Funding for the 2015 NMIS was provided by the United States President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI); the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria; and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) through the Support to National Malaria Program (SuNMaP). Other partners who provided technical support include the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and Society for Family Health (SFH). Preparations for the Elections The political temperature across the country is heating up in preparation for the 2015 elections. While some state governors are up for re-election, most others are serving out their second terms. The implication is that most of the states are open for grab by either of the major parties and will therefore make the electoral contest fiercer in 2015 both within the political parties and in the general election.

    The Jonathan Presidency By Reuben Abati Published by The Jonathan Presidency The Jonathan Presidency By Reuben Abati A review of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidency in Nigeria should provide significant insight into both his story and the larger Nigerian narrative. We consider this to be a necessary exercise as the country prepares for the next general elections and the Jonathan Presidency faces the certain fate of becoming lame-duck earlier than anticipated. The general impression about President Jonathan among Nigerians is that he is as his name suggests, a product of sheer luck. They say this because here is a President whose story as a politician began in 1998, and who within the space of ten years appears to have made the fastest stride from zero to “stardom” in Nigerian political history. Jonathan himself has had cause to declare that he is from a relatively unknown village called Otuoke in Bayelsa state; he claims he did not have shoes to wear to school, one of those children who ate rice only at Xmas. When his father died in February 2008, it was probably the first time that Otuoke would play host to the kind of quality crowd that showed up in the community. The beauty of the Jonathan story is to be found in its inspirational value, namely that the Nigerian dream could still take on the shape of phenomenal and transformational social mobility in spite of all the inequities in the land. With Jonathan’s emergence as the occupier of the highest office in the land, many Nigerians who had ordinarily given up on the country and the future felt imbued with renewed energy and hope.

One of the recent programmes is the Vision 20:2020 which has been designed to catapult the Nigerian economy into one of the twenty best economies in the world come year 2020. As laudable as this programme’s objectives are, this paper examines how the main objective of the programme could be achieved through the promotion of trade. In order to achieve this, this study has adopted the export-led- hypothesis, using the classical aggregate function. Regression analysis was used to determine whether the variation in economic growth represented with GDP in the past years was explained by a change in the volume of trade and the extent while the Augmented Dickey Fuller test was used to test the stationarity of the time series. The direction of causality of the variables was tested through the Granger causality test. The result revealed a significant positive relationship with economic growth while the Granger causality test revealed a unidirectional causal relationship from exports to GDP. This study confirms other similar ones carried out by other researchers on the relationship between trades and economic growth.

The place of women in politics has always been an ongoing study due to patriarchal domination of men in Nigeria. The study was anchored on the equity theory of leadership which holds the assumption that an individual is motivated by the desire to be equitably treated in his or her work relationship based on fairness. The study adopted a mixed method of content/document analysis and interview. The content/document analysis examined manifest content of appointments and interview provided a face-to-face interaction with selected political stakeholders. Amongst other findings, the study revealed that both administrations of President Jonathan and President Buhari encouraged women political participations at various levels. This is equally supported by the results of interview sessions with political stakeholders. Based on the findings, it is recommended that although women participated under the two administrations, there is need to review upwards, the number of women that are assigned ministerial portfolios and other political appointments. This has led to the suspension of all educational activities especially in-class teaching and learning processes. This paper studied the state of education in Nigeria and the effort of government towards continuous education in comparison to the measures put in place by other developing countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper equally reviewed five different available and popular online learning platforms that can be implemented by the government to provide start-up educational programs that would help to keep students on course by learning remotely from home throughout the period of Covid- 19 pandemic.

    Written evidence submitted by the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV), University of St Andrews (IRN0033) Introduction Omeni is a Lecturer in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies with the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV), University of St Andrews. Omeni joined the CSTPV from the University of Leicester, where he was an Assistant Professor in African Politics and led the Africa Research Group. Omeni joined Leicester from King’s College London where he taught at the Department of War Studies. He previously worked with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and was co-chair of the Africa Research Group at King’s College London (affiliated to their world-leading War Studies department). In 2019, Omeni won the prestigious “Rising Star” excellence award at King’s College London. Omeni earned his PhD in 2015 at King’s College London’s Defence Studies Department, based at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Defence Academy of the UK. He has published extensively, with three books on the police and politics in Nigeria, the Nigerian military and Boko Haram’s insurgency. A fourth work, Rebel: 500 Years of Civil Wars, Small Wars and Insurgencies in Africa, is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press. 1 Reason for Submitting Evidence: The recent death of the militant jihadist Abu Shekau, Boko Haram’s leader, offers a natural juncture to reflect on the ongoing security crisis in North-East Nigeria and how it might be more rendered more amenable to positive intervention. Having lectured and published extensively on security in Nigeria, worked with the British Army expedition in Nigeria (and received a commendation for helping the unit), and done policy work with IISS and RUSI on the same theme, I am in a position to offer UK policy recommendations on the Nigeria Review, in the area of security.
