LCVA’s Cabin Film Series Presents: at the Longwood Cabin

The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts’ (LCVA) popular Cabin Film Series returns on Friday, September 6th, with a free screening of the The Tingler at the Longwood Cabin.

The Tingler is a 1959 American Horror film produced and directed by . It is the third of five collaborations between Castle and writer , and stars , , Patricia Cutts, Pamela Lincoln, Philip Coolidge, and .

The film tells the story of a scientist who discovers a parasite in human beings, called a "tingler", which feeds on fear. The creature earned its name by making the spine of its host "tingle" when the host is frightened. In line with other Castle horror films, including Macabre (1958) and (1959), Castle used gimmicks to sell the film. The Tingler remains most well-known for a device called “percepto”, in which theater chairs would vibrate upon onscreen action.

The Cabin Film Series showcases classic and cult horror and suspense films several times a year. Hosted by the LCVA at a one-room cabin in the woods, the event also features campfire- themed refreshments. Prior to the screening, Dr. Chris McGee, Associate Professor in the English and Modern Language Department at Longwood and guest curator of this series, will introduce the film and lead a discussion exploring its themes and context.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably for this screening – the cabin is accessed by a short walk through the woods.
