Qualitative methods are more effective in the process of explaining the reality of phenomena that occur in the community, especially about concepts such as social status, power, or sigma, and to understand the reasons why people do what they do. Drajat village people's behavior on pilgrimage tradition in Sunan Drajat Bury are as follows: All the villagers Drajat receive pilgrimage tradition in Sunan Drajat tomb. Drajat village communities in harmony, cooperation, mutual cooperation to preserve the tradition of pilgrimage Pilgrimage in Sunan Drajat. Yhang factors affect people's behavior Drajat go round the village as follows: internal factors which consists of religion, education and community motivation; External factors which consist of environment and economy. KEARIFAN LOKAL TAHLILAN-YASINAN DALAM DUA PERSPEKTIF MENURUT MUHAMMADIYAH Khairani Faizah Jurusan Pekerjaan Sosial Program Pascasarjana Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan kalijaga Yogyakarta [email protected] Abstract. Tahlilan or selamatan have been rooted and become a custom in the Javanese society. Beginning of the selamatan or tahlilan is derived from the ceremony of ancestors worship of the Nusantara who are Hindus and Buddhists. Indeed tahlilan-yasinan is a form of local wisdom from the worship ceremony. The ceremony as a form of respect for people who have released a world that is set at a time like the name of tahlilan-yasinan. In the perspective of Muhammadiyah, the innocent tahlilan-yasinan with the premise that human beings have reached the points that will only get the reward for their own practice. In addition, Muhammadiyah people as well as many who do tahlilan-yasinan ritual are received tahlian-yasinan as a form of cultural expression. Therefore, this paper conveys how Muhammadiyah deal with it in two perspectives and this paper is using qualitative method. Both views are based on the interpretation of the journey of the human spirit. The human spirit, writing apart from the body, will return to God. Whether the soul can accept the submissions or not, the fact that know the provisions of a spirit other than Allah swt. All human charity can not save itself from the punishment of hell and can not put it into heaven other than by the grace of Allah swt. Keywords: Tahlilan, Bid’ah, Muhammadiyah Abstrak. This article was conducted in NinhThuan Province, Vietnam in 2017. The subject of the study were the figures of the Champa Muslim community (Bani and Cham Islam), then the worshipers of the two groups above. The object of this research was Hindu effect on Bani Islam.The population in this research were the Bani religious figures and Cham Islam/Sunni whose numbers could not be identified completely because they were spread in various regions. The analysis that the author used in this study was a Qualitative Descriptive analysis. This article concludes thatin Vietnam there are two Islamic groups namely Cham Islam and Early Cham (Cham Bani). The way to worship the Cham Bani group was influenced by Hinduism, which has become a tradition of Vietnamese society before the arrival of Islam. This happened due to the unfinished Islamization process.Cham Bani's way of worship is still going on nowadays, even though there have been purification efforts from various parties to improve the way they worship. -

For a long time it took even centuries, especially when people started to recognize civilization. Clothing became an extension of the social body in their social life. In Javanese culture, self-esteem is in words, while body honor is in clothing. It's just that this phrase is only used by the elite in Surakarta and doesn't apply to ordinary people. At the beginning of the 20th century, along with the rise of the common people to the upper middle class, the struggle for elite status was fought through the wearing of clothes. Using historical methods of analysis and multidimensional approaches, the author attempts to demonstrate the complexity of the struggle of ordinary people to reach the position of the upper middle class by wearing clothes. The sacralization of clothing, long lauded by the elite, began to de-sacralize at the beginning of the 20th century. De- sacralization is symbolized by the elegant and elegant posture of the little Surakarta priyayi. Introduction It has been an interesting stance to discuss the relationship between religion and community in terms of the variety of possibilities of some unique emergences in the process. While people regards religious realms a total guidance that relates the 26 Millah Vol. X, No. 1, Agustus 2010 weakness of human being to the powerful—the Covenant, Javanese people, views religion providing a set of beliefs, symbols and rituals which have been faced a rigorous encounter along with the development of communities in the past, in the present and in the future. The dawn of Islam in Java shared the experience of this relationship, found in why and how the wali used the wayang in supporting their religious types of activities under the authority of the Court of Demak. The research discusses the relationship between the wayang and the role of wali ‘Saint’ in spreading Islam under the patron of the Court of Demak from the fifteenth to the sixteenth centuries. There have been some research conducted on the same field, but this aims at discussing the wayang as the phenomena of cultural heritage of the Javanese descendents and inhabitants, while the wali ‘Saint’ is framed as the element of religious representation in Java at the time. -

