BREAKING Newsrockville, MD August 19, 2019
MEDIA KIT BREAKING NEWS Rockville, MD August 19, 2019 THE BOYS by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson Coming to GraphicAudio® A Movie in Your Mind® in Early 2020 GraphicAudio® is thrilled to announce a just inked deal with DYNAMITE COMICS to produce and publish all 6 Omnibus Volumes of THE BOYS directly from the comics and scripted and produced in their unique audio entertainment format. The creative team at GraphicAudio® plans to make the adaptations as faithful as possible to the Graphic Novel series. The series is set between 2006–2008 in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the su- perheroes in the series' universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. The story follows a small clandestine CIA squad, informally known as "The Boys", led by Butcher and also consisting of Mother's Milk, the French- man, the Female, and new addition "Wee" Hughie Campbell, who are charged with monitoring the superhero community, often leading to gruesome confrontations and dreadful results; in parallel, a key subplot follows Annie "Starlight" January, a young and naive superhero who joins the Seven, the most prestigious– and corrupted – superhero group in the world and The Boys' most powerful enemies. Amazon Prime released THE BOYS Season 1 last month. Joseph Rybandt, Executive Editor of Dynamite and Editor of The Boys says, “While I did not grow up anywhere near the Golden Age of Radio, I have loved the medium of radio and audio dramas almost my entire life. Podcasts make my commute bearable to this day. -
‚Every Day Is 9/11!•Ž: Re-Constructing Ground Zero In
JUCS 4 (1+2) pp. 241–261 Intellect Limited 2017 Journal of Urban Cultural Studies Volume 4 Numbers 1 & 2 © 2017 Intellect Ltd Article. English language. doi: 10.1386/jucs.4.1-2.241_1 MARTIN LUND Linnaeus University ‘Every day is 9/11!’: Re-constructing Ground Zero in three US comics ABSTRACT KEYWORDS This article analyses three comics series: writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Tony comics Harris’ Ex Machina (August 2004–August 2010); writer Brian Wood and artist Ground Zero Riccardo Burchielli’s DMZ (November 2005–February 2012); and writer Garth 9/11 Ennis and artist Darick Robertson’s The Boys (October 2006–November 2012). archifictions Taking literary critic Laura Frost’s concept of ‘archifictions’ as its starting point, the War on Terror article discusses how these series frame the September 11 attacks on New York and architecture their aftermath, but its primary concern is with their engagement with the larger social ramifications of 9/11 and with the War on Terror, and with how this engage- ment is rooted in and centred on Ground Zero. It argues that this rooting allows these comics’ creators to critique post-9/11 US culture and foreign policy, but that it also, ultimately, serves to disarm the critique that each series voices in favour of closure through recourse to recuperative architecture. The attacks on September 11 continue to be felt in US culture. Comics are no exception. Comics publishers, large and small, responded immediately and comics about the attacks or the War on Terror have been coming out ever since. Largely missing from these comics, however, is an engagement with Ground Zero; after depicting the Twin Towers struck or falling, artists and writers rarely give the area a second thought. -

Signature Date: 17/12/2020 ii iii ABSTRACT Since the development of the superhero genre in the late 1930s it has been a contentious area of cultural discourse, particularly concerning its depictions of gender politics. A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism. -

The Gnostic Zombie in Robert Kirkman's the Walking Dead
Doing What Comes Unnaturally: The Gnostic Zombie in Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead Peter Y. Paik, Comparative Literature University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee I. Pursuing the Millennium, Redux The defining philosophic problem of modernity is that of the soul that has become closed within itself, and cannot get outside of itself. This closed soul is one that remains confined within the narrow orbit of a static and one-sidedly immanent account of human reality, which denies the very possibility of truths and experiences that transcend the circumscribed limits set by calculability and utility. The leading thinkers of the modern period have evoked in arresting ways the diminished spiritual, political, and historical horizon that afflicts modern man and woman. We may think here of Heidegger’s dictum that modern technology constitutes a mode of revealing that alters the way human beings relate to being, so that “everywhere and always” man only encounters himself.1 For Pierre Manent, modern man is cut off from the experience of conversion -- the postmodern tolerance of all differences is at the same time a flight from their necessarily competing claims of significance, ruling out thereby the possibility of being transformed by a singular difference.2 For Hannah Arendt, the crisis of modern politics stems from the waning of authority, which enables men and women to resolve their conflicts without resorting to violence and coercion,3 or, we might add in light of recent events, without putting social peace at the mercy of unsustainable levels of economic growth. José Ortega y Gasset, in Revolt of the Masses, provides a scathing portrait of the modern “mass man” who believes that there is no one capable of teaching him anything and who complacently imposes a technicist and materialist ideology on history and society. -
Darick Robertson: Into the Night
Darick Robertson: Into The Night “There are some things in this world that are neither human nor mutant, but threaten both species. There are places in this world where shadows rule—and creatures of darkness and light struggle, hidden from view. Where the superhuman and the supernatural meet, where the line between sorcery and science blurs, where the occult and the quotidian intermingle… there stalks the Nightcrawler.” That’s how writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa pitched Nightcrawler, a new monthly series set to debut this September from Marvel Comics. The book will be the first to feature the solo adventures of the fuzzy blue mutant on an ongoing basis. Joining Sacasa on the series will be talented artist Darick Robertson. Robertson cut his teeth on the acclaimed DC/Vertigo series Transmetropolitan before moving over to Marvel to pencil the controversial mini-series Fury and the Punisher origin tale Born. Late last year he also relaunched the monthly title Wolverine with writer Greg Rucka. Although Nightcrawler is still in the early stages of development, Darick took some time to answer questions about the recently revealed project. MARKISAN NASO: How did you get involved with Nightcrawler? DARICK ROBERTSON: It was offered to me by Marvel when it was clear that I would be available towards the end of my Wolverine run. I had mentioned to a few people there how much I love the character and how badly I wanted to do a Nightcrawler project. [Marvel Editor] CB Cebulski nominated me for the title immediately, recalling how much I enjoy drawing the character and our collaboration on X-Men Unlimited.
