RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 15: 20th – 23rd February 2014 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS With the international weekend kicking off on Friday night, the majority of the RaboDirect PRO12 games take place on Sunday, however Cardiff Blues open round 15 with their game against current champions, Leinster at the Arms Park on Thursday evening and if past form is any guide Cardiff will have their work cut out to claim victory in this match. The sole game on Saturday is also in Wales with Edinburgh Rugby visiting Llanelli to play Scarlets, who missed out last round due to the weather in Belfast. The Scots do not travel well, so Scarlets must be hoping to put their own home record back on track in this fixture. The remaining four games take place on Sunday, with a TV double header in Italy, Benetton Treviso hosting Ulster and Zebre facing another Irish province, Connacht. Connacht’s victory over Edinburgh last time out saw them swap places with Zebre at the foot of the table, which could be reversed if Zebre claim this tie. Ulster on the other hand will be hoping they can make up some ground on the teams above them in the Play-Off zone. At the same time the remaining two Welsh regions will be in action in the principality. Newport Gwent Dragons opponents’ Glasgow Warriors, currently sit in 4th place in the table courtesy of one more win than Ulster, and still have two games in hand over the three teams above them. The outstanding game must be the pick of the weekend, leaders Munster travelling to face 3rd placed Ospreys, who claimed a record victory over Treviso in their last game at the Liberty Stadium.

OUR BRAND OUR STORY DRAGONS A dragon is a legendary creature that appears in the folklore of many cultures around the world. Beliefs about dragons vary drastically by region, but since the High Middle Ages, dragons in western cultures have often been depicted as winged, horned, four-legged, and capable of breathing fire. Dragon-like creatures are first described in ancient mythology and appear in ancient Mesopotamian art and literature. In western cultures, dragons are portrayed as monsters to be tamed or overcome, usually by saints or culture heroes, as in the popular legend of Saint George and the Dragon. They are often said to have ravenous appetites and to live in caves, where they hoard treasure. The red dragon has been associated with Wales for centuries, with the origin of the adoption lost in history and myth. The red dragon is popularly believed to have been the battle standard of King Arthur and other ancient Celtic/Romano-British leaders. Owain Glyndwr raised the dragon standard during his revolts against the occupation of Wales by the English crown in 1400. In the Mabinogion the red dragon fights with an invading white dragon, eventually defeating it. The Marcher Lordships were the basic units of administration for the next 450 years, until GWENT Henry VIII passed the Laws in Wales Act 1535. This Act abolished the Marcher Lordships and Gwent was a medieval Welsh kingdom, lying established the County of Monmouthshire, between the Rivers Wye and Usk. It existed combining the Lordships east of the Usk with from the end of Roman rule in Britain in about Newport (Wentloog) and Caerleon to the west the 5th century until the Norman conquest of of it.

RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 12 Rearranged: 26 April 2014 ROUND 20 REVIEWS With just two full rounds left to go in the RaboDirect PRO12 regular season, the remaining rescheduled game takes place on Saturday at Scotstoun, where Glasgow Warriors will be looking to turn their game in hand into points in their march to claim a Play-Off spot. Should they succeed they could break the Irish hold at the top of the table, and lift themselves into contention for a home Play-Off. Following last weekend’s results, Leinster confirmed their place in the Play-Offs for a 5th straight year but they are not quite yet assured top seeding and a home game. The other three Play –Off places are still up for grabs, with four teams, Munster, Ulster, Glasgow and Ospreys, still in contention. Scarlets defeat by Cardiff Blues in the Judgement Day double header at the Millennium Stadium denied them the chance to secure their European Rugby Cup berth next season, but they still have two further local derbies to stake their claim. Zebre’s 4th win of this season’s campaign, their first over Scottish opponents, closed the gap to 4 points with Treviso in the battle for the Italian qualification place.
