One last point. We, as parents, should never scold our children with the mentioned-before words: "You're always doing such and such!" Be sides the intimation that they are be ing labeled as habitual wrongdoers (and children often live up to how they feel we perceive them), another ter rible side effect occurs. When we say "You always ... " we are communicat ing to our children that their previous wrongdoings have not been forgotten by us. We are keeping a sort of men tal score card on them, and continu ing to add to the list of all their fail ings. When we do this, not only do we jeopardize our relationship with them, we serve as role models for them as having a long memory for past misdemeanors. 11lis will not au ger well for their future relationships.
