From the

I recently went on a work/vacation trip during which I decided to write a daily blog in keeping friends and family “posted” about the happenings. So this blog really documents everything that my family and I get up to while relaxing in new environments, and briefly mentions some of the work-related elements as well. Now, blogging is nearly as old as a primary school child, so it needs no new introduction.

This whole process got me thinking again though. Firstly, we are discovering new places, people and experiences every day, and in all I am reminded of the goodness of God. I have come to realize again that God is indeed universal, and wherever a packed suitcase may take us, there God goes with as well. David puts it far better in Psalm 139: God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too — your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful — I can’t take it all in! Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit? To be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute — you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you (The Message).

Secondly, I have met some amazing people and have been overwhelmed at the creativity of God. I have realized that all people are people! By this I mean that as a human I am no different from another – often we think that a different race or culture is a different species! The greatest discovery (perhaps it is more of a reminder) is that God cares for all the people on earth, no matter where they are. While it may take me nearly a day to travel to a new place on earth, God is already there. Global travel may take time for me, but the globe is in the palm of God’s hand!

The blog I write in a sense becomes the documentation of God’s hand in the life of my family and I. And we are overwhelmed… by an indescribable love and an immeasurable grace. We are also confronted by God’s sense of humour and Him taking delight in our smallest pleasure. So the blog becomes a testimony to and of God in a sense. Who ever thought a blog could serve as a reminder of God? Initially I didn’t, but now some weeks into our journey, I have come to see that the greatest experience of life is simply to encounter God, even in what we consider small things.

May this issue of MyFaith Magazine be a blessing this new spring month, and may you experience God in the smallest of small things! Send us a mail, drop a message on the website or Facebook, and share with us what God means to you.

8 | SEPTEMBER 2015 myfaithmag.com CL • WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT THE MOST ABOUT BEING A DAD TO TWO BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS? Everyone always says kids will change your life forever, but I don’t think I understood just how much being a dad would change me and challenge me. I grew up in Beaver Dam, KY, which is just as small as it sounds. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows everybody and in a sense, your neighbor’s sort of feel like your family. Beyond that, I was on the road with my family for years doing music. I know family. I do the family thing well. But there is no amount of family time that could ever prepare you for kids. There is absolutely nothing in the world like being a father. Soon, I’m going to be the father of teenagers, which just seems crazy. Time flies so fast. The last thing I want to do is waste it or miss out on a chance to teach them something or encourage them in some way. I think as much as Shellye and I want to be the best parents we can be, we’re still human and sometimes it’s going to be trial and error. I sit back all the time and ask myself, what are they thinking? What’s going through their minds? Am I doing this right? Am I giving them enough…or too much? Am I really teaching them how to live a life in Christ? In a lot of ways, God is answering all these questions and blessing me through the faith that’s growing inside each of my daughters’ hearts. To watch my girls get to know Christ…really, there aren’t words to describe that feeling. It’s amazing and demands that I keep growing right alongside them. The Bible tells us, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6).

BY JOYCE MEYER Overcome Doubt and Live with Bold Faith n Acts 27 (AMP), there’s a great story about the apostle Paul. He was travelling by ship with some people when “a violent wind [of the character of a typhoon]…came bursting down from the island” (v. 14). For days they were caught in the storm, and at one point it was so fierce, they were I“dangerously tossed about by the violence of the storm” (v. 18) and had to throw the ship’s equipment overboard. They ended up without food, hungry, stranded – seemingly without hope.

In that moment, Paul stood in the midst of the survivors and said to them, “I beg you to be in good spirits and take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you…” (v. 22). He then shared that an angel of God told him this, and said in verse 25, “So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith (complete confidence) in God that it will be exactly as it was told me.”

How could Paul, in the middle of a horrible storm, ask the people to “be in good spirits” and have a good attitude? Because he believed in his heart—without a doubt—“that it will be exactly as it was told me.” I love that! It’s a great picture of the power of faith in God when all hope seems lost. And we can have the very same faith that Paul had if we will overcome doubt.

We all face storms in life. Some are more difficult than others, but we all go through trials and tribulation. That’s why we have the gift of faith. Ephesians 6:16 (NIV) calls it “the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Doubt is a type of “flaming arrow” that the enemy uses to attack our faith.

