WALES V ENGLAND at Millennium Stadium, 16.3.2013 (17:00) WALES v ENGLAND at Millennium Stadium, 16.3.2013 (17:00) Interim head coach Rob Howley makes three changes (one positional) for the visit of England. Fit again Gethin Jenkins returns at loosehead relegating Paul James to the bench. Jenkins leads the team in the absence of the injured Ryan Jones, with the flankers being reshuffled – Sam Warburton switching to 7 from 6 and Justin Tipuric coming in on the openside. The other change on the bench sees Aaron Shingler included for the first time since round two. This means that Howley has made no changes in the complete back division for the entire campaign, whilst Adam Jones, Ian Evans and Toby Faletau have been unchanged in the pack. The XV has 648 test caps between them; the bench has a further 172 caps. The average age of the walk-on team is 26.2 years; the average on the bench is 26. Introduction In this project, I am going to either prove or disprove two hypotheses: • firstly, that the position of a rugby player will make a difference to what they think a great captain is; and • secondly, that for a captain to be great, they do not have to be the best in their position. I will prove or disprove these hypotheses through the following research: • conducting semi-quantitative surveys • reading and analysing 4 great rugby captains’ autobiographies (qualitative research) and their views on leadership and captaincy • and finally wider online research. Rugby is a sport and subject that I am very passionate about, and I aspire to play at the highest level. Currently I play for Hampton U13 Bs and my club (Twickenham) first team. I find captaincy interesting as I think it takes great skill and certain characteristics to be a good captain let alone a country-leading world-famous great captain. My personal experiences of rugby captaincy have been periodically with my school team and regularly for my club. My personal view of rugby captaincy based on my experiences is that you need to be the hardest-working player on the pitch at all times – you may not be the most skilled, but you can be the hardest-working, and respect from your team- mates and from your coaches comes from this work ethic.

This case is concerned with the right of the claimant, the Pontypool Rugby Club, a club with a proud history, to continue to play in the Premier Division of Welsh rugby in the 2012/13 season. The defendant is the Welsh Rugby Union, which organises and controls the sport of rugby union in Wales. It is the view of the WRU that as a result of the re-organisation of the Premier Division to reduce the number of clubs playing in it and Pontypool’s position in order of playing meritocracy of the fourteen clubs formerly in the division, the club is now only eligible to play in the Championship, the next division down. The essence of Pontypool’s case is that clubs which are above it on a basis of playing merit have not met the requirements to hold an A licence as required for the Premiership by the WRU’s National League Rules 2011/2012, and so there is a place for Pontypool within the Premiership.
