Brown, Ph.D. Department of Education, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists ·t. 6840 Eastern Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20012 i/ .I Foreword In anticipation of the education centennial in 1972 and the publication of a Seventh-day Adventist chronology of education, the General Conference Department of Education started to make inquiries of the world field for historical facts and statistics regarding the various facets of the church program in education. The information started to come in about a year ago. Whlle some of the responses were quite detalled, there were others that were rather general and indefinite. There were gaps and omissions and in several instances conflicting statements on certain events. In view of the limited time and the apparent cessation of incoming materials from the field, a small committee was named with Doctor Walton J. Brown as chairman. It was this committee's responsibility to execute the project in spite of the lack of substantiation of certain information. We believe that this is the first project of its kind in the denomination's history. It is hoped that when the various educators and administrators re­ view the data about their own organizations, they will notify the Department of Education concerning any corrections and additions. They should please include supporting evidence from as many sources as possible. It is hoped that within the next five to ten years a revised edition may replace this first one. It would contain not only necessary changes, but also would be brought up to date.

N ONE of the remote municipalities on the east coast of Davao, where there was considerable op- position to our work, four literature evangelists were driven out because they had not secured a permit from the mayor. They left with heavy hearts, aware of the dangers that beset their journey to a distant village. With night approaching, they kept their courage and pleaded for God's care and protection. When at last they entered the village, it was already dark. People were suspicious of them. After asking for information, the group went directly to the barrio cap- tain. Learning that they had come to sell books, he be- came prejudiced toward them. The leader of the group, Brother Maunes, pleaded for shelter in the house of the captain that evening, but he refused. Where would they go? Once more they pleaded with the captain and told him they were willing to sleep beneath his house. Finally he took them to an abandoned house where they were told they might rest until morning. Did God= forsake them? By no means, He sent an angel to minister to them. They spent the night in earnest prayer, and as a result of their midnight prayer service the mighty arm of Providence sent help. Early in the morning the four colporteurs approached the head teacher of the village school, who entertained them cordially.     IAMA Online Notes Spring 2015/ music vacancies summary IAMA Online Notes Spring 2015 President's Message The IAMA Online Notes continues to be a wonderful vehicle for us musicians to keep informed about what is happening musically in our denomination. Once again Dan Shultz has pulled together a very informative newsletter that keeps us from feeling isolated in our own limited spheres of influence. Harold Lickey, who died earlier this week, came to Walla Walla University my senior year there. It was with sadness that I learned of his passing a few days ago after several years of illness. My sympathies go out to his family and friends. It was a surprise to hear that Mount Vernon Academy is being closed at the end of this school year. It was one of the main feeder schools to what is now Washington Adventist University when I was teaching there in the 1960s. Congratulations to Linda Neel upon her retirement from Portland Adventist Academy. She was completing her master’s degree in music at Pacific Union College during my first year of teaching here. She has become a legend in the Portland area, and we are proud of her as one of our PUC alumni. It was great to see that Marvin Robertson is still so active in music at age 80. I really miss getting to see him and the other SDA music department chairs from across the nation at the National Association of Schools of Music annual meetings. It would be fun to get together this November in St. Louis again.

In many cases it includes the first bulletins issued by the schools. The bulk of the collection is from North American schools, though some overseas schools are included. The completeness of the coverage of the overseas schools is not usually very strong compared to the North American schools. A typical school bulletin includes a history, a description, and philosophy of the school, financial information, a description of the curriculum, a roster of the faculty, and in some cases a listing of former students. The collection includes some informational booklets as well as student handbooks, promotional material, a few pictorial annuals, and other similar publications. For each school, a copy of the article pertaining to the school from the Seventh- day Adventist Encyclopedia (1976 edition), if any, was filmed before the first bulletin. Arrangement This microfilm collection begins with the bulletin of the earliest available year for each institution and concludes generally with the 1984/1985 school year, or the last year of operation for the institution if it is defunct. While this collection is quite complete, gaps do occur. No effort was made to fill these gaps because of time and cost considerations.

  • 1.159 Million Awarded to Adventist Schools
    $1.159 MILLION AWARDED TO ADVENTIST SCHOOLS On March 8, 2019, the Versacare Foundation awarded $1,159,000 in grant funding to Adventist Education, including $920,000 to 118 primary and secondary schools across the United States and Canada in support of STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The STEM grant program is open to every NAD conference or church sponsored primary or secondary school and provides funding in three categories: • $5,000 for smaller schools of 3 classrooms or less; • $10,000 for larger schools of 4 or more classrooms and 12-year schools; • $10,000 for senior academies. Among the many uses of STEM funds are the purchase of classroom smart boards, providing tablets or Chromebooks for student use, equipping or updating student computer labs, installation of 3D printers and related software, initiating or funding robotics programs, instruction in software coding, and the equipping of chemistry, physics and biology labs, and more. This is Versacare’s fourth successive year funding STEM grants. To date, Versacare has provided 228 schools with a total of $1,825,000.