12 | SEPTEMBER 2015 myfaithmag.com CL We usually experience doubt after we’ve made a decision. In James 1:6, the Bible says having doubt is like being tossed about like the wind, which feels like you’re trying to go in two different directions at the same time. And it’s miserable to be torn between two places, not able to decide what you really believe. It’s in those moments we have to choose whether we are going to believe God or the enemy…God or our feelings…God or what people tell us…God or our circumstances…

When doubt comes against us, we have to lift up the shield of faith. We do this when we open our mouth and say what God’s Word says, rather than grumbling and complaining about the problem. Our faith is released as we say, pray and do the Word. So in those times, open your mouth and say, “I believe that everything God has told me will come to pass!”

Maybe you’re doubting whether you can hear God’s voice or not. This happens because we usually doubt ourselves more than we doubt God. Now I’m not talking about actually hearing a voice; I’m talking about that knowing we have insideour hearts about what is right or wrong. That’s the still, small voice of God.Believers in Jesus Christ all have it, but many don’t have the confidence to trust it.

The Bible says in James 1:5 that when we need wisdom, we can go to God, ask Him for it, and He will give it to us “liberally and ungrudg- ingly, without reproaching or faultfinding” (AMP). What this means is that even with our imperfections, God will be faithful to us and give us what we need if we will ask Him for help. He loves us, blesses us and uses us in spite of us, because He is faithful! And we never have to doubt that.

I’ve learned through my own relationship with God that He’s not expecting me to be perfect; He wants me to do my best to be in His will and take steps of faith as He leads me, through His Word and the promptings He speaks to myheart. Remember, He wants us to put our confidence in Him. God really does want to speak to you personally and lead you in His great plan for your life. So don’t be afraid to step out and do what’s in your heart. If you make a mistake, you’ll learn from it and go on. That’s how we “step out and find out.” And we all have to do it.

I want to encourage you to begin making confessions every day that will help you grow in your faith and confidence in God. We need to make declarations like, “God loves me. He wants to speak to my heart. I can hear from God. He is faithful to me and will lead me in His will for my life. And I believe it will be exactly as God has told me!” By God’s grace, we can be bold in faith and overcome every attack of doubt during the storms of life.

OPINION 50 Shades of Grey

BY PS LODEWYK SPIES

Well whether you are Mr. Grey, Mr. Black, Mr. White, Mr. Pink or Yellow the same goes for all. As the German saying goes, ‘Before God and the bus conductor all are the same.’ The thing is that we all arrive, in more or less the same state, without Huggies. We all go in the same state, with- out Huggies. So from ‘no-Huggies’ to ‘no-Huggies’ all are pretty much on the same trajectory. This is if you believe the song that Bette Midler made popular, ‘From a distance.’ The lyrics of the last verse go something like this:

‘It’s the hope of hopes; it’s the love of loves. This is the song of every man. And God is watching us, God is watching us, God is watching us from a distance. Oh, God is watching us, God is watching. God is watching us from a distance.’

If you are of the view that God is watching us from a distance, it is probably time you change the scale you are judging things by. God is definitely not one that goes for 50 shades of Grey. In fact He despises it. It is not fair that one whips yourself or anyone for that matter thinking that God is watch- ing us from a distance. If God did not have an eye for detail, your fingerprint would not be a unique characteristic, unique enough to be identified and distinguished from any person that prob ably ever lived on this earth. Amazingly the fingerprint is not the only uniqueness about you. Your eyes, hence the things you use to distinguish one shade of grey from another are as unique as your voiceprint. Amazingly all as unique as your DNA string. Why your hands, eyes and voice? I am not sure, but if you have a few minutes spare between paging through the greys of the catalogues of your favourite paint shop, consider this:

Isaiah 49:15-16 reads: “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may for- get, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me…”

Admittedly God is speaking to ‘Zion’. Reading Isaiah 34, God says this about those living in Zion: ‘And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.’ Hence, whether or not you believe that you might just be a shade of grey, not being distinguished one from the other or not. All that you need to know is what God wants for you – all the inhabitants of the beloved city can know that God does not want them sick, and that they have a clean bill of health. To become an inhabitant of that City you need to have your passport changed, you need to immigrate.

