The World Bank Group Consultant Washington, D.C. May–November 2013  Supervise field activities and data documentation, including assessing the quality and analyzing household and other micro level data, sampling frameworks and power calculation estimations, data management and analysis, and design of questionnaires.  Facilitate and manage workshops on data collection and evaluation methods for Fragile and Conflict settings, including outreach to expert participants, agenda design, and facilitation.

Consultant Aceh, Indonesia May–June 2012 • Econometric analysis on violent conflict propensity for National Violence Monitoring System (NVMS) project, a subnational dataset of violent incidents across nine provinces in Indonesia from 1998-2012, compiled from thirty-four regional and local newspapers using STATA software. • Consulted national government agency for disadvantaged areas on service delivery model to post-conflict areas based on quantitative and qualitative analysis on violent conflict propensity.

Department of Political Science, Yale University New Haven, CT Research Assistant, Changing Patterns of Warfare September 2012-January 2013  Identified, collected, and coded micro-level battlefield data for and using first-person accounts, newspapers, secondary literature, and expert interviews as part a dataset on the battlefield practices of states involved in wars since 1800.

Al Jazeera Yangon, Myanmar Freelance May 2012-June 2012  Conducted 34 semi-structured interviews with rebel leaders and internally displaced persons in Kachin and Shan States.  Articles on ethnic insurgencies and political reform appearing in Al Jazeera English “In Depth” section and Oxford University’s Oxford Monitor of Forced Migration.

The Fulbright Program Sumatra, Indonesia US Student Fulbright Grant August 2010-June 2011 • Qualitative research on the impact of international aid on violent conflict through semi- structured interviews and participant observation. • Research methods included semi-structure interviews with former combatants and participant observation.

Palestinian Center for Human Rights Gaza City, Gaza Information Officer, Reporting Unit June 2010-August 2010  Led reporting field teams in the to conduct formal interviews with targets of human rights abuses and violent attacks.  Responsible for final edit of weekly report on human rights abuses in the Gaza Strip. Relief International Gaza City, Gaza Program Development Coordinator January 2010-May 2010  Designed and drafted project proposals for emergency relief services in the Gaza Strip targeting food security, women’s economic rights, and generating income for farmers.

FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE AND RESEARCH SKILLS

My fieldwork and research experience includes a variety of multi-method approaches:

 Used village-level national survey data from Indonesian Government (PODES) and data on violent conflict episodes from National Violence Monitoring System to determine factors associated with conflict propensity in nine Indonesian provinces.  Carried out ethnographic fieldwork with rebel groups in Myanmar border areas, including interviews with rebel leaders and local militia commanders.  Conducted over a hundred semi-structured interviews, primarily in Northern Sumatra and Aceh, with Islamic activists and former GAM and militia fighters.  Conducted twenty-five semi-structured interviews with Romanian immigrants in Rome, Italy, as part of senior undergraduate thesis for History major.  Archival research for Changing Patterns of Warfare dataset on historical inner and inter- state conflicts using primary sources in Indonesian and Arabic.

Technical skills include proficiency in STATA, ArcGIS, and MATLAB. LANGUAGES

English: Native

Bahasa Indonesia: Professional Working Proficiency Studying in “Advanced Indonesian Reading” at Yale. One year extracurricular tutoring with Indonesian instructor at Bates College, lived in Indonesia for ten months in 2010 and six weeks in 2012.

Arabic: Strong reading skills, limited working proficiency in conversation (Shaami dialect) Received tutoring while living in Gaza Strip for eight months. Studied Modern Standard Arabic at Yale for one year.

Burmese: Strong reading skills and limited working proficiency in conversation Private tutoring with instructor from Foreign Service Institute for eight months.

Latin: Strong reading skills Four years of high school study, including AP Latin IV and Honors Latin III.
