Michigan Ave. (1928; Holabird & Roche/Holabird & Root) The 333 NORTH MICHIGAN BUILDING is one of the city's most outstanding Art Deco-style skyscrapers. It is one of four buildings surrounding the Michigan A venue Bridge that defines one of the city' s-and nation' s-finest urban spaces. The building's base is sheathed in polished granite, in shades of black and purple. Its upper stories, which are set back in dramatic fashion to correspond to the city's 1923 zoning ordinance, are clad in buff-colored limestone and dark terra cotta. The building's prominence is heightened by its unique site. Due to the jog of Michigan Avenue at the bridge, the building is visible the length of North Michigan Avenue, appearing to be located in the center of the street. ABOVE: The 333 North Michigan Building was one of the first skyscrapers to take advantage of the city's 1923 zoning ordinance, which encouraged the construction of buildings with setback towers. The Symposium banquet will be held in the evening at Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. It will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. There will be a lakefront fireworks display right off the pier at 9:30 p.m. Buses will depart from Navy Pier around 10:00 p.m. We hope that many of you will take advantage of the time to visit Chicago. We will run several buses to Chicago in the morning. There will be a few additional buses in the afternoon. Detailed schedules will be available at the beginning of the conference and sign-up for the bus transportation is requested. We have some suggestions for tours you might take or sights you might see depending on your interests. Please be aware that many of the attractions are internationally renowned and, depending on the time of the year and the weather, can be quite crowded and have long waits for admission. Streeterville Neighborhood Plan 2014 update II August 18, 2014 Dear Friends, The Streeterville Neighborhood Plan (“SNP”) was originally written in 2005 as a community plan written by a Chicago community group, SOAR, the Streeterville Organization of Active Resi- dents. SOAR was incorporated on May 28, 1975. Throughout our history, the organization has been a strong voice for conserving the historic character of the area and for development that enables divergent interests to live in harmony. SOAR’s mission is “To work on behalf of the residents of Streeterville by preserving, promoting and enhancing the quality of life and community.” SOAR’s vision is to see Streeterville as a unique, vibrant, beautiful neighborhood. In the past decade, since the initial SNP, there has been significant development throughout the neighborhood. Streeterville’s population has grown by 50% along with new hotels, restaurants, entertainment and institutional buildings creating a mix of uses no other neighborhood enjoys. The balance of all these uses is key to keeping the quality of life the highest possible. Each com- ponent is important and none should dominate the others. The impetus to revising the SNP is the City of Chicago’s many new initiatives, ideas and plans that SOAR wanted to incorporate into our planning document. From “The Pedestrian Plan for the City”, to “Chicago Forward”, to “Make Way for People” to “The Redevelopment of Lake Shore Drive” along with others, the City has changed its thinking of the downtown urban envi- ronment. If we support and include many of these plans into our SNP we feel that there is great- er potential for accomplishing them together.

Roosevelt Road Letter from the Commissioner Greetings, On behalf of the City of Chicago, the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is pleased to present this Request for Proposals (RFP) for a prime development site within the North Lawndale community. The RFP is a key component of Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot’s INVEST South/West neighborhood revitalization strategy for Chicago’s South and West sides. It includes the largest piece of vacant land on the West Side of Chicago, presenting a unique opportunity to create a development that benefits North Lawndale families, workers and visitors. Its location and scope were coordinated following years of community discussion led by Ald. Michael Scott Jr. involving residents, businesses and other stakeholders. Logos: CTA in partnership with Chicago Department of Transportation and Chicago Department of Housing and Economic Development Welcome: Welcome to the public open house for the Ashland Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Environmental Assessment and project. • In April 2013, CTA and CDOT announced a vision for a center running Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Ashland Avenue between Irving Park Road and 95th Street to provide a fast and reliable north/ south transit connection for 16 miles through Chicago. The vision reflects the planning process and community engagement undertaken in 2012. • Over the summer, CTA and CDOT heard from various key stakeholders about this plan. We are now holding two public open house meetings as an extension of this outreach to gather additional input from the public. CTA and CDOT are still developing the Ashland BRT design, and we are considering options and modifications, including the implementation of additional left turns, based on continued feedback from the public. • The public open house meetings will summarize studies of the project impacts, including traffic analyses, that have been performed as part of the formal Environmental Assessment for the project, in accordance with federal government requirements. The Environmental Assessment is now complete and available on CTA’s website and in hard copy at several community locations. (collectively “APAC”), alleging APAC acted in bad faith (Count I) and breached a contract (Count II) by failing to settle a patient’s malpractice lawsuit against Surgery Center. APAC now moves to dismiss both claims against it pursuant to Rule 12(b)(6). For the reasons stated below, the Court denies in part and grants in part the motion. Background The following facts taken from the complaint are accepted as true for purposes of ruling on the motion to dismiss now before the Court. APAC provided malpractice insurance to Surgery Center from 1999 through 2005. Dkt. 1 ¶ 20. The insurance policies APAC issued to Surgery Center had one million dollar per-claim limits of liability. Id. In 2003, Ms. Tate, whose post-surgery complications rendered her quadriplegic, sued Surgery Center, where the surgery had been performed, and Dr. Hasson, the doctor who performed the surgery (“the Tate Suit”). Id. ¶ 21-23. APAC retained defense counsel to defend Surgery Center in the Tate suit.
