Over the last half-century the journal has evolved in tandem with developments and innovations in the CELEBRATING industry, not just reflecting those changes but also helping to promote them 1964-2014 and spearhead their acceptance. Right from the outset Building Services News has been an integral part of Ireland’s building services industry and not just a magazine serving the sector. Publisher and Editor Pat Lehane sits on the executive of most of the industry professional and trade representative bodies and the journal has been instrumental in the establishment of many of these organisations. In addition, Building Services News plays a major role in promoting and facilitating cross-over activity between these bodies, and provides secretariat support and accommodation addresses for many. In marking the occasion our collective vision should, and is, on the future. In perusing the archives spanning 50 years we now realise how lucky we are to be part of such a vibrant, dynamic industry sector. In the early days the role of building services was perhaps under-rated by society in general. Today, that has changed. Rising energy costs, a demand for more comfortable home and working environments, and a genuine sense of social responsibility in respect of the environment has put building services centre stage. What an opportunity – the future for the industry is bright and secure! However, commercial success is only part of the story. The building services sector is also very much about people, and about a work/social interactive balance. We have been lucky to have made many friends down through the years. Sadly, some of them are no longer with us. We dedicate this issue to their memory.     Statement to the Oireachtas Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis in Ireland Ed Mulhall The starting premise for a discussion of RTÉ's editorial policy on the coverage of any area of public interest is that there is no single expression of it. RTÉ's output is based on a set of principles which are derived from its statutory obligations. These principles form the framework for editorial decision making and there is an editorial structure in place to monitor, discuss and challenge the editorial selections being made so as to ensure they are being adhered to. In addition, all RTÉ's activities are subject to a regulatory structure to ensure that the organisation is meeting its public service obligations. Those working in editorial roles in RTÉ operate under a shared understanding of RTÉ’s obligations under various statutes, notably the 1976 Broadcasting Act as amended and the 2009 Broadcasting Act. In RTÉ News, this translates into a very simple premise: inform the audience in the public interest. The political scientist Jean Blondel - in an essay written in honour of the late RTÉ broadcaster Brian Farrell - calls the role to inform the noblest of tasks because it is the most difficult. It requires the reporting of facts, sometimes the establishment of facts, their selection according to their importance and the presentation of them with related material to allow their meaning or significance to be understood. What is important to report in the public interest is a constantly evolving question that is impacted on by events and does not adhere to any fixed state of national consensus.

    Final U.S. Olympic Team Trials spots up for grabs at Last Chance Qualifier in Cedar Falls this weekend The final stage of U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualification is set for this weekend as the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier will be held in conjunction with the Cliff Keen/USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, April 1-3. Over 175 wrestlers will compete between all three international styles for one final spot at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials to be held on April 9-10 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Only the champion in each weight class will qualify to compete in Iowa City. Greco-Roman will compete on Friday, men's freestyle will take the mat on Saturday and women's freestyle will round out the competition on Sunday. This is the last of the #Road2IowaCity U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifying tournaments. Several top national and local names are registered to compete at the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier this weekend. In Greco-Roman, 2006 World champion and former Bellator Bantamweight and Featherweight champion Joe Warren will take his shot at the 59 kg field. Two-time NCAA Div. II champions for Nebraska- Kearney, Daniel Deshazer and and Romero Cotton, will try their hands at Greco-Roman in Cedar Falls. Past Junior Nationals champions Taylor LaMont and Hayden Tuma are among the younger entrants in the Greco- Roman field. To date, little is known about the clearance effects of oscillating devices on patients with acute respiratory failure undergoing iMV. This study aimed to assess (1) the effects of high-frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) on lung aeration and ventilation distribution, as assessed by electrical impedance tomography (EIT), and (2) the effect of the association of HFCWO with recruitment manoeuvres (RM). Methods: Sixty critically ill patients, 30 classified as normosecretive and 30 as hypersecretive, who received ≥ 48 h of iMV, underwent HFCWO; patients from both subgroups were randomized to receive RM or not, according to two separated randomization sequences. We therefore obtained four arms of 15 patients each. After baseline record (T0), HFCWO was applied for 10 min. At the end of the treatment (T1) or after 1 (T2) and 3 h (T3), EIT data were recorded. At the beginning of each step, closed tracheobronchial suctioning was performed. In the RM subgroup, tracheobronchial suctioning was followed by application of 30 cmH2O to the patient’s airway for 30 s. At each step, we assessed the change in end-expiratory lung impedance (ΔEELI) and in tidal impedance variation (ΔTIV), and the center of gravity (COG) through EIT.

Il nutriente si ritrova, infatti, in glutatione (GSH), fitochelatine (PC), nei clusters ferro-zolfo, in vitamine e cofattori (biotina, tiamina, CoA, S-adenosil-Met) e in una varietà di composti secondari (glucosinolati, allil Cys, solfossidi). Lo zolfo è coinvolto anche nelle modificazioni secondarie di composti quali flavonoidi, steroidi, polisaccaridi e lipidi (Saito 2000; Leustek 2002; Maruyama-Nakashita et al. 2003; Saito 2004). Tali molecole sono coinvolte in una moltitudine di processi biochimici e fisiologici, inclusi la regolazione di attività enzimatiche, cicli redox e la detossificazione di metalli pesanti e xenobiotici (Noctor et al . 1998; Leustek et al . 2000; Rausch e Wachter 2005). In generale lo zolfo non ricopre specifici ruoli strutturali nei sistemi biologici ma piuttosto è responsabile delle proprietà catalitiche e elettrochimiche dei composti che lo contengono.
