Bring your own meat and a salad or pudding to share. Fires will be provided. DIRECTIONS : 8km west of on the N2 take the turn-off. Follow this road for 12.6km and take the Bibby’s Hoek/Millwood Goldfields turn-off to the right, becoming gravel. You will reach a boom at a 4-way crossing. SUNDAY 6 MARCH : TIME: 9h00 – Note early start! N.B: SEE ATTACHMENT! VENUE : The VALLEY of DE VLUGT, Prince Alfred Pass, the home of Ursula Peter and John Allen. DIRECTIONS : Directions from Knysna, and George are in the attachment. Nearer to the time we will try to arrange lifts for those who are not happy to travel the road by themselves. TOPIC : John and Ursula will be showing us the incredible work they have put into alien eradication and replanting of indigenous trees and aloes in and near De Vlugt (see attachment details). As Bontebok is a National Park we have been fortunate to secure advance reservations but ONLY until 20 January. Please pay urgent attention to reserving your place and paying the deposit as indicated. ACTIVITIES : Saturday: visit to Koloniesbos and Duiwelsbos, afromontane forests in the Marloth Reserve. Sunday a.m: at leisure or various easy nature walks from the camp. Interesting tree specimens along the Breede River. DIRECTIONS : On the N2, 5km east of Sedgefield, turn right from Knysna, left from Sedgefield). onto the Karatara Road, carry on straight up the Barrington Road. Follow the signs, not far. TOPIC : How the cottages in the forest in the forest are built and integrated without too much disturbance of the natural indigenous forest. A short walk into the valley is envisaged. SUNDAY25SEPTEMBER : TIME: 10h00 VENUE : KRUISFONTEIN (A Cape Pine Plantation) DIRECTIONS : Kruisfontein is situated 6.3km east of the Knysna Police Station on the N2 (right-hand side). From Plettenberg Bay it is 9.4km west of the Garden of Eden (left-hand side). TOPIC :  View an historical Eucalyptus globulus as well as a stand of Eucalyptus diversicolor. Last-mentioned is discussed in ‘The Champion Trees of ”, Enrico and Erna Liebenberg, pg 73.  Double up in 4x4’s and travel to view a group of large Redwoods.  Enjoy your own picnic lunch. SUNDAY 6 NOVEMBER : TIME: 10h00 VENUE : REDFORD HOUSE, 12 Redford Road, The Crags, a historic country guest house owned by Clive and Colleen Noble. DIRECTIONS : 20km east from Plettenberg Bay reach the Crags. Just after the shopping centre turn left onto Redford Road (dirt) for 3km to Redford House. TOPIC : “Rehabilitation Success after the Fire of 1997” The estate is 22 hectares in extent of which 20 hectares is a nature reserve and part of the Redford Conservancy, i.e. all the properties in the Crags north of the N2 affiliated to Cape Nature.
