RADISSON RED GLASGOW

IT’S THE funky new Glasgow hotel that everyone’s talking about and when we were sitting in the fantastic RED Sky Bar looking out at The SSE Hydro and the Finnieston Crane we understood why. The Radisson RED Glasgow opened its doors in the city’s west end to great acclaim just a few months ago. Located in the heart of Glasgow’s music and arts scene – just a short walk from The SSE Hydro – the hotel provides an ideal base from which to explore the city. It is the first new-build Radisson RED to open in Europe so it really is different to any other hotel you’ve ever been in. Modern, fun, mischievous and definitely pushing the boundaries of hospitality, you’ll experience keyless check-in, super-fast WiFi and friendly staff. If you’re lucky like me you might meet Baxter the ON THE TRAIL OF Boston terrier, the hotel’s dog, who is usually patrolling the reception area or snoozing, depending on how busy his day has been. GLASGOW: News & Reviews EATING OUT?

BILSON ELEVEN I LIVED in Dennistoun, just a short distance from TRNSMT Glasgow city centre, for 10 years – a very long time ago, I would add – when its dining-out scene was somewhat limited. FESTIVAL This vibrant district of Glasgow’s east end, however, has changed beyond recognition and it’s home to some lovely cafés and eateries, including the excellent Coia’s that is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. TO RETURN But if you’re looking for a slightly different experience then the place everyone’s talking about is Bilson Eleven, a small but perfectly formed fine-dining restaurant in a 19th-century townhouse in Annfield Place. IN 2019 My interest had been piqued for a while as several friends kept telling me “you must go”. And so we found ourselves sitting in Bilson Eleven – named after AS THE sun set on summer music extravaganza TRNSMT the owners’ children Billy and Sonny – on a warm the organisers have confirmed that the festival will return to Wednesday evening, completely unprepared for what over the weekend of July 12-14, 2019. was to come. I wasn’t disappointed. Indeed, I was impressed by the competency of the cooking here, dishes created with the type of flair that comes from a kitchen where the chefs are passionate, ambitious and bold, and not afraid to experiment. Chef Rietz combines classic flavours and techniques, using Scottish ingredients in season but also occasionally throwing in unexpected and unusual spice combinations to create simple, tasty dishes that are made with love and care.
