    FAMILY TIME AND OWN TIME ON HOLIDAY: GENERATION, GENDER, AND GROUP DYNAMIC PERSPECTIVES FROM NEW ZEALAND By Heike Annette Schänzel A thesis submitted to the Victoria University of Wellington in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Tourism Management Victoria University of Wellington 2010 Abstract This thesis is about the family holiday experiences of the whole family group and its individual members by studying the anticipations before the holiday and the short- and longer-term holiday experiences/recollections after their holiday. This primarily qualitative study links a survey with data triangulation of whole-family interviews. The combination of different methods reflects the holistic and critical research approach within the interpretive research paradigm. It takes a symbolic interactionist perspective which allows a focus on inter-personal relations and forms the basis for a grounded theory methodology (GTM). There is an absence of family tourism research on the experiences of the father, the child, and on group dynamics which has excluded the individual and collective perspectives on the different phases of the holiday. The conceptual framework addresses the gaps identified (as reflected in the research question) by exploring the social experiences and meanings of family holidays over time using gender, generation, and group perspectives. This study is based on a parental survey through schools which was followed by three rounds of whole-family interviews (once before and twice after the holiday) conducted over about one year (2006–2007). The survey with 110 parents provided context and selection of participants for the intensive study of 10 families and their members (20 parents and 20 children).

Way to go. Our next step is our merchandise shop where you can order Alaska Masters swim items on line. Our web master does ask you to send our web address to 2 friends. In doing this we will be spreading the word about our group and promoting swimming to the community. Way to go KEN HICKEY. You are our true famed celebrity this month and really generating the word about our organization. The IBEW sure gave you the credit you deserve in your continually playing commercials! The reason to promote swimming is to KEEP THE POOLS OPEN! Anchorage government has come up with this sad idea that closing 4 of the 6 pools will help their budget while giving all of us and our children very few places to swim and stay out of trouble. My concern is that the government spends so much money for people who are in trouble but cutting all of the programs that keep kids off the streets. Please print the “People for Pools” placard and place it in your car to get the word out. As for new teams, the UAA team is practicing M-F 5:30-7 PM and a newly added Saturday practice from 10-11 AM.

Why you should take a good look at this Prison Poetry Project guide: This book can help anyone interested in leading poetry workshops in a prison setting. There are many men and women in prison who have a lot of poetry in them, who have something to say and these activities will help them develop open and honest self-expression. I call them Creative Writing workshops; it sounds more official. The activities are primarily poetry but you can try your hand at short stories, dialogues, plays, songs and even some improvisational theatre. It might help some of the inmates. It could do wonders for you. Ideas are powerful agents of change. You’ll end up writing more. Here’s hoping this book will help you help them express their experiences and concerns. It has allowed me to freely express myself in ways that I never could have while with the rest of the population. There hasn’t been a time when I didn’t go back to my unit feeling refreshed. This class will open your mind to a new way of thinking, where you can express your creativity and learn more about yourself. This course provides me with an opportunity to hear, discuss, and write about ideas that are not usually verbalized in ‘the quad’, in a safe environment.

The gym is a good holding place for teams and for overflow seating. ● Rochester Rec Center has this. ● Chuck and the Neptune parents would like to use the upcoming MRC meet as a venue to sell advertising on the scoreboard for the purpose of purchasing live streaming equipment such as a video camera, projector, converter box and screen. It will be a good way to make some money and to highlight businesses in town. Businesses can purchase a $25, $50, $100 or $200 package. ● Any family with a participant in the meet can choose to purchase $10 slots as a way to encourage their swimmer. ● Chuck has been talking with NP IT department to ensure that whatever is purchased will work with the current equipment ● This meet will be used to fundraise for this equipment and we will continue to work toward these goals at future meets.
