Spring Term 2020, issue 4 HEADLINES

Dear Parents,

Thank you to so many parents who attended this year’s Future Schools’ evening. We feel that this is such an important opportunity to meet so many schools and discuss future school options with Rose Hill staff. We were delighted to welcome Julie Lodrick, Headmistress at Kent College, Pembury as our guest speaker at this year’s event. Julie highlighted the choices between each independent school and the reasons for staying in your prep school until 13+. My thanks to all our senior professionals from over twenty excellent schools for supporting Rose Hill. Parents then had the opportunity to ‘visit’ a number of schools and talk to Rose Hill staff about planning their child’s next steps. Details of which can be found in this newsletter. As always, you are welcome to discuss future schools options with me. For an appointment do contact Ann Green on [email protected].

This morning, along with Coffee Connections, 3A reminded us of the incredibly important message of the power of growth mindset: learning is about making mistakes and we should support each other in the process. Their exciting assembly was told through story and song, retelling the wonderful book ‘The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes’ by Mark Pett and Gary Rubinstein. Well done 3A for your excellent assembly.

Information regarding Film Night: Pick up time is 7.45pm from the Quad. Disco Night: Pick up time is 6pm from the Quad.

Best wishes.

Spring Term 2020, issue 4 CONGRATULATIONS

Well done to Isabela in Year 6 who wrote a fantastic diary entry this week

ADVICE FROM PUBLIC HEALTH ENGLAND

In light of the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus in Wuhan, China we would like to reassure you that, as always, we are monitoring government advice and assessing any potential risks on a daily basis. The advice we and other schools are following comes from PHE (Public Health England) and I encourage you to check their website https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the- public

PHE have suggested that we forward the links below to our parent body. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public#advice-for-travellers- from-wuhan WHO advice: https://www.who.int/ith/2020-27-01-outbreak-of-Pneumonia-caused-by-new-coronavirus/en/ National Travel Health Network and Centre advice: https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

Foreign travel advice from FCO: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/health We operate a proactive approach to hand hygiene and encourage staff and pupils to pay special atten- tion to their hand hygiene techniques. Washing hands with soap and water helps break the chain of infec- tion.

We will continue to monitor the updates on the Coronavirus and update you accordingly. In the meantime we will keep reminding our staff and pupils to continue the high standard of hand hygiene already in ef- fect at school.

Spring Term 2020, issue 4 KINDERGARTEN CHINESE NEW YEAR

The children have been looking at Chinese New Year this week and Chinese culture. Some of the children have been playing in our Chinese restaurant role play area. Some of them wanted to be waiters and oth- ers wanted to be served. They ordered some noodles to eat with their chopsticks!

3B LOOK AFTER ROSIE

3B thoroughly enjoyed looking after Rosie this week. Every morning Rosie was put into her ball for a half hours exercise and different children took on the responsibility of collecting little treats for her from the dining room. Everyone thought she was very cute and enjoyed having the opportunity to stroke or hold her.

YEAR 3 GEOGRAPHY

In geography Year Three are investigating settlements. After looking at why settlements grew up in the areas they did, the children designed their own settlements using Plasticine.

Spring Term 2020, issue 4 SCOUTS COOKING BADGE

3A ASSEMBLY

Well done to 3A for such a great assembly teaching us about the importance of making mistakes and having a growth mindset. WELLNESS WEEK 4-7 MAY

We will be holding our third Wellness Week in May this year. If you or anyone you know might like to volun- teer their time to be part of the week to offer something for pupils, staff or parents, please contact [email protected]. Many thanks.

Spring Term 2020, issue 4 YEAR 2 3D SHAPES

Year 2 have had lots of fun exploring 3D shapes this week; finding out the shapes of faces, number of edges and vertices and where we see these types of shapes in the real world. We also experimented with nets by building our own 3D shapes – this was quite tricky. Take a look at our success!

YEAR 4 BRITISH MUSEUM

Year 4 visited the British Museum last Friday. The children first explored the Egyptian exhibits in Room 4, looking out for the Rosetta Stone.

We returned to the Education centre for a well-attended pow- er point presentation on Egyptian mum- mies. Year 4 an- swered lots of ques- tions and enjoyed some of the gory de- tails.

After lunch, we spent the rest of our visit in the Egyptian galleries upstairs trying to iden- tify all the mummies, human and animal, who featured in the power point talk.
