Hawaii Trip - Quick Gear Overview In early December, I went on a 10 day trip to Hawaii’s Big D750 Body + AF-S 50mm f/1.8G - $1,799 (SAVE $749) Island with my 88 year old dad. Sadly, I also came down D750 Kit w/24-120mm + 50mm f/1.8G - $2,499 with the worst flu I’ve had in years, so only had three (SAVE $749) or four days of feeling decent and thus not many days of shooting. I used my Fujifilm X-H1 kitand also had an Rode Microphones opportunity to do some daytime long exposures with two Pro ND filters There are some ongoing promos, now extended until stacked Hoya (very similar to Kenko), a 10-stop and a 6-stop Sirui carbon- January 5th, on Rode Microphones, with the following . I also took my compact fibre tripod specials… , which, at under 1 kg with the ball head, was great to travel with and stable enough for some minute Rode VideoMicro - $69 (SAVE $10) long exposures in breezy conditions. I shot some surfers with my 55-200mm zoom and it performed well, although the length of the 100-400mm (which I do not own) would surely have been far more effective for that. The X-H1’s IBIS came in handy a few times when I wasn’t carrying the tripod and lastly, my new Tenba DNA Messenger 15 Slim turned out to be ideal for this trip. I didn’t want to deal with a backpack, and thus a sweaty Rode VideoMic Pro - $249 back, in Hawaii’s heat and humidity, so the Tenba messenger (SAVE $50) bag was just the ticket. Despite being the “slim” version, it

On the flight there, it contained my X-Pro2 (as a backup body), the X-H1 body, my Laowa 9mm, and Fujifilm’s 14mm f/2.8, 16mm f/1.4, 23mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/2 and 55-200mm zoom, extension tubes, 4 spare batteries, memory cards, cable release, my 13” MacBook Air as well as my 9.7” iPad, Garmin NUVI and more. It was bulging a bit, but handled all that gear just fine. Once I arrived and was I had struggled with also bringing Fujifilm’s superb 90mm out shooting, I generally left the X-Pro2 and laptop behind f/2, but since it and the 55-200mm would not have both in the hotel to bring the weight down a bit! I don’t know about you but I like slide film, however I’m not in love with ‘slide film prices’, so to celebrate boxing day I rustled up some outdated, but previously frozen, then refrigerated slide film to sell for our day after boxing day sale. The Makerlabs community darkroom is located in a quiet corner of the 42,000 sq ft Makerlabs warehouse at 780 East Cordova Street. We have a Besler 23c enlarger, negative carriers for all formats, film developing tools and printing materials and are surrounded by other workshops and studios in a creative, collaborative environment.
The darkroom orientation (Photolab101) is scheduled by appointment to familiarise you with the shared space and offers an introduction to b/w film developing and b/w printing, as well as darkroom safety and protocol.
