Gwyddys ei bod yn cynnal poblogaethau sylweddol o nifer o rywogaethau cenedlaethol prin a rhywogaethau dan fygythiad, ond hyd yma ni chynhaliwyd ond ymchwiliadau cyfyng o'r ffawna. Chwilen bisgwydd, Ernoporus tiliae, a chwilen ag adenydd rhwydog Cosnard, Erotides cosnardi, yw'r ddwy rywogaeth nodedig y gwyddys amdanynt yn yr ACA, y ddwy yn Rhywogaethau o Brif Bwysigrwydd yn Lloegr ond heb eu cynnwys yn Adran 7 Deddf yr Amgylchedd (Cymru) 2016. Y nod yn y pen draw yw llunio rhestr dros dro o ffawna infertebratau saprosylig coetir ledled y Safleoedd o Ddiddordeb Gwyddonol Arbennig (SoDdGA) sy'n ffurfio rhan Cymru o ACA Coetiroedd Dyffryn Gwy. Lle bo modd, bydd yr ymdrech gofnodi yn canolbwyntio ar nodi unrhyw rywogaeth saprosylig o bwysigrwydd cadwraeth genedlaethol neu leol. Y gwaith hwn fydd rhan gyntaf corff gwaith arfaethedig mwy a gynllunnir ar gyfer y blynyddoedd i ddod, gyda'r bwriad o gynhyrchu rhestr gynhwysfawr o infertebrata o ddiddordeb ledled Coetiroedd Dyffryn Gwy. Day, Department of Entomology, Virginia Tech Description Darkling beetles belong in the beetle family Tenebrionidae, which consists of more than 20,000 species of beetles. Adult darkling beetles widely range in shape and size, with most measuring from 2 – 19 mm (0.13” – 0.75”). Adults are usually a reddish-brown to brownish-black in color and can be shiny or dull. The elytra (the wing covers) can be smooth, grooved, or otherwise sculptured. Most do not have colorful patterns on their wing covers. Adults are most active at night and tend to avoid bright lights. Darkling beetle larvae are often referred to as mealworms or false wireworms. They are long, hard-bodied grubs with a cylindrical shape and are shiny yellow-brown to darKer brown in color. Most species of darkling beetles have a slow rate of development and may live for a year as an adult. Species living on grains or other stored products may develop faster. Habitat/Distribution Darkling beetles are found throughout the world except for places with very cold climates. They are scavengers and omnivores, feeding on decomposing plant material, dead insects, fungi, and stored products. Only a handful of darkling beetles are considered pests; the vast majority of them live in the wild and pose no harm.

Beetles and gall midges were reared from dead fruiting bodies of the polypore species Phellinus tremulae, Piptoporus betulinus, Fomitopsis pinicola, Pycnoporus cinnabari­ nus, Fomes fomentarius and Inonotus radiatus. The number of species differed signifi­ cantly among the polypore species. The variation in species richness conformed well with the hypothesis that more insect species may utilize a fungi species with (1) increasing durational stability, and (2) increasing softness of the carpophores. Strong preferance for certain polypore species was indicated for most of the Cisidae species, and a few species in the other families of beetles and gall midges (Diptera). The host preferances of the Cisidae species were in good agreement with records from other parts of Scandinavia. The host records in two of the gall midge species are new. September 1997 Specimens representing 19 orders and 169 arthropod families (mostly insects) were collected from greenleaf manzanita brushfields in northeastern California and identified to species whenever possible. More than500 taxa below the family level wereinventoried, and each listing includes relative frequency of encounter, life stages collected, and dominant role in the greenleaf manzanita community. Specific host relationships are included for some predators and parasitoids. Herbivores, predators, and parasitoids comprised the majority (80 percent) of identified insects and related taxa. Taxonomic characters, distribution, biology and literature of the eight species present on the Peninsula are given, because there is no citation from the Balearic Islands. Keys of subgenus and species are given. A graphical representation of the antennae, last segment of maxillary palps, aedeagus in ventral view with details of the median piece and habitus of all species are also given.
