Received: February 18, 2019 Accepted: March 21, 2019 ABSTRACT: There is a common perception that British rule resulted in poverty, de industrialization etc in India. But as for as princely state of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned the British intervention resulted in positive outcomes. The British intervention resulted in modernization of various fields of Jammu and Kashmir. The introduction of modern education, land settlements ,modern health care, transportation etc. where the outcomes of British intervention. This paper highlights that British intervention resulted in modernization of Jammu and Kashmir not only in short run but in long run. Key Words: INTRODUCTION Once British became absolute political power in the Indian sub-continent, there policy towards princely states remained of two type’s i.e., direct and indirect policy. Direct policy was promoted towards the states which were directly ruled by British through their governors and indirect policy was conceded towards the states, ruled indirectly by British through their residents. The preference to bring a state under direct or indirect policy was mostly determined by state’s geography and economic resources. British annexed Punjab in 1846 and Kashmir being part of Lahore Darbar also came under the suzerainty of British. But at that time fate of Kashmir was determined by the need of time when British found sale of Kashmir inevitable because Punjab was yet to consolidate and North-West Frontier and Afghanistan unsettled.

He dedicated forty-five years of his life to medical service in China. He grew up in Scotland, where he was born at Kirkmichael in 1856, and where he studied medicine and 1 business at Glasgow and Edinburgh.

In order to ensure competitive advantage, they must be able to promote high levels of professional performance. This research is part of this theme and aims to analyze how the job characteristics, professional knowledge, skills, competencies, training and work engagement influence the job evaluation and, consequently, the performance of employees of six public hospitals, China. The sample consists of 546 subjects aged between 21 and 58 years (M = 37.9; SD = 8.73), with the majority being females (55.5%). For the collection of data, such scales were used as the Job Diagnostic Survey (JDS), the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Personal Characteristics Scale (KSAOS), the Competencies and Training Scale (CTS) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). The results obtained show that the job characteristics, the professional knowledge, the skills, the training and the work engagement influence the job evaluation. It was also found that the male respondents, those belonging to the older age group, those with higher academic qualifications and those with higher positions present higher average performance in all dimensions under study.

RufusJones and Quaker Unity HUGH BARBOUR he Society of Friends, for Rufus Jones1 as for Arthur Roberts,2 remains a single movement, called by God to a special role in T American Christianity and world history. Both men have also been realistically aware of human limitations and diversity. Yet they have seen God's power, shared in meetings for worship as well as in the religious expe­ rience of individuals, able to change human society and transcend human ideas and institutions. 1887, when Christ-centered Friends were brought together in Rich­ mond by their disagreements over ministry and sacramental Ordinances, was a time of great hope among American churches. Revivals and Holiness camp meetings aroused evangelical Protestants, while New Englanders were shown the creativityof the individual human spirit by Emerson, Low­ ell and Thoreau.

May it not be that the influence exerted by the record is the completion of the work that seemed to be prematurely laid down ? David Brainerd died at the age of thirty, Henry Martyn at thirty-two, Keith Falconer at thirty-one, Mackay at forty-one,, There are biographies of older men, Livingstone, Judson, Patteson, French, which have powerfully affected men, but a disproportionate number of the effective books have dealt with short lives. This life of Irene Petrie is another illustration of this fact. She spent four years in missionary service, and died at the very beginning of her work. It was one more incompleted life awaiting fulfilment in the lives of men and women who will take up the work which she loved and served, through the holy persuasion of her example and spirit. Irene Petrie was one of the first representatives of the missionary movement among students to fall in the forefront of foreign missions. The call came to her in 1891, -and in 1893 she sailed for India. In 1897 she passed away at Leh in the Himalayas.

    GIMPEL, NIELSE GIMPEL, Explores new ways to understand the dynamics of change and mobility in ideas, people, organisations and cultural paradigms China is in flux but – as argued by the contributors to this volume – change is neither new to China nor is it unique to that country; similar patterns are found in other times and in other places.     Dearly beloved, Greetings to you all in the name of the crucified and risen Lord. I count it to be a blessing and an opportunity to serve at St. Thomas English Church, formerly ‘St. Thomas by the sea’. I am aware that I am here to serve in a parish with a long-cherished tradition and history. The Church of South India is an amalgamation of many missionary traditions. The last to join the church union movement was the Anglican tradition. Today we have churches and institutions which are even 300 years old. But thanks be to God, this is a growing church and the growth in the number of believing Christians, congregations and Dioceses are all evidences to this fact. The month of June is generally earmarked for youth and their concerns. All over the diocese of Madras, we have seen young people observing Youth Sunday worship services, retreats, carnivals, competitions and celebrations. This year, this has been hindered due to COVID-19 and its fallout. Our church is young, as it provides adequate space for younger generations to be part of the church and her administration. The Constitution of the Church of South India, our Diocese and our Pastorates have close to 1/4th of its constituency reserved for the youth. This is done so that the young should understand that the church belongs to them, and any and every decision should matter to them also. The youth are the torch bearers and the ones who carry the baton in our journey and race. This is also Biblical, as Paul in 1 Tim 4: 12, writes, ‘Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.’ The presence of young people in the church has come of history, the fact of being despised just because of age is one of reality.
