Political Information: Type of State Parliamentary Republic Type of Government Kiribati has a unicameral House of Assembly with 46 seats: 44 elected by popular vote, one reserved for a nominated representative of the Banaban community, and one for the Attorney- General, who is an ex-officio member. The President, as both head of state and head of Bilateral Product trade government, is elected by popular vote from a slate of 3 or 4 nominees selected by the Canada - Kiribati legislature. The cabinet (appointed by the President), is composed of the President, the Vice- President, the Attorney-General and no more than ten ministers from the House of Assembly.
