James Hindley was baptised on 10th April 1808 (MF213/94 at Record Office). He was the sixth of the eleven children of George and Sarah Hindley. BGBGBBBBBGG

Phebe Newall the daughter of John and Martha Newall was baptised at Church on 31st May 1812.

James married Phoebe Newall at on 20th September 1830. (MF87/2 no.103).

They were listed as both of this parish. The signature of James and a cross by Phoebe were witnessed by Peter Hindley and John Whitlow.

By 1841 James was a bricklayer and at a later date he was a cattle dealer.

It is very likely there were no children from the marriage as in father George’s Will of 1849 they were “without issue”.

James and Phoebe are buried together in Lostock Gralam Churchyard, .

1886 James’s Will leaves half shares to brothers Joseph and Peter Hindley, but only after deductions for funeral costs and bequests to Mrs Newall on behalf of Arthur and Clare Newall, Annie Newall, and Thomas Hankey.

The division of James’s Estate is shown on the next page. Mr William Newall was the sole executor.
