210 JERZY DZIK Genus Posttornoceras Wedekind, 1910 Type species: Posttornoceras balvei Wedekind, 1910 from the mid Famennian Platyclymenia annulata Zone of the Rhenisch Slate Mountains. Diagnosis. — Suture with pointed flank lobe and angular or pointed dorsolateral lobe. Remarks. — Becker (1993b) proposed Exotornoceras for the most primitive members of the lineage with a relatively shallow dorsolateral lobe. The difference seems too minor and continuity too apparent to make this taxonomical subdivision practical. Becker (2002) suggested that this lineage was rooted in Gundolficeras, which is supported by the data from the Holy Cross Mountains. The suture of Posttornoceras is similar to that of Sporadoceras, but these end−members of unrelated lin− eages differ rather significantly in the geometry of the septum (Becker 1993b; Korn 1999). In Posttornoceras the parts of the whorl in contact with the preceding whorl are much less extensive, the dorsolateral saddle is much shorter and of a somewhat angular appearance. This is obviously a reflection of the difference in the whorl expansion rate between the tornoceratids and cheiloceratids. Posttornoceras superstes (Wedekind, 1908) (Figs 154A and 159) Type horizon and locality: Early Famennian at Nehden−Schurbusch, Rhenish Slate Mountains (Becker 1993b). Diagnosis. — Suture with pointed tip of the flank lobe and roundedly angulate dorsolateral lobe. Remarks.—Gephyroceras niedzwiedzkii of Dybczyński (1913) from Sieklucki’s brickpit was repre− sented by a specimen (probably lost) significantly larger than those described by Becker (1993b). The differ− ence in proportions of suture seem to result from this ontogenetic difference, that is mostly from increase of the whorl compression with growth. We are pleased and honored to welcome at the Paléospace Museum of Villers-sur-Mer the “6th Symposium on Mesozoic and Cenozoic Decapod Crustaceans”. Villers-sur-Mer is a place universally known by specialists and amateurs of palaeontology due to its famous Vaches Noires cliffs. Villers-sur-Mer has also the distinction of being the only French seaside resort located on the Greenwich Meridian line. The Paléospace is a Museum funded in 2011 with the label Musée de France. Three main animations linked to the Time are presented: palaeontology, astronomy and nature with the neighbouring marsh. The museum is in a constant evolution. For instance, an exhibition specially dedicated to dinosaurs was opened two years ago and a planetarium will open next summer. Every year a very high quality temporary exhibition takes place during the summer period with very numerous animations during all the year. The Paléospace does not stop progressing in term of visitors (56 868 in 2015) and its notoriety is universally recognized both by the other museums as by the scientific community. We are very proud of these unexpected results. We thank the dynamism and the professionalism of the Paléospace team which is at the origin of this very great success. We wish you a very good stay at Villers-sur-Mer, a beautiful visit of the Paléospace and especially an excellent congress. Palaeonlologia Polonica, 50, 3—94, 1990. Taxonomic and ecological analysis of the ammonite assemblages, as well as their general paleogeographical setting, indicate that the Albian deposits in the Polish part of the Central European Basin accumulated under shallow or extremely shallow marine conditions, while those of the High-Tatra Swell were deposited in an open sea environment. The Boreal character of the ammonite faunas in the epicontinental area of Poland and the Tethyan character of those in the Tatra Mountains are evident in the composition of the analyzed assemblages. -

A newly discovered fossil cephalopod jaw apparatus that may belong to Permian representatives of the Endocochlia is described. Permorhynchus dentatus n. gen. n. sp. is established on the basis of this ~ apparatus. The asymmetry of jaws in the Ectocochlia may be connected with the double function of the ventral jaw apparatus, and the well-developed, relatively large frontal plate of the ventral jaw should be regarded as a feature common to all representatives of ectocochlian cephalopods evolved from early Palaeozoic stock. Abstract. The aspidoceratid ammonites have been traditionally included in the superfamily Perisphinctoidea. However, the basis of this is unclear for they bear unique combinations of characters unknown in typical perisphinctoids: (1) the distinct laevaptychus, (2) stout shells with high growth rate of the whorl section area, (3) prominent ornamentation with tubercles, spines and strong growth lines running in parallel over strong ribs, (4) lack of constrictions, (5) short to very short bodychamber, and (6) sexual dimorphism characterized by minia- turized microconchs and small-sized macroconchs besides the larger ones, including changes of sex during ontogeny in many cases. Considering the uniqueness of these characters we propose herein to raise the family Aspidoceratidae to the rank of a superfamily Aspi- doceratoidea, ranging from the earliest Late Callovian to the Early Berriasian Jacobi Zone. The new superfamily includes two families, Aspidoceratidae (Aspidoceratinae, Euaspidoceratinae, Epipeltoceratinae and Hybonoticeratinae), and Peltoceratidae (Peltoceratinae and Gregoryceratinae nov. subfam.). They are preserved in situ in the body cham- ber and characterized by a widely open outer lamella with a nearly flat rostral portion. The outer lamella consists of an inner “chitinous” layer sculptured by a median furrow in the anterior to mid-portions and an outer calcareous layer with prismatic microstructure. The lower jaw features of the two Menuites spe- cies are shared by other species of the Pachydiscidae described in previous works, indicating that they are diagnostic characters of this family. In view of the shovel-like shape without a pointed rostrum, the lower jaws of the two Menuites species were likely used as a scoop to feed on microorganisms. Anisian (Middle Triassic) ammonoids from North America: quantitative biochronology and biodiversity Claude Monnet and Hugo Bucher Paläontologisches Institut und Museum, Universität Zürich, Karl Schmid Strasse 4, CH-8006 Zürich, Switzerland email: [email protected]; [email protected] ABSTRACT: This study synthesizes and revises the ammonoid zonations as well as their correlation with each other for western Nevada (USA), British Columbia (Canada), and the Sverdrup Basin (Canada) by utilizing the unitary association method. Based on a standard- ized taxonomy, the Anisian in the studied areas contains 13, 10, and 3 zones and a total of 174, 90, and 7 species, respectively. The zonations are correlated by means of a ‘common taxa zonation’, which includes all taxa common to the studied basins. This leads to new and more precise correlations, which are at slight variance with those of the literature. Hence, the Buddhaites hagei Zone (Canada) corre- lates only with the Intornites mctaggarti Subzone (Nevada) and not with the entire Acrochordiceras hyatti Zone (Nevada). The Tetsaoceras hayesi Zone (Canada) appears to correlate with the Unionvillites hadleyi Subzone (Nevada) of the hyatti Zone and not with the Nevadisculites taylori Zone. The Hollandites minor Zone (Canada) more than likely correlates with the taylori Zone (Nevada) rather than the Balatonites shoshonensis Zone as is usually acknowledged. The unitary association method enables us to quantify the diachronism of the studied taxa, which affects about 67% of the genera and 18% of the species common to Nevada and British Columbia. Therefore, this diachronism is significant and its value for correlation should not be overlooked. -
