FATHER MATT’S CORNER - Fifth Sunday of Easter

Dear Friends in Christ, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask what you will and you shall get it. It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit, and then you will be my disciples.” John 15:6-8

Jesus made it quite clear that apart from him we can do nothing that is why we always must stay close to him by obeying the commandments prayer and participation in the sacramental life. Apart from him we cannot do anything but with him and his help we can do many great things and bear fruit in his name. Our Lord made it clear that we were to go and make disciples. As we pray for this pandemic to end we are also praying and discerning about the best strategy for fellowship education and evangelization. Let us pray for one another as we come out of this pandemic that we bear much fruit in his name. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Matt

OUR CATHOLIC APPEAL The theme of the is: Do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31) You and I are touched by the ministries supported by Our Catholic Appeal. Our Catholic Appeal allows us to see beyond that we have faith to see the beauty that God has given all of us, and that we nurture and magnify what we have received to God’s glory. This faith is the force in which we break ever convention and see the encounter with Jesus. The ministries supported by Our Catholic Appeal treat our wounds and guide us on the path of holiness seeking after the Heart of the Lord. Jesus teaches us the path of holiness seeking after the Heart of the Lord. Jesus teaches us by His example of healing and giving glory to God. Our Parish goal for Our Catholic Appeal For 2021 is $171,576. I ask you to take a moment to reflect OUR CATHOLIC APPEAL on the many blessings you have received from God and prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to support the good work of our diocese. We suggest that each family could consider giving $275. We know this will be a burden for some families but if everyone will give a little, we will be able to make our appeal, while others will be able to give a larger amount. Once we achieve our goal, the majority of the additional funds will be returned to our parish to support our own special needs. Please prayerfully consider and come prepared to make your sacrificial gift. For your convenience, all pledges can be paid in ten monthly installments. Donations as of April 9, 2020 Pledged: $133,265 Number of Families: 396

Please prayerfully consider making a sacrificial gift. For your convenience, all pledges can be paid in ten monthly installments. DAN’S CORNER- MAY I LISTEN May I listen to your worries I cannot solve your problems Though you feel despair This is something only you can do If you talk with me a moment But talking through your worries You will see that I do care. May give an overview. Please share with me your sorrow Perhaps within the silence Don’t be ashamed to shed a tear You might just be aware I’ll listen to your worries That deep within the silence Try to help remove the fear. Is someone else who cares.

4 Funeral Notification and Planning

The death of a loved one is always painful, yet requires timely decisions for scheduling funeral rites. Contacting the funeral home/cremation provider of your choice is the first response following the death of a loved one. The funeral home or family member (for those who choose to use a direct cremation service/ society) should then contact, Dan Weimer, the Funeral Coordinator at Our Lady of Hope at (386) 299-4490. Dan will assist with scheduling a Mass or Service, and arrange an appointment with the family to plan the Funeral Mass/Service. Funeral Masses may be scheduled with the decedent in a casket or with cremated remains once the remains are available. Funeral Masses are scheduled and celebrated at Our Lady of Hope at the 8:30 a.m. Mass Monday through Friday. Memorial Masses are not permitted in the Diocese of Orlando (this means the absence of a body or cremains). A date for a Funeral Mass/Service cannot be sched- uled without the funeral home or family member contacting Dan. This policy is in place to avoid scheduling conflicts and assure the availability of the church and a priest. There are brochures available in the parish office which speak about the Church’s teachings on Catholic Funerals and Cremation. Bereavement Ministry (Comfort and Care) SEASONS OF HOPE - A six week program, rooted in Catholic tradition, conveys God’s consolation through scripture, prayer, reflection and sharing our faith. Each year many families face the loss of loved ones. Seasons of Hope offers the bereaved an opportunity to come together to share with others and can give a voice to your unique journey of grief, finding healing and hope. Since we not meeting as a group, I am still available for one on one basis. If you would like to speak confidentially or meet with me privately, please contact Pam Flesch at 386-788-1316.

MOVING ON– The bereavement group, Moving On , will begin a new path. The coordinator Maryann Curran has moved from Port Orange. The existing group, now nine years old, will meet once a month for a social, sharing time. If anyone new is interested, please call: 386-503-8937 and talk to Maryann. She will then pass information on to new leaders.

SPIRITUAL SHAPE UP Happy Easter! Welcome to the Easter Season—the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. During this season, we will focus on things that we can do at home to grow spiritually and the many special feasts that occur during this Season. During this season, I hope you can enter into the joy of the Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost.

EASTER WEEK 5: ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT In our gospel this week, Jesus says, “Ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.” This is a reminder to us that our God and Father loves us very much and wants us to be happy. He gives us not only what we need but what we want. This week, we also begin the month of May, which is dedicated to Mary. Knowing those two things, this week, pray a rosary and when doing so pray with a specific intention and ask the Lord for something that you want. Pray to the Lord through the intercession of Mary for something you want and trust Him to give you what is best. Want to go deeper Pope Francis has asked us to spend the month of May praying through the intercession of our Blessed Mother for the end of the pandemic. He has asked all Catholics to say a rosary a day during the month of May and to pray for the end of the pandemic. Will you do this?

Mission Statement: “Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church is a worshipping and welcoming parish community serving the Kingdom of God. We celebrate and live our faith in Jesus Christ through the Sacraments, and by our words and actions.”
