AMERICA and BRITAIN in Prophecy AMERICA and BRITAIN in prophecy by David C. Pack Herbert W. Armstrong led the Worldwide Church of God (formerly The Radio Church of God until 1968) until his death in 1986. Hundreds of millions heard his voice and read his literature. God called him in the fall of 1926 and he was converted in the spring of 1927. Over the course of Mr. Armstrong’s ministry, God revealed through him a great many true biblical doctrines, which had been lost to the Church through the centuries. After his death, his successors ceased to believe and teach these doctrines. Although copyright law prohibits The Restored Church of God from reproducing and distributing literature produced while he led the Worldwide Church of God, we are committed to the preservation and teaching of all of these truths! THIS BOOK IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE AND IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST BY THE RESTORED CHURCH OF GOD. It is made possible by the voluntary, freely given tithes and offerings of the members of the Church and others who have elected to support the work of the Church. Contributions are welcomed and gratefully accepted. Those who wish to voluntarily aid and support this WORK OF GOD around the world are gladly welcomed as co-workers in this major effort to preach the gospel to all nations. Printed in the United States of America All nations are now rushing toward the grand smash events foretold to occur in the “last days.” Humanity plunges ahead— blind, pleasure-crazed and largely detached from important world events occurring daily. American, British, Canadian and other Western leaders would take action, if they only knew what lies ahead. Great prophet- ic truths, revealing amazing—indeed ASTONISHING—climactic changes soon to stagger all civilization, go unrecognized. But Western leaders, with the rest of the world, remain in ignorance—WHY? Now you CAN learn what vast millions have NOT understood! A Others are now coming to pass. Still others are yet to occur. These all involve the greatest nations in the history of the world— and they are part of a divine purpose far beyond the imagination of the world’s most brilliant minds! Approximately one-third of the Bible is prophecy—history written in advance. Over 80 percent of this future history is yet to be fulfilled. Tragically, most Bible readers are completely unaware of awesome, impending world events, soon to shock all nations— focusing first on the greatest nations. Vast sections of Scripture are hidden from them, and remain lost to their understanding. The result is that most simply have no idea what the future holds. Even those who are interested in learning remain tangled in a Gordian knot of disjointed, confusing, competing—and plain wrong!— popular ideas and opinions. They remain ignorant of fascinating, incredible—and truly vital!—knowledge, life-changing knowl- edge. This need not be you! God intended these “great nations prophecies” be understood, or He would not have recorded them. They involve events no man could carry out—but God can—and their fulfillment does not hinge on the thinking or agreement of human beings. God’s Word is “sure” and all would “do well” to “take heed”—pay attention!—to what God makes known. 8 AMERICA AND BRITAIN IN PROPHECY The most educated, prosperous and influential civilizations have all come and gone, with no exceptions. The pattern of history is that Rome, Egypt, Babylon, Greece, Persia, and other powerful, developed empires, rose to dizzying heights before crumbling and final collapse. Will America’s and Britain’s future be the same? Everything is at stake for the Anglo-Saxon peoples—literally. Cataclysmic prophecies must yet be fulfilled—and these will soon begin to crash upon unsuspecting populations. You can, indeed you must, understand all that lies ahead for hundreds of millions. The ultimate future of the American and British peoples is astounding, with their greatest period of prosperity and world influ- ence yet ahead. But this time will not come as their leaders, planners and thinkers might hope. What precedes it is totally unexpected. When related Bible passages are placed together in clear and concise form—the Bible is a jigsaw puzzle, and it must be permitted to interpret itself—the prophecies about America and Britain (and certain other Western countries) are not difficult to understand. In fact, you will wonder why so few have been able to comprehend them. God has left a plain message in His Word—a clear path—for those willing to read and understand, and willing to accept blunt warnings, impossible to misunderstand. If this is you, it is necessary to read the whole book, through the final chapter. May God help you comprehend all you are about to learn! CHAPTER ONE 9 Great Nations in Prophecy uppose you could know the direction and conclusion of world S events—world history—in advance of the outcome. What if you could know the courses of nations before they happen? What if the future of great nations—indeed the greatest nations—could be known? In other words, imagine knowing tomorrow’s biggest head- lines before they come to pass, and how events will affect you, and every human being, personally. Now imagine knowing in detail exactly what is in store for the United States and Britain—the greatest nations in all history. Again, the governments and leaders of the West do not know the shocking, world-shattering changes just over the horizon for the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and certain Western European nations—with the Middle East at the center of many explosive events. But you can know—and, if you read carefully, you soon will! Ominous Signs Abound Turmoil, fear and confusion now grip the nations of the West. Terrorism, resultant economic upheaval and widespread uncertainty have left people confused, not knowing where to turn for answers to the great questions about the future, now on the minds of millions! Many sense that the differences both between and within nations are intensifying, threatening to spin out of control. New and different 10 AMERICA AND BRITAIN IN PROPHECY power blocs are forming, with some traditional alliances wavering, waning or disappearing. Ominous signs of grave difficulty in resolving humanity’s most fundamental problems are everywhere. Many sense that the world is hurtling toward terrible trouble, even absolute calamity. Disease, famine and war sweep the planet. New diseases are continually appearing and old ones are reappearing worse than ever. This and famine, which always follows in the wake of war, are decimating entire segments of local populations. Weapons of mass destruction, so incomprehensibly destructive that they boggle the mind, now threaten humanity as never before. Many nations have learned to live “on alert” to terrorist “cells,” which can strike anywhere with- out notice. World conditions, events and trends speak daily in frightening terms about how things could quickly turn in the wrong direction. The courses of nations, indeed the greatest nations, hang in the balance. History shows that all the great civilizations eventually crashed, having become decadent, awash in material prosperity, greed—and educated in wrong knowledge. This can happen again! Of course, many are unmoved—unfazed—not concerned about the tumultuous events surrounding them, trusting that things will work out in the end “because they always do.” Believing things will eventually “turn out alright,” these close their eyes, choosing to pursue pleasure and the accumulation of material goods at a frantic pace. But for the short term, things will not turn out alright. World conditions are and will become infinitely more serious than most realize. At the same time, regarding just the physical location of nations, the “Generation X,” and now the much worse “Millennials,” reflect an appalling ignorance of the most basic geography, and a nearly total lack of knowledge about even the most rudimentary under- standing of relationships between countries—with studies revealing that most people ages 18 to 24 cannot even