16 | SEPTEMBER 2015 myfaithmag.com CL Colossians 1:13 is insightful pieces on the effect of filling out your application form to immigrate: ‘Who hath delivered us from the power of dark- ness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.’ The prior and next verse of the same chapter explains the rest:

“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

To immigrate you need to make Him your King, and by doing so you become a citizen of a country where all the benefits of the country accrues to you. However, this immigration is different. It is something to die for. Praise God –He died for us. The life that is free that cost so much: -- Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4).

Without fooling around too much, God made His intentions clear, He gave you a name so that He can call you by it. If you recognize your name, Mr. Grey, Mr. Black, Mr. White, Mr. Pink or Yellow, and respond, your life will be turned into fifty shades of gold, or blue or pink, or whatever your favourite colour might be. Why? Because God expressed the desire that you can have life and have that to the overflowing. That is why Jesus came, Mr. Gold, Mr. Blue or Mr. Pink, whatever your name might be. He thought of you when He made the decision to live out His Father’s dream for you. You might think that the nails kept Him on the cross. It did not. His love for you kept Him there, John, Joe, or Janet. Because He knew your name before the foundations of this world was put in.

If you want to commit suicide, ignore Jesus. Why suicide? Every person that opts to die by refusing Jesus is committing suicide. Do not believe the lie that God does not know your name. You matter to Him. The Word and the world are full of testimonies of God showing Himself strong on behalf of those that do not have a name. They said ‘Yes.’ when God called. Samuel did when God spoke, so did David and John. Your turn now Mr. and Ms. Not so Grey; because you need God’s DNA to have a changed trajectory, so that you will not be one that is just know as another ‘from-Huggies-to-Huggies’ person, but that the records, spe- cifically the book of life, can show that you were born in Zion. For the person prior to you being born again, the records will show that you born somewhere on earth and died on the cross in Christ. The new man, born in Zion, alive and well; now and for all eternity, the new creature, the old is gone, the new has come. Peter or Paul or whatever you are called; no more greys, His love for you was written in blood. As the singer Mr. Cohen has to say - there ain’t no cure, there ain’t no cure for love, it is written in the Scriptures, it is written there in blood. There ain’t no cure for love.

CL myfaithmag.com SEPTEMBER 2015 | 23 CHANGE REVOLUTION What Hollywood Knows About Resilience, That YOU DON’T!

BY PHIL COOKE

Love it or hate it, one thing you can say about many producers in 1. Don’t be a “One Trick Pony.” Ken pitched that book for years, but Hollywood is that they are remarkably resilient. They don’t give up, it wasn’t the only project he was developing. He was also working on and in some cases keep pitching ideas for years. There’s something other movies as well, but always looking for the right opportunity to to be said for that, because in my experience, when people outside produce “Christy.” Hollywood hit a wall, get rejected, or suffer a defeat, nine times out of ten, they give up. In fact, he just wouldn’t let it go, to the point Ken agreed. But in other situations, I too often hear responses from that I started feeling really bad for the guy. BY PHIL COOKE

In many ways, the most important advantage a person has in the workplace are relationships. In the past, “networking” was about taking advantage – what other people can do for me. But today, networking is about helping other people because it’s the right thing to do. Whether you believe in God, Karma, or random chance, the truth is, when you help others achieve their dreams, they can help achieve yours. But when it comes to the men- tors and allies you have at work, here are some important principles to remember:

If you’re weak with numbers, develop a relationship with someone Far too many people are rude and inconsiderate to co-workers in accounting. If you’re weak creatively, get to know the creative while they’re rising in the company. But no one knows the future, team. Too often we spend the most time with people like us, when and you never know who you’ll need to know. Be nice now – it can we should be spending more time with people who complement reap powerful dividends later in your career. our skill set. It’s not about using them, it’s about how together you can be more valuable to the organization.

I can tell in less than a minute when someone is simply trying to get something from me. The old saying “They don’t care how much you Early in my career I realized I couldn’t spend time with the company know until they know how much you care” is true. Count on it. president, so I got to know his secretary, an older woman named Ruth. I remembered her birthday, asked about her family, and we became friends. I discovered pretty quickly just how much power the president’s secretary really had. An email from her was as authorita- tive as an email from the boss, and her influence made a huge differ- ence for me. Likewise, security guards, receptionists, and others can help when the chips are down. Never forget that the least powerful people can often have the most influence. I don’t care what your job is, your ability to get along with people trumps everything. If you can inspire and motivate people, you’ll always be in demand.
