However, it raises the question of whether Craig’s undoubted reputation as a writer has led to a misleading assessment of his prominence as an advocate in the legal profession of his day. A. INTRODUCTION Thomas Craig (c 1538–1608) is best known to posterity as the author of Jus Feudale and as a commissioner appointed by James VI in 1604 to discuss the possi- bility of a union of laws between England and Scotland.1 Following from the latter enterprise, he was the author of De Hominio (published in 1695 as Scotland”s * Lecturer in Law, University of Glasgow. Prophecy in the Reformed Tradition
PROPHECY IN THE REFORMATION TRADITION Willem Berends Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics By the Reformation tradition this study means to denote that movement within Christ's Church of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries which was based on the recognition of the Bible as the unique, complete and authoritative Word of God, sufficient for all matters of the Christian life and doctrine. This recognition of the sufficiency of Scripture came with the firm conviction that, after the apostles and prophets had laid the foundation for the Christian Church, the canon of Scripture was forever closed. The present article concerns the question whether this conviction leaves room for the possibility of post-canonical prophecy as a form of revelation that is subordinate to God's revelation in the Scriptures. It is not the purpose of this article to answer the question raised, but rather to investigate how some of the leading theologians in the Reformation tradition have answered this question. Somewhat anachronistically we will begin with Augustine, not only because he was among the first post-canonical theologians to clearly formulate the doctrine of the sufficiency of Scripture, but also because of his great influence on Reformation theologians. From Augustine we move to Martin Luther, who based his call to Reformation on the unique authority of Scripture. Next we will look at the views of John Calvin, as representing the early Reformed approach, and of William Perkins, who taught most of the Westminster Divines. We will study the works of George Gillespie as one who represented the Divines, and then turn to John Owen, who is credited with the first comprehensive theology of the Holy Spirit. -

The Medical History of John Knox

Wilkinson,* 70 Craigleith Hill Gardens, Edinburgh EH4 2DH One of the most striking monuments in the city of Geneva is the large and extensive memorial to the leaders of the Reformation in Europe. This monument took eight years to complete and was finally unveiled and dedicated in the year 1917 in the midst of the First World War. The central group of statues of this monument commemorates the Swiss Reformers and includes a statue of John Knox, which is a reminder of the significant part that Knox played in the Swiss Reformation in addition to his vital role in the Reformation in Scotland. John Knox was the last of the three great leaders of the European Protestant Reformation to die. On 18 February 1546, Martin Luther died at the age of 63 in Eisleben in Eastern Germany of myocardial infarction, secondary to systemic hypertension. John Calvin died at the age of 54 in Geneva on 27 May 1564 of pulmonary tuberculosis.2 Knox was 57 years old when he died in Edinburgh on 24 November 1572. Although some specific clinical details of the cause of his death have come down to us, very few details are available of his medical history during the course of his life. THE SOURCES The main primary source of our information about the life and activities of John Knox is in his own writings. These were collected and edited by David Laing in six volumes under the title The Works of John Knox, and published in Edinburgh over the years 1846 to 1864. -

She wrote partly from her own knowledge of events and also collected data from other ;-Sources. Miss Craig had hoped to have the results of her work published in her lifetime and she had made some plans toward that end.