International Review of Humanities Studies www.irhs.ui.ac.id, e-ISSN: 2477-6866, p-ISSN: 2527-9416 Vol.4, No.1, April 2019 (Special Issue), pp. 212-224 INTERPRETATION OF IDEOLOGICAL MEANING OF KI AGENG GRIBIG CEMETERY COMPLEX STRUCTURE IN JATINOM, KLATEN, CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA Darmoko Universitas Indonesia [email protected] ABSTRACT The cemetery complex of Ki Ageng Gribig (KAG) in Jatinom, Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia as a cultural resource contains a number of interesting texts for discussion. The text of cultural objects, ceremonial, Javanese idioms, and narrative texts containing the history of KAG have not been thoroughly worked out and presented by researchers to the community as a result of integrated and complex research. The existence of complex texts makes the KAG cemetery special among other cemeterys in Java. The construction of the text of cultural objects is structured in such a way as to follow the idea of the status and role of KAG in the past. KAG is seen as a saint (guardian), descendant of King Brawijaya king of Majapahit (Hindu symbol) and Sunan Giri (Islamic symbol). KAG as a symbolic expression of Java combines the concept of Hindu and Islamic thought. As an Islam, KAG positioned itself on a moderate Javanese Islamic ideology by preserving and perpetuating tradition by protecting itself from the understanding of Arabic Islamic symbolized by Shaykh Ibrahim (successfully defeated in a fight). The concept of moderate Javanese Islamic thought in KAG is expressed on the entire narrative text and cultural objects contained within the cemetery complex. The complex of the cemetery as a meaningful text is sustained by the relation of other text elements within its ideological structure. -

Michael Laffan, History Department, Princeton University* Abstract This paper is a preliminary essay thinking about the concept of an Indonesian Islam. After considering the impact of the ideas of Geertz and Benda in shaping the current contours of what is assumed to fit within this category, and how their notions were built on the principle that the region was far more multivocal in the past than the present, it turns to consider whether, prior to the existance of Indonesia, there was ever such a notion as Jawi Islam and questions what modern Indonesians make of their own Islamic history and its impact on the making of their religious subjectivities. What about Indonesian Islam? Before I begin I would like to present you with three recent statements reflecting either directly or indirectly on assumptions about Indonesian Islam. The first is the response of an Australian academic to the situation in Aceh after the 2004 tsunami, the second and third have been made of late by Indonesian scholars The traditionalist Muslims of Aceh, with their mystical, Sufistic approach to life and faith, are a world away from the fundamentalist Islamists of Saudi Arabia and some other Arab states. The Acehnese have never been particularly open to the bigoted "reformism" of radical Islamist groups linked to Saudi Arabia. … Perhaps it is for this reason that aid for Aceh has been so slow coming from wealthy Arab nations such as Saudi Arabia.1 * This, admittedly in-house, piece presented at the UCLA Colloquium on Islam and Southeast Asia: Local, National and Transnational Studies on May 15, 2006, is very much a tentative first stab in the direction I am taking in my current project on the Making of Indonesian Islam. -

The historical approach was used in this study where the Heuristic activities were carried out to collect the main data. Document analysis of books, papers, journals and other relevant writings and interviews with customary figures were done. The results of the study found that the three ulamas came from Minangkabau and expertise in their respective fields and spread Islam. Datuk ri Bandang, who lived in Gowa had expertised in the field of jurisprudence, taught and propagated Islam by using Islamic sharia as its core teaching.
