  • Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.).

The Engesa EE-T1 Osorio was a surprising development for Brazil – a tank that, while not in the class of the latest tanks of the time, one that was far above the league of the typical third-world offerings. In design, it was similar to many tanks of the time; this was not surprising, since Engesa had a lot of help from West German, British and French armor experts. The EE-T1 was very promising – an excellent design that several countries were very interested in. The Saudis in particular went as far as to place a pre- order of 318 for the Osorio. That deal, however, was essentially killed when the Saudis saw the incredible performance of the M-1 Abrams and the British Challenger, and they literally cancelled the Osorio order at the last moment. This resulted in the cancellation of demonstrations to other countries, the demise of Engesa, and with it a promising medium tank.

  • Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Price List
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Price List Introduction to Universal Price List System Purpose This system was started in 1982 with the intention of providing a comprehensive pricing and encumbrance system for all the medieval fantasy games systems currently in use in the club where I used to role-play. It has been used, and still is being used, by a number of GMs for various games systems including Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, DragonQuest, HârnMaster, RoleMaster and RuneQuest. In fact the system became a club standard, which eased moving characters between various games. The intention of this system is to replace the monetary system and the (often woefully incomplete) price lists provided with the games system. However, it is assumed that one penny is equal to the basic unit of currency in the game system when it is required to translate prices from the host game to this system. For instance, one AD&D silver piece is equivalent to 1d in this system. Prices are quoted in pennies which is the basic silver coin, where 1d is one penny. Since I use a system of twelve pennies equalling one schilling, a lot of the more expensive items are quote in multiples of 3d. My fatigue / encumbrance systems work on weight of the item. Weight of most items likely to be carried are quoted in pounds (lb.) to the nearest 1/10th or ¼ of a pound for small items (and occasionally in fractions of an ounce (oz)). The price list is categorised by occupation, which do not necessarily have anything to do with guild structure, nor do they imply that goods are only sold in such specialist shops/workshops.

International Journal of Cultural Heritage Tarık Baykara http://iaras.org/iaras/journals/ijch UNRIVALED TURKISH SWORD WITH A UNIQUE DESIGN: “YATAGHAN” Prof. Dr. Tarık Baykara Dogus University Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department Istanbul-Türkiye [email protected] Abstract: “Yataghan”, a unique and unparalleled sword design with its inverse curved or concave shape blade could be traced through the history back to the kurgan culture of the Central Asian steppes dating to 2000-3000 BCE. Widely used during the Ottoman period in the Anatolian penninsula and in the Balkans, it was a traditional weapon used by janissaries-Ottoman infantry soldiers, levents-Ottoman marines and zeibecks-chivalrous gangs of the Aegean Region. The typical inverse curved shape was found in the Northern Ordos bronze blades of the Hunnic-Turkic heritage and evolution of the form can be traced through the ages into the final destination into the town of Yatagan located in southwest Turkey, greater city of Denizli and the town is still very famous for its blacksmithing. Therefore, the 5000 years old tradition could be followed for yataghans based on archeological excavations in the Northern Ordos Region, the Syberian steppes and the Inner Mongolia. A detailed investigation on the geometrical shapes and forms of both “yataghan” and “kinglu” blades (The Northern Ordos bronze blades) could reveal the evolutionary progress of these swords during the ages. Key Words: Yataghan, swords, yataghan blade, inverse blade, 1. Introduction yataghan sword as “Kulaklı (in Turkish)– Yatagan or Yataghan… “Yataghan” is Eared” (Figure 2). a widely known traditional Turkish sword with a unique and unparalleled design which is one Historically, curved shape swords are typical handed with an edge on concave/incurved blade Turkic invention dated back to years 400-500 and a short hilt without a guard.

CURATOR OF THE TOWER ARMOURIES PREFACE DO not propose, in this work, to consider the history or develop- I ment of defensive armour, for this has been more or less fully discussed in works which deal with the subject from the historical side of the question. I have rather endeavoured to compile a work which will, in some measure, fill up a gap in the subject, by collecting all the records and references, especially in English documents, which relate to the actual making of armour and the regulations which con- trolled the Armourer and his Craft. At the same time it is impossible to discuss this branch of the subject without overlapping in some details the existing works on Arms and Armour, but such repetition has only been included because it bears directly on the making, selling, or wearing of armour. I have intentionally omitted all reference to the sword and other weapons of offence, for this would have unduly increased the size of the present work, and the subject is of such importance that it deserves a full consideration in a separate volume.
