Àmbit territorial Catalunya té una superfície de 32.000 km 2, amb una població de 7,5 milions d’habitants i 947 municipis –segons dades de l’any 2012. La RMB té una superfície de 3.236,1 km 2, amb una població de 5.051.502 d’habitants i 164 municipis. La densitat de població de Catalunya és de 237 habitants per km 2, la de la RMB és de 1.558 habitants per km 2 mentre que la ciutat de Barcelona, amb una població de 1.620.943 d’habitants té una densitat de 16.362 habitants per km 2. A.1.1. Marc territorial de la RMB La RMB és una de les deu principals concentracions metropolitanes europees. La seva població representa el 67% de la població total de Catalunya i per aquest motiu, és l’àmbit d’anàlisi del present projecte. El marc territorial d’anàlisi per a la RMB pot organitzar-se en tres grans àmbits, amb diverses densitats de població: Barcelona, amb una densitat de població molt elevada i una gran accessibilitat interna i externa; Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona –AMB-, aglomeració central o primera corona metropolitana; la resta de la RMB o segona corona metropolitana. La divisió territorial administrativa de la RMB està formada per 7 comarques i 164 municipis. Veure Figura A.1. Figura A.1. Comarques que formen la RMB. Aquesta, està envoltada de sis comarques: El Maresme, El Vallès Oriental, El Vallès Occidental, El Baix Llobregat, El Garraf i l’Alt Penedès. Aquesta divisió administrativa és un dels trets destacats de la RMB, amb una important atomització municipal d’una extensió mitja reduïda dels termes municipals. Es detalla la distribució de la RMB a la Taula A.1 i les densitats de població per zona a la Taula A.2. L’Autoritat de Transport Metropolità -ATM- L’Autoritat del Transport Metropolità –ATM- és l’autoritat territorial de la mobilitat de la regió metropolitana de Barcelona. La seva missió és oferir a la ciutadania un sistema de mobilitat accessible, sostenible i segur, a través de la cooperació entre les administracions que hi són consorciades. El Consorci és integrat per la Generalitat de Catalunya -51%- i per les administracions locals - 49%-: Ajuntament de Barcelona, Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona –AMB- i Agrupació de Municipis titulars de serveis de Transport Urbà de la regió metropolitana de Barcelona –AMTU. Cal destacar la presència de representants de l’Administració General de l’Estat en els òrgans de govern de l’ATM en qualitat d’observadors. D’aquesta manera, l’objectiu de l’ATM 1 és articular la cooperació entre les Administracions públiques titulars dels serveis i de les infraestructures del transport públic col·lectiu de l’àrea de Barcelona que en formen part, així com la col·laboració amb aquelles altres que, com l’Administració de l’Estat –AGE-, hi estan compreses financerament o són titulars de serveis

    Review of actions of Smarter Travel Policy Smarter Travel: A Sustainable Transport Future, A New Transport Policy for Ireland 2009–2020 Review of the current implementation status of actions Smarter Travel: A Sustainable Transport Future, A New Transport Policy for Ireland was published in 2009. It set out national transport policy for 2009 to 2020 and contained 49 actions covering 4 themes. In the context of its work in reviewing Sustainable Mobility policy, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has undertaken a review of the implementation status of each of the actions that were put forward in the 2009 document. This information will help inform the public consultation on the Sustainable Mobility policy review. Some actions have been implemented as envisaged. In other cases, implementation has been partial, and may be ongoing, often reflecting the continuing nature of the initial proposal. There are some actions that have not been achieved. This report sets out, in tabular form, the 2019 status of each of the actions contained in the 2009-2020 policy. Each action is categorised using a Red-Amber-Green (RAG) status update to signify its current implementation status: Red: Minimal or no substantive progress; Amber Some substantive progress; and Green: Substantive progress or on-going implementation. Building on their initial success in Dublin, the NTA quickly began expanding service to other regions. Today the Leap Card is accepted in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, and Wexford, and supports more than 130 million journeys a year on bus, light- rail, and train services. More than 2.3 million Leap Cards are now in circulation, and the automatic fare collection (AFC) scheme generates more than 240 million Euros in revenue through ticket and top-up sales each year.     PAC32-R-2439 A Meeting 10/10/2019 Opening Statement to the Oireachtas Committee of Public Accounts on 10th October 2019 I am grateful for the invitation to appear before the Committee today to discuss the National Transport Authority’s Annual Accounts for 2018. As requested by the Committee’s Secretariat we have furnished some information in advance. To assist in answering your questions I am accompanied by three Directors from the National Transport Authority – Hugh Creegan, Deputy CEO, Tim Gaston, Director of Public Transport Services, and Philip L’Estrange, Director of Finance and Corporate Services. Our remit is primarily concerned with the planning, development and funding of sustainable transport modes, that is to say public transport, cycling and walking. At a national level, the Authority has responsibility for securing the provision of bus and rail services. This includes the provision of subsidised services through directly awarded contracts with Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus and Irish Rail. The Authority also tendered for the provision of bus services across the country and our contracted operators include Go-Ahead Ireland Ltd, JJ Kavanagh, Bernard Kavanagh, M&A Coaches and Wharton’s Travel. The Authority is also responsible for light rail services which we procure jointly with Transport Infrastructure Ireland. The Authority also regulates and licenses public bus passenger services which operate without subsidy from the state. We also manage the Rural Transport programme on behalf of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. Associated with the bus, rail and light rail services, a key role for the Authority has been the integration of payment systems and information for public transport users.

Compliant with current accessibility and environmental standards for transport systems, it offers accessibility for all. This philosophy has been a cornerstone of the design development of the system from the initial phases of the project. Whilst focused on people with mobility and sensory impairments the fact is that the approach of “access for all” works for everyone as the name implies. Full Wheelchair access ensures no steps so pushchairs and buggies and people with luggage also feel the benefit of the universality of the design. Well thought out surfacing, furniture, stop facilities, clear signage, audio announcements and destination displays all serve to make the system easier to navigate. The TII and Luas operating company, Transdev have been proactive in establishing procedures and implementing staff training & awareness initiatives, which further enhance the accessibility of the system. As a new system some users will be unfamiliar with all the features which have been incorporated into the design to assist with accessibility.

Introduction The National Transport Authority (the Authority) entered into Public Service Contracts with Dublin Bus (Bus Átha Cliath) in December 2014 and with Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) in December 2009 for the provision of transport passenger and ancillary services. The services that Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann provide under these contracts attract a public service obligation payment in line with EU regulation 1370/07. Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann are 100% owned by Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) and CIÉ is a statutory body with ownership vested in the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport. The National Transport Authority (the Authority) has the statutory obligation to secure the provision of light railway passenger services in the Greater Dublin Area.