  • St John's Church, Blackheath Isaiah the Two Cities Reading Plan
St John’s Church, Blackheath Isaiah The Two Cities Reading Plan: September to December 2019 “Come now, let us settle the matter”, says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword” (Isaiah 1:18-20, NIV) Introduction Between the beginning of September and the beginning of December this year, our Sunday morning sermons will be looking at the book of Isaiah. This reading plan is designed to accompany the sermon series. Parts of Isaiah are familiar to most Christians: for example, the prophecy of the birth of Immanuel (Ch.7 v.14); the prophecy beginning “For to us a child is born” (Ch.9 v.6); and the suffering servant prophecy (Ch.52 v.13ff). Many songs are drawn from Isaiah: for example, “Everlasting God” (“Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord”), which is based on Ch.40 vv.29-31; the Battle Hymn of the Republic (“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord”) which is based on Ch.63 vv.1-6; and over a third of Handel’s Messiah, which is drawn from many different parts of the book. And many ideas that we associate with other parts of the Bible come originally from Isaiah (notably the idea of a new heaven and earth, which is in Ch.65 v.17).

ABSTRACT The Royal Alexandrian Library (RAL) is considered by modern scholarship to represent the epitome of the development of ancient librarianship. Its extensive holdings imply the application of modern organizational procedures such as collection development, information retrieval and promotion of use - terms identifiable as elements embodied in the conceptual framework of librarianship (for the purposes of this study the latter two concepts - information retrieval and promotion of use - are combined into the simplified general concept of "collection accessibility").

