The performance was highlighted by retaining his Men’s Singles crown, after he defeated team-mate in an enthralling, five-game final. Peter Barker completed a second successive English clean sweep of the event’s medals by securing the bronze.

In the Women’s Singles, Laura Massaro won the Silver medal as Nicol David repeated her success of four years ago in Delhi.

Nick and Laura both added a silver to their tally in the Men’s and Women’s Doubles, with Nick partnering Adrian Grant and Laura teaming up with Jenny Duncalf to seal their second consecutive second place in the women’s event. The Bronze medals also went to English partnerships, with James helping Daryl Selby to his first Commonwealth medal in the men’s, while Emma Beddoes and Alison Waters claimed their first Commonwealth medals in the Women’s Doubles.

There was further English joy in the Mixed Doubles, with Peter and Alison collecting their second medals of the Games by finishing runners-up.

The whole team, including coaches and support staff, are to be congratulated on both their combined results and how they have represented the sport. I would also like to thank Sport England for their continued funding, which plays an instrumental role in supporting us and our players."
