Preferred Citation Note [Identification of item], Series number, Box and Folder number, Arthur O'Connell Papers, 044, Department of Archives and Special Collections, William H. Hannon Library, Loyola Marymount University. Acquisition Information Gift of Arthur O'Connell, probably 1972. Accession number: 1995.8. Processing Information Kathryn Jigursky, at unknown date, processed the Arthur O'Connell Papers. In 2014, Alvaro González finished processing them. He and Clay Stalls created the EAD collection guide that same year. Collection Description The Arthur J. O'Connell collection includes records Arthur O'Connell amassed between 1929 and his death in May of 1981. The source of this material is unknown, although it probably came from him. The exact date this material was donated is also unknown, but based on other records, 1972 is the most plausible date. The records include: photographs, scripts, plaques, correspondence, contracts, financial records, programs, playbills, periodicals, memoranda, agendas and articles. This collection focuses on O'Connell's acting career, and O'Connell's parts in movies, television and theatre are well-documented by the scripts and photographs in the collection. Other topics include: the American National Theatre and Assembly, which O'Connell was President of the Southern California Chapter in 1965 and 1966; O'Connell's work with the USO providing entertainment for troops during the Vietnam war; some personal and professional friendships; and theatre and movie playbills collected by O'Connell from 1936-1969. An attempt was made to maintain original order wherever feasible. This original order involved the numbering of documents, and documents were filed in ascending numerical order, although this sometimes resulted in material that was not included in this organization. These unnumbered documents were placed at the end of a series. Arthur O'Connell Biography A native New Yorker, Arthur O'Connell (1908-1981) acted on both the stage, including the Mercury Theater of Orson Welles, and the screen. In the latter venue, he became a capable and well-known character actor and earned two Academy Award nominations, one for "Picnic" (1956), the other for "Anatomy of a Murder" (1959), nominations documented the materials in this collection (see Series 1). Arrangement The Arthur O'Connell Papers are arranged in nine series: Series One: Correspondence Series Two: Contracts and Legal Documents Series Three: Financial Records Series Four: American National Theatre and Academy Series Five: Scripts Series Six: Programs and Playbills Arthur O'Connell Papers 044 044 2 Series Seven: Photographs Series Eight: Periodicals Series Nine: Plaques, Awards, and Scrapbooks Subjects and Indexing Terms Film scripts Playbills O'Connell, Arthur, 1908-1991 O'Connell, Arthur, 1908-1991 -- Archives Motion picture industry -- History -- 20th century Series 1: Correspondence. 1950-1972 Physical Description: 4.0 Boxes Series Description In addition to correspondence, this series includes: rough drafts of letters, mailing lists, birthday cards, postcards, newspaper articles, brochures, press releases, flyers, and other material related to the correspondence. Invoices and receipts found among the correspondence were transferred to Series 3. We know that evil is an immense fund of capital shared among all people, and that there is nothing in the criminal heart, no matter how horrible, whose germ is not also to be found in our own hearts.” - François Mauriac “The principal source of violence between human beings is mimetic rivalry, the rivalry resulting from imitation of a model who becomes a rival or of a rival who becomes a model” (I See Satan, 2). - René Girard “Ordinary men are usually part of a social and moral network that helps them maintain their humanity toward others and prevents them from becoming involved in inhuman acts. In order to socialize them into becoming murderers, they have to be insulated from their original social network and an alternative network has to be created for the potential killers, composed of men like themselves, led by a genocidal authority.

(Book Scifi Fiction) Scifi Novel Prologue: The Fixer The night brought a chill with it, as always. Like many nights before, the sky was pitch black. The stars and moon shined right off the water. It seemed as if you could grab them. I was sitting on the pier, like I always did. I come out here for the serenity. See, being what I am, I don't get any time to myself. I am what one call the fixer. Some would call me a politician, a cheat, a con, a witch, a warlock, a vampire a shape shifter, and many more names. They are attributed to me because of what I do.They are meaningless to me. I deal with problems others don't want to even here about. To top this off I get very little pay for it. What happens is a journalist, the police, the FBI, the CIA, even the NSA comes to me with these problem that tend to be of super natural origin. They usually want them to disappear.
