tinkle of glasses intermittently punctuated by the clang and sliding drawer of the cash register. Over in the corner by the window, a lone civilian sat slumped in an overstuffed chair, oblivious of the hustle and bustle about him. His feet were propped on the window sill, his hat was shoved down over his eyes and an unlit pipe hung upside down from his teeth. He wore an expensive but unpressed tweed suit which looked quite in place, and his heavy wool tie was loosened at the throat. He was neither awake nor asleep—aware nor unaware—he was a study in boredom. Perhaps, if you moved in literary circles or were just an avid reader of minor novels, you would recognize him on sight. -

DESERTMED A project about the deserted islands of the Mediterranean The islands, and all the more so the deserted island, is an extremely poor or weak notion from the point of view of geography. This is to it’s credit. The range of islands has no objective unity, and deserted islands have even less. The deserted island may indeed have extremely poor soil. Deserted, the is- land may be a desert, but not necessarily. The real desert is uninhabited only insofar as it presents no conditions that by rights would make life possible, weather vegetable, animal, or human. On the contrary, the lack of inhabitants on the deserted island is a pure fact due to the circumstance, in other words, the island’s surroundings. The island is what the sea surrounds. What is de- serted is the ocean around it. Juni 1999 Von der Bundesversammlung genehmigt am 8. Oktober 19991 Schweizerische Ratifikationsurkunde hinterlegt am 16. Oktober 2000 In Kraft getreten am 1. Juni 2002 (Stand am 1. Januar 2009) Die Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft, im Folgenden «Schweiz» genannt, und die Europäische Gemeinschaft, im Folgenden «Gemeinschaft» genannt, im Folgenden «Parteien» genannt, entschlossen, gemäss den Bestimmungen über die Einrichtung von Freihandelszonen im Übereinkommen zur Errichtung der Welthandelsorganisation schrittweise die Hemmnisse für den wesentlichen Teil ihres Handels abzubauen, in der Erwägung, dass sich die Parteien in Artikel 15 des Freihandelsabkommens vom 22. Juli 19722 bereit erklärt haben, unter Beachtung ihrer Agrarpolitiken die harmonische Entwicklung des Handels mit landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugnissen, auf die jenes Abkommen keine Anwendung findet, zu fördern, sind wie folgt übereingekommen: Art. 1 Ziel 1. Dieses Abkommen hat zum Ziel, die Freihandelsbeziehungen zwischen den Parteien durch Verbesserung des Marktzugangs für landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse der jeweils anderen Partei zu stärken. 2. Als «landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse» gelten die Erzeugnisse der Kapitel 1–24 des Internationalen Übereinkommens über das Harmonisierte System zur Bezeich- nung und Codierung der Waren3. Für die Anwendung der Anhänge 1–3 dieses Abkommens gelten die Erzeugnisse des Kapitels 3 und der Positionen 16.04 und 16.05 des Harmonisierten Systems sowie die Erzeugnisse der KN-Codes 05119110, 05119190, 19022010 und 23012000 nicht als landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse. Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service May 23, 2019 Risk Assessment report Concerning overlaps with TR20022A, TR20022B, TR200021 and TR200031 The following technical risk assessment report refers to the four Turkish ENC cells of scale band 2 (General) TR20022A, TR20022B, TR200021 and TR200031. 1. Geographical location of the overlap Overlapping areas are not considered being only deep water areas, but also comprise a variety of islands and continental areas, including approaches to Ports/Harbours. 2. The shipping density in the area, Shipping route patterns Regarding shipping route patterns, the 4 ENCs in discussion occupy areas of great navigational importance for international and domestic shipping as: • Kafireas Strait (Evvoia I. – Andros I.), • Kasos Strait (Kriti I. – Kasos I.) and Karpathos Strait (Kasos I. – Rodos I.), • Kyklades Islands. The above areas are main navigational routes not only for Greek waters and harbours but for Canakkale (Dardanelles) Strait and the Black Sea. 3. Size of the overlapping data Regarding to the size of overlapping area, it covers the majority of the Aegean Sea area. To be more specific please see the next table where percentages of the overlaps are presented. Collapse at the end of the Late Bronze Age in the Aegean Introduction In the Aegean, Mycenaean cultural influence spread progressively from the LH I period onwards. The nature of the relationship between the Greek mainland palatial centres and the Aegean islands have been variously discussed. The conditions during the LH IIIB period, the fall of the mainland palaces and the character of the culture in the LH IIIC phase will provide a picture of the form this interaction had. The collapse witnessed at the mainland centres (Middleton 2017) will allow an assessment of the cultural influence they had on the Aegean islands. The analysis of this area will focus on the development of local culture and the participation of the islands in the long and short distance maritime exchange networks. The Mycenaean centres in mainland Greece established regular contacts with the Eastern Mediterranean from the LH I period onwards. The exchanges were gradually increased during the course of the LBA and permanent long-distance sea routes were set. -

Nature Park of Sitia Is on the Easternmost Edge of Crete, in the Municipality of Sitia
This publication was designed by the Natural History Museum of Crete for the Municipal- ity of Sitia, due to the implementation of the action 2.3.1 “Development of an Ecotouristic guide” of the project “Geotourism and local development (GEOTOPIA)”, funded 80% by the European Union and by 20% by national funds from Greece and Cyprus, through the Greece-Cyprus 2007 - 2013 cross-border cooperation programme. “GEOTOPIA” refers to the collaboration of two mountainous and insular areas, the Munici- pality of Sitia in Crete and the mountain Troodos in Cyprus, which are characterized by their wealthy natural, geological and cultural environment, by underdevelopment and depopu- lation of the hinterland, and by the depreciation of their landscape, aiming to promote their natural and cultural environment, to develop geotouristic activities and finally, establish a geopark.