  • The Two Phases of Western Phoenician Expansion Beyond the Huelva Finds: an Interpretation*
2409-09_AWE_8(2009)_01 30-03-2010 15:11 Pagina 1 doi: 10.2143/AWE.8.0.2045835 AWE 8 (2009) 1-20 THE TWO PHASES OF WESTERN PHOENICIAN EXPANSION BEYOND THE HUELVA FINDS: AN INTERPRETATION* F. G ONZÁLEZ DE CANALES, L. SERRANO AND J. LLOMPART Abstract The authors suggest that the Phoenicians’ westward expansion came about in two phases differentiated by the objectives and nature of their settlements. During the first or ‘pre- colonial-emporitan’ phase, the Huelva emporion was founded and a series of landfalls was established in the Mediterranean, the main objective being the pursuit of high-value resources. The second phase or ‘colonial-emporitan’, irrespective of any pressure from an increased population on food resources in the Levant, might have been caused, at least in part, by Assyrian aggression. Colonies could accommodate new populations with a subse- quent intensification of agricultural activity. Introduction One of the most significant events following the eclipse of the great Graeco-Near Eastern power centres in the Bronze Age was Phoenician commercial and colonial expansion towards the central-western Mediterranean and through the Straits of Gibraltar to the Atlantic coasts of Andalusia, Portugal and Morocco. The first stage would affect Cyprus, given its proximity and richness in copper. Some tombs dated to Cypro-Geometric I at Kouklia (Palaepaphos)-Skales, Episkopi-Kaloriziki and Salamis, and, in some cases, to Recent Cypriot III B, contain Phoenician pottery from the mid-11th century BC.1 The Phoenician presence in Cyprus brought about the foundation of the colony of Kition towards the end of the 9th century BC.

  • Again the LORD Spoke to Ahaz, Saying, Ask a Sign of the LORD Your God; Let It Be Deep As Sheol Or High As Heaven. but Ahaz Said
Readings for December 22, 2019 Fourth Sunday of Advent Isaiah 7:10-16. Context. In the 730s BC, the Assyrian kings began a campaign of imperial expansion to the south towards Egypt. They threatened the much smaller kingdoms of Syria, Ephraim, and Judah. Syria and Ephraim had formed an alliance, but Judah had not joined them. So Syria and Ephraim began an assault on Judah to force Judah’s cooperation. For whatever reason, the king of Judah at the time, Ahaz, didn’t seem interested in what God through Isaiah had to say to him. But God gave him a sign anyway to proclaim to him that within a few short years, Syria and Ephraim would no longer be a threat. Ahaz had nothing to do but trust in God’s promise. The sign was this: a pregnant young woman (probably Isaiah’s wife) would bear a son, who would be called Immanuel, “God with us.” (Isaiah had another son whose name, Shear-jashub, was interpreted “A remnant shall return,” suggesting that most of Judah’s enemies would be crushed.) And by the time this child, Immanuel, was weaned and understood the difference between right and wrong, Syria and Ephraim would be defeated. Indeed, by 721 BC, Assyria had conquered the kingdoms of Syria and Ephraim. The words of Isaiah had come true. Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test.

GREEK ‘CULTURAL TRANSLATION’ OF CHALDEAN LEARNING by MOONIKA OLL A Thesis Submitted to The University of Birmingham For the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology School of History and Cultures College of Arts and Law The University of Birmingham May 2014 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. Abstract The investigation into the relationship between Greek and Babylonian systems of learning has overwhelmingly focused on determining the elements that the former borrowed from the latter, while the fundamental questions relating to the process of transmission of these elements are still largely ignored. This thesis, therefore, offers a preliminary theoretical framework within which the movement of ideas should be analysed. The framework is based on the understanding that all ideas from one culture, when they are to enter another thought and belief system, must be ’translated’ into the concepts and terminology prevalent in their new context. An approach is developed which exploits the concept of ’cultural translation’ as put forward within various modern disciplines. The thesis examines how the ’translatability’ of the material from the perspective of the receiving culture influences its inclusion into the new ’home repertoire’ and determines the changes it undergoes as part of this process.

Few statements could have made a more startling impact. The eleven middle-aged men already stood uncomfortably as mere merchant-traders--tenders of flocks and herds-- before the most powerful prime minister in the world. Now they truly were astonished and speechless. Could it be? What must have passed through the minds of these shocked and frightened listeners who, incidentally, were the very ones responsible for selling this Joseph into captivity in the first place? 9. The last time they knowingly had seen their brother, Joseph, was an impetuous and outspoken 17 year old. They had watched as he disappeared into the distance, no doubt vigorously protesting his sale into the hands of Midianite slave-traders (Genesis 37:12-28). How could those brothers have known the incredible adventures--the remarkable ups and downs through which their younger sibling had passed during the intervening two decades? 10. Certainly, Joseph’s experiences had been incredible: transported against his will to Egypt, the dominant power of that region of the world (Genesis 37:36); sold as a slave to a high- ranking Egyptian official and officer in the very court of Pharaoh (Genesis 39:1-6); gaining respectability and position in his newfound
