PERSPECTIVE Research and Development Concerning Superconducting Maglev and Research on Applying Superconducting Maglev Technology to the Conventional Railway System Ken NAGASHIMA Maglev Systems Technology Division RTRI is advancing the fundamental research and development concerning supercon- ducting maglev. The topics of this issue are characteristics of maglev vehicle dynamics, ex- perimental production and evaluation of REBCO high-temperature superconducting coils. RTRI is also promoting the applied research based on maglev technology to the conventional railway system. The topics of this issue are the LIM-type eddy-current rail brakes and the fly- wheel energy storage system. • Simulation Technology for Railway Vehicle Dynamics
NIPPON STEEL & SUMITOMO METAL TECHNICAL REPORT No. 105 DECEMBER 2013 Technology UDC 629 . 11 . 01 : 681 . 3 Simulation Technology for Railway Vehicle Dynamics Osamu KONDO* Yousuke YAMAZAKI Abstract Railway vehicles must have high kinematic performance, which is evaluated in terms of running stability, curve negotiating ability, and ride quality, and to improve this perfor- mance, it is essential to adequately design the characteristics of the spring systems of bogies. In addition to tests on real vehicles, computer simulation is effective at enhancing the ve- hicle performance by adequately evaluating the characteristics of spring systems in the de- sign stage. First, this study presents the characteristics of computer simulation for railway applications and related evaluation technologies, and then, as examples of simulation tech- nology of the company, evaluation of the kinematic performance of the bogies for the lin- ear-motor metro transport system, and estimation of the bending stress on wheel axles for vehicles for conventional lines. 1.
