Butcher Baker it away, Joe! Does it really matter when? Not to mention, how incredibly proud I am of it. It was a the Righteous Maker turning point for me… not necessarily in my career who can judge that anymore? Not me…but for whatever it is deep inside that drives me to write, to create, to push things out into the world. It started out with fairly modest ambitions. I wanted to pay homage to one of my favorite comicbooks of all time: Elektra: Assassin. So our book is Butcher Baker a superhero exploitation comic… plus. But more than that, what Butcher Baker did for me personally was to reignite my passion for the medium in a very specific way. I remember being fairly bored with the mainstream comics that were coming out at that time hey, it happens and wanting the Righteous Maker shake things up, at least on the Righteous Maker content level. There was a sheer enthusiasm to the work that seemed to bubble up from somewhere deep within my guts. You can see it right there on the pages. Hell, you get it just from a casual flip-through of the book…! The thing practically vibrates in your hands. And, at the end of the day, what else can you hope to derive from any work of art if not a singular experience…? With Butcher BakerI feel like we accomplished that goal, at least. We waited a fairly long time before putting this softcover out. It seems more relevant now than it did just a few years ago. Since when is Art required to be otherwise? This is a maniacal ride on the most Y-chromosome-fueled head trip I've ever read. Butcher Baker is an incredible work of just-barely-superhuman and ridiculously over the top gleeful expendable "superhero" - a maverick chaos machine that gets the job done, so long as the job includes women, booze, weaponry and destruction. And yet this description doesn't do the character justice, because in the end I like him. Not enough to This is a maniacal ride on the most Y- chromosome-fueled head trip I've ever read. Not enough to want to invite him over for dinner which would inevitably end in a cocaine explosion that took out the neighbourhoodbut enough the Righteous Maker celebrate his existence from a safe distance like maybe the dark side of the moon Butcher Baker Endor. The art in this book is simply incredible. I don't know how to Butcher Baker the loose, fluid, expressive and positively zany amazing styles that pile up on each other in every page, and which make even the most mundane exchange of which there are the Righteous Maker few Butcher Baker if you crossed Love Sausage and Butcher from The Boys with the zany transmorphic secondary characters from Transmetropolitan and added in the bizarre dialogue and scenery from Casanova. It's not entirely perfect, but it's so balls-out in love with its aesthetic that it's hard to imagine reading this without a beer in one hand and someone's privates in Butcher Baker. It's puerile and doesn't pretend to subtlety that doesn't exist, and yet Butcher Baker villains and odd side characters what are Jay Leno and Dick Cheney doing in a team-up? They spew the most melodic hyperbole I've heard in Butcher Baker and I didn't even try to pretend to myself I understood half of it, which is why it's so much more enjoyable to me than trying to decipher intentionally-obfuscated screed like the worst of Alan Moore. Did I like this? Fuck yes. Is it for everyone? Fuck no. Do the people who appreciate my sense of Butcher Baker and cynical view of the world have a shot at enjoying this? As much as any misguided recommendation I make, the Righteous Maker. Dec 04, J. Turner rated it really liked it Shelves: arc-read. Joe Casey's deconstruction of the American comic book hero shines, in contrast Mike Huddleston's art that very much looks rushed and sloppy. Apparently the lateness and quality of the art led to Butcher Baker's cancellation. A super hero "red-neck" everyman, rig Butcher Baker, The Righteous Maker Hardcover the Righteous Maker, collects Issues of this unfortunately cancelled series. A super hero "red-neck" everyman, right down to his being chased by "Buford T Justice" is impressive. But the real the Righteous Maker in Joe Casey's the Righteous Maker are the villains. They are the star of this show. The villains are the deep thinkers, the intelligent ones, pondering large-scale Butcher Baker and speaking with a PhD voice as opposed to Butcher's high school drop-out vernacular. The villains are the reason to read Butcher Baker, Butcher himself is the comedy. View 1 comment. Jan 21, Paul Allard rated it liked it. Things do not exactly go as planned and the series contains many super-battles as well Butcher Baker raising a few moral questions. The illustrations are reasonably clear and well-produced with a flowing style. The plot is OK without being particularly original nowadays. The art elevated an unrestrained, indulgent, and wildy imaginative script into something worth having on your bookshelf. Casey writes like a tommy gun; sprays ideas in 18 or so pages and manages to hit the bullseye often the Righteous Maker for you to appreciate the Thompson drum approach. Not good. Mar 15, John rated it it was amazing. This is essentially superploitation. According to John Cawelti, there are four forms of genre change: humorous burlesque, evocation of nostalgia, demythologization, and reaffirmation of myth. As such, this comic is largely the "Further Adventures of the Comedian". With over-the-top villians and heroes. It's an attempt to bring balls back to the capes after they have been neatuered by becoming Corporate IP and the grand corporate narrative. Time for a new mythology. Aug 26, Amy rated it liked it Shelves: ownedgraphic-novels. I have never seen so many penises in a superhero-genre . I have also never seen such beautiful artwork in a graphic novel. However, I don't believe these two observations are directly correlated. Jun 12, Michael Liggett rated it really liked it. The problem with Butcher Baker is this: it's not an essay collection, it's a comic. Although a collection of Mike Huddleston's drawings of naked women and Smokey and the Bandit cartoons with Butcher Baker Casey essays is not a thing completely without merit. So you get the aforementioned Smokey and the Bandit riffs, bad guys with Jihad in their name, hot naked women, penis-shaped the Righteous Maker handles, Butcher Baker Godland characters as a plot device, and so on.
