The Annual Show is always proud to celebrate our membership and never more so than now. As we are finally experiencing some semblance of a return to a “careful normal” we hope the horse show can be a shared experience of happiness and joy with the animals and sport we all love and cherish. This horse show has seen many changes over its 39 years… changes of venue, changes in the schedule, the divisions, the staff but hopefully the feeling of hospitality has remained and our members, competitors, families and friends will look forward to another year of gathering together and celebrating each others accomplishments this summer. This year’s schedule is much the same with our Equitation Finals on Friday and Saturday evenings, the Platinum Performance / USHJA Green Hunter Incentive South Championships on Friday, and the National Derby and Pony Derbies being feature events. We hope you will take time to enjoy our daily hospitality as well as the excellent food trucks and ringside events that are planned as you enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones.

  • Galatea : a Pastoral Romance
Presented to the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO LIBRARY by the ONTARIO LEGISLATIVE LIBRARY 1980 V C V GALA MIGUEL DE CERVANTES SAAYEDRA 1ITERALLY TEANSLATED FROM THE SPANISH BY GORDON W1LLOUGHBY JAMES GYLL, "A TRACTATE OK "THE HISTORY OF AUTHOR OF LANGUAGE," WRAYSBUBT , HORTON, AND COLNBROOK, BUCKS," ETC. LONDON: GEORGE BELL & SONS, YORK ST., COVENT GARDEN. AND NEW YORK. 1892. ^ LONDON : REPRINTED FROM STEREO-PLATES BY WILLIAM CLOWES AND SONS, LIMITED. STAMFORD STREET AND CHARING CROSS. TRANSLATOE'S PEEFACE. IN this translation of the Galatea of Cervantes, the object has been to convey the story in language as closely as pos- sible to the original. The translator fears he may not alway have succeeded in completely rendering the narratives ot the various incidents which characterise this simple pastoral epic, and that also he may have to apologise for somewhat ot roughness in his transfusion of the poetry, which has found its equivalent, where the lines have been long, in blank verse. The other portions of the poetry he has rendered literally, but wherever the two dialects assimilated he has thought it sufficient to furnish only a kind of metrical rhythm. This elegant and simple production, the earliest from the pen of the eminent poet and novelist of Spain, pour- traying young, fresh, and vivid scintillations of genius, has never been translated into any language. We have only its shadow in the French production of Florian, which is based on the Spanish story, and though written in an en- gaging and graceful style, is not that mature and elegant child of the brain of Cervantes which is now for the first time presented to the English reader.

Digitized by tine Internet Arciiive in 2009 witii funding from Lyrasis IVIembers and Sloan Foundation http://www.archive.org/details/generalstudbookc02fair THE GENERAL STUD BOOK VOL. II. : THE deiterol STUD BOOK, CONTAINING PEDIGREES OF RACE HORSES, &C. &-C. From the earliest Accounts to the Year 1831. inclusice. ITS FOUR VOLUMES. VOL. II. Brussels PRINTED FOR MELINE, CANS A.ND C"., EOILEVARD DE WATERLOO, Zi. M DCCC XXXIX. MR V. un:ve PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION. To assist in the detection of spurious and the correction of inaccu- rate pedigrees, is one of the purposes of the present publication, in which respect the first Volume has been of acknowledged utility. The two together, it is hoped, will form a comprehensive and tole- rably correct Register of Pedigrees. It will be observed that some of the Mares which appeared in the last Supplement (whereof this is a republication and continua- tion) stand as they did there, i. e. without any additions to their produce since 1813 or 1814. — It has been ascertained that several of them were about that time sold by public auction, and as all attempts to trace them have failed, the probability is that they have either been converted to some other use, or been sent abroad. If any proof were wanting of the superiority of the English breed of horses over that of every other country, it might be found in the avidity with which they are sought by Foreigners. The exportation of them to Russia, France, Germany, etc. for the last five years has been so considerable, as to render it an object of some importance in a commercial point of view.

MONDAY, MAY 24, 2021 BREEDING & SELLING THE TRAINER LIZ MERRYMAN HAS HIGH HOPES FOR HOMEBRED FILLY by Katie Ritz MILLION-DOLLAR RACEHORSE It=s a rare feat to get to the winner=s circle on one of the THAT DOESN'T EXIST biggest weekends in racing with a horse bred, owned and trained by the same connection, but Elizabeth Merryman did just that when her speedy filly Caravel (Mizzen Mast) gave a gutsy performance at Pimlico to take The Very One S. by a nose on Preakness weekend. Many would consider the juggling act between the foaling barn and the training center to be an impossibility, but Liz Merryman says, for her, it=s the best way to produce a racehorse. AI love working with a horse that has no mystery to what happened before I got them,@ she said. AYou know everything about them, you know why they do what they do and it=s really rewarding. It=s my favorite way to train a horse.@ Did last Friday=s victory mark Caravel as the most successful homebred Merryman has brought up? ADefinitely,@ the Fair Hill-based trainer said.
