Biography June 2017) (Press Biography June 2017) Take Me Home (Digipak CD and digital download / 53:29 min / release date Sept. 8th 2017) For All We Know is (Within Temptation guitarist) Ruud Jolie's solo project. Six years ago For All We Know’s self titled debut album was released. Afterwards the urge to write and release more of his own music was very strong, so Jolie started working on his second album Take Me Home. For the music and lyrics of the album he collaborated with vocalist Wudstik. The band consists of the same main musicians that played on the first album; Léo Margarit (Pain of Salvation), Kristoffer Gildenlöw (ex Pain of Salvation), Marco Kuypers (ex Cloudmachine) and Thijs Schrijnemakers (Orgel Vreten). As guest vocalist on Take Me Home, the amazing Anneke van Giersbergen is featured. During the last five years this album was created both when Jolie was on the road with various bands (Within Temptation, The Gentle Storm, Maiden uniteD, etc.) and in his own studio in the Netherlands. The 12 songs range from dark, atmospheric and dreamily acoustic to bright, heavy and pounding progressive metal tracks and were produced by Jolie himself. In comparison to the first album, Take Me Home takes things more into the extremes; heavy songs are heavier and softer songs are softer; and everything in between of course. In early summer 2017 the album was very successfully crowdfunded. On Indiegogo € 12.849,- was raised (143% of the campaign goal). Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Music › News Features Reviews Playlists Live Review: Within Temptation @ O2 Academy Birmingham 9/11/18 Within Temptation are absolutely mesmerizing on their latest world tour, writes Helena Senior Tuesday 20 November 2018 PHOTO: Neon Tommy; Flickr 8/10 This is the second time I’ve seen Dutch metal band Within Temptation live at Birmingham’s O2, a symphonic metal group formed in 1996 fronted by the ever-incredible Sharon den Adel. If you’re a fan of bands like Nightwish and Evanescence, then the operatic, gothic sounds of Within Temptation will be just up your street. Within Temptation opened their set with not one, but three songs from the new album Resist (due to be released 14 December)! Usually, opening with a block of new tracks that your audience may not be familiar with would be a bad idea in my books, but these guys make it work. The moment Sharon stepped out onto that stage, to ‘Raise your Banner’, waving a large white flag she had the entire audience under her spell. Her vocal talents will never cease to amaze me, considering she’s never had formal training. The operatic elements of Within Temptation sound amazing on their studio albums, but hearing it live absolutely blows me away every time. ‘Stand My Ground’ is an old favourite of mine, from The Silent Force album, and it’s definitely a favourite for the entire crowd.

    Darkwater – Human (78:09, CD, Doppel-Vinyl und digital, Ulterium Reccords, 2019), Mit „Human“ stellt ein weiterer Vertreter des progressiven Metals, zu Beginn des neuen Jahres, ein neues Album vor. Gegründet 2003, veröffentlichen die Schweden Darkwater nach „Calling the Earth to Witness“ (2007) und „Where Stories End“ (2010) bereits ihr drittes Werk. Auch wenn diese Musikrichtung nicht unbedingt jedermanns Geschmack sein wird, so ist doch neidlos anzuerkennen, dass „Human“ etwas hat. Und zwar eine Menge in die Ohren gehende Melodien, die einen nicht mehr so schnell loslassen. Man könnte diese fast schon als mainstreamige, metallische Ohrwürmer bezeichnen. Es ist aber gerade diese melodische Art, die „Human“ prägt und sympathisch macht. Neben den obligatorischen härteren Gitarrenparts, finden sich selbstverständlich auch die typischen Breaks, Tempowechsel, druckvolle Perkussionsarbeit und Wechsel in der Rhythmik auf dem Album wieder. Aber nicht nur das steht für eine gelungene progressive Metalveröffentlichung. Es ist die ausgewogene Integration aller musikalischer Elemente, in die zum Teil komplexeren Songstrukturen, die gerade in diesem Fall das Besondere ausmachen. Druckvoll, atmosphärisch, harmonisch mit breiten Keyboardteppichen unterlegt, dazwischen mal akustisch und dann wieder heftig zuschlagend, das ist „Human“. Dazu, über all dem stehend, der gute und vor allem stimmige Gesang vonHenrik Båth, nicht zu aufdringlich aber doch immer präsent, der letztendlich das Gesamtbild des Albums harmonisch abrundet.     Devin Townsend Project – Transcendence (64:19, CD, InsideOut / Sony Music, 2016) Hier steht nicht nur „Project“ drauf, diesmal steckt auch wirklich jede Menge Project drin! Denn im Gegensatz zu anderen Veröffentlichungen unter dem Namen Devin Townsend Project, kurz DTP, hat der manische Kontrollfreak aus Kanada bei „Transcendence“ einiges an Fremdeinwirkung zugelassen. Townsends Band a.k.a. The Project –Ryan Van Poerderooyen (Schlagzeug), Dave Young (Gitarre, Keyboards), Brian ‚Beav‘ Waddell (Bass), Mike St-Jean (Keyboards, Programming) – bekam nicht nur bei den Kompositionen mehr Freiraum und Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten, mit Adam ‚Nolly‘ Getgood war sogar ein externer Produzent am Start. Zwar betrachtet Devin Townsend DTP weiterhin grundsätzlich als Soloprojekt, da er die Ideen und die Grundstrukturen vorgibt, aber er ließ bei „Transcendence“ wesentlich mehr äußeren Einfluss zu – womöglich um sich selbst aus der Komfortzone zu locken. Auf den ersten Blick wirkt „Transcendence“ wie ein typisches Devin-Townsend-Album. Seine ganz typische Interpretation von Prog Metal mit Trademarks wie wuchtigem Wall of Sound und ebensolchen Orchestrationen sowie epischer Heavy-Bombast sind auch hier zu finden.

Video laden Der aufgrund gravierender Meinungsverschiedenheiten mit Hans Dampf in allen Gassen Wilson kurzfristig reaktivierte Morgan, der schon von 1994 bis 1996 in der Band war, verleiht dem ursprünglich nicht für ihn geschriebenen Material ein wenig mehr Rauheit und Kante (vgl. das heftige ‚Snowblind‘), zeigt sich aber auch der großen Form (der Aufmacher ‚The Man Who Saw Through Time‘ läuft ein Dutzend niemals langweilige Minuten) und selbst der Threshold-Variante von Piano-Balladen (‚Swallowed‘, Intro von ‚State Of Independence‘, das Zwischenspiel ‚The Shire (Part 2)‘) absolut gewachsen. Beim u.a. vom Brexit inspirierten Konzeptalbum sind neben der generell entfesselt guten Ensembleleistung noch gesondert die vielen schönen Parts für Akustikgitarre hervorzuheben. Das zehnminütige ‚Lost In Translation‘ ist neben ‚Small Dark Lines‘ ein weiterer Höhepunkt des rundum gelungenen Werks.
