Do- sljedno tome, ni knjige zapadnja~kih filmologa o povijesti ja- panskoga filma nisu prevedene na japanski jezik. O Richije- voj i Andersonovoj knjizi, dugo vremena (do posljednje Ri- chijeve) jedinom {irem povijesnom pregledu japanskoga fil- ma na engleskom jeziku, profesor Iwamoto ka`e: »Ideja je iznimno vrijedna, ali mnogo je toga propu{teno. No, donosi neke nove poglede s gledi{ta zapadnjaka.«2 ^ini se da je u Ja- panu i dalje klju~ni izvor podataka iscrpna petosve{~ana po- vijest Junichira Tanake, koji je jo{ kao student tijekom 1920- ih godina po~eo prikupljati dokumentaciju i razgovarati s pi- onirima japanskoga filma. Ali postoje i brojna druga istra`i- vanja, poput dvodijelne povijesti uglednoga prijeratnog po- vjesni~ara i kriti~ara Tadashija Iijime, koji je od 1950-ih pre- davao na sveu~ili{tu Waseda kao prvi stalni profesor filma u Japanu, a ~iji je student bio i profesor Iwamoto. Kada je Do- nald Richie prije pedesetak godina, o~aran otkrivenim fil- movima, pisao svoj prvi od mnogih uvoda u japanski film, Yasujiro Ozu na snimanju nije dobro poznavao jezik i nije bio u mogu}nosti vidjeti ve}i broj filmova. S tim se osje}ajem i danas, nakon ne{to vi{e (ne)dostupnih knjiga i filmova, mogu poistovjetiti gotovo svi Zapadu nadahnulo je pedesetak godina zaka{njelo otkri}e koji poku{avaju upoznati, ili makar vidjeti, japanski film japanskoga filma, a u Japanu se ve} u razdoblju nijemoga fil- izvan Japana.

    Das große Thema von Schuld und Sühne und die ewige Suche nach der wahren Identität des Menschen. Die großen Mythen des Wilden Balkan – welches sind ihre Rollen, ihre Metaphern und ihre Propagandawirkung in den Medien. Fragen zur Identität- und Identitätsbildung, die Figur eines homo balcanicus, der ein Stereotyp für einen auferlegten Selbstexotismus in Kultur und Film ist, werden behandelt. Verschiedene Zugänge werden anhand der bedeutendsten filme ihrer Epochen durchleuchtet. Im Zentrum der Analyse steht jedoch der Film Before the Rain des mazedonischen Regisseurs Milcho Manchevski der die zuvor aufgegriffenen Fragen zum Großteil im Film behandelt.     1997 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL The 1997 Sundance Film Festival continued to attract crowds, international attention and an appreciative group of alumni fi lmmakers. Many of the Premiere fi lmmakers were returning directors (Errol Morris, Tom DiCillo, Victor Nunez, Gregg Araki, Kevin Smith), whose earlier, sometimes unknown, work had received a warm reception at Sundance. The Piper-Heidsieck tribute to independent vision went to actor/director Tim Robbins, and a major retrospective of the works of German New-Wave giant Rainer Werner Fassbinder was staged, with many of his original actors fl own in for forums. It was a fi tting tribute to both Fassbinder and the Festival and the ways that American independent cinema was indeed becoming international.     Joe Hisaishi’s musical contributions to Hayao Miyazaki’s Animated Worlds A Division III Project By James Scaramuzzino "1 Hayao Miyazaki, a Japanese film director, producer, writer, and animator, has quickly become known for some of the most iconic animated films of the late twentieth to early twenty first century. His imaginative movies are known for fusing modern elements with traditional Japanese folklore in order to explore questions of change, growth, love, and home. His movies however, would, not be what they are today without the partnership he formed early in his career with Mamoru Fujisawa a music composer who goes by the professional name of Joe Hisaishi. Their partnership formed while Hayao Miyazaki was searching for a composer to score his second animated feature film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). Hi- saishi had an impressive resume having graduated from Kunitachi College of Music, in addition to studying directly under the famous film composer Masaru Sato who is known for the music in Seven Samurai and early Godzilla films. Hisaishi’s second album, titled Information caught the attention of Miyazaki, and Hisaishi was hired to score Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). With its huge success consequently every other prom- inent movie of Miyazaki’s since. (Koizumi, Kyoko. 2010) Hisaishi’s minimalistic yet evocative melodies paired with Miyazaki’s creative im- agery and stories proved to be an incredible partnership and many films of theirs have been critically acclaimed, such as Princess Mononoke (1997), which was the first ani- mated film to win Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards; or Spirited Away (2001), which was the first anime film to win an American Academy Award.
