E U R O P E ALBANIA From 27 May to 22 June, UNHCR organised an exhibition of paintings titled "Colours of Albania in the World" at the Albanian Gallery of Arts. The exhibition brought home 23 Albanian artists living and working abroad. Some are refugees from the previous regime, others are migrants, but all have been living abroad for many years. The artwork reflects their nostalgia for their home country, and artists Ibrahim Kodra and Omer Kaleshi have been called symbols of Albanian culture. The exhibition focused on respect for migrants and refugees, as well as on the positive contributions they can make to host societies. About 600 persons attended the launching ceremony. Media coverage was excellent, including 30 articles and 18 TV and radio mentions during the month of the exhibition. About USD 20,000 were raised through local fundraising efforts to cover the expenses of the event. The exhibition was organised in partnership with the International Organization for Migration and the National Gallery of Arts, under the auspices of the Albanian Prime Minister. ARMENIA UNHCR participated in the morning TV programme on Armenian national TV. During the programme, a UNHCR official answered questions related to housing projects and the local integration of refugees. In addition, some Armenian TV stations broadcast the World Refugee Day TV spot for 15 days. An exhibition-sale of refugees' art work was also organised to show that the most appropriate durable solution for ethnic Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan is local integration in Armenia. The exhibition was appreciated; some of the refugees were asked to make some crafts for souvenir shops.

Albanian Literary Circle In Italy by Leka Ndoja Abstract Italy's Literary Circle with its creation after the political emigration wave (1945-1990), in the context of Italian - Arbëresh Colony, as a paradigm of the Albanian Literary System during national Revival, was involved in an aggregate of literary and cultural activities. The Literary Circle of Albanian Diaspora in Italy, marked in production, volume, and norm and determined by university institutions of Palermo - Rome - Naples - Bari. Those universities rendered possible the appropriate climate to set up a national literary sub-system model with all systemic components: production, publications and system-creative magazines as Shêjzat [The Pleiades] (august 1957 - 1978), Koha e Jonë [Our Time] (1962-1992); systemic-center authors as: Father Georg Fishta O.F.M.-Ernest Koliqi and Martin Camaj. But, Ernest Koliqi was as the director of the Albanian Studies Institute at Rome University, the master-key of an increasing in the volume of the intercultural activities, as regards the institutional critique, various national celebrations of emigrants, and international symposiums such as the 20th anniversary of the death of Father George Fishta O.F.M.; or the celebrations on the 500th anniversary of the death of Scanderbeg, in Palermo and Rome (1968). But the main merit of Koliqi was to restore a new Albanian Literary Center in the West and the foundation in Rome of Shêjzat literary magazine. With the participation of Threes Productions. Una Boccata d’Arte is a contemporary art project spread all over Italy, in all of its regions, that promotes the meeting of contemporary art with the historical and artistic beauty of the country’s most scenic and evocative villages. From June 26 to September 26, 2021, the second edition of the project brings us on a new cultural journey that includes twenty new villages, one for each Italian region, and twenty selected artists, who will realize twenty site-specific works. From Valle d'Aosta to Sardinia, it aims to involve not only art buffs and insiders, but also a wider and more transversal audience. The twenty villages, selected each year on the basis of: less than 5000 inhabitants; the presence of an active cultural scene; and a capacity for family- run artisanal, commercial and hospitality industries, welcome twenty site specific artworks created by emerging and established artists, all of whom have been invited by the Fondazione Elpis and Galleria Continua. Una Boccata d’Arte gives full creative freedom to the artist and allows the use of any artistic media, exploring various themes that dialogue in a convincing way with the villages. By choice, Fondazione Elpis pays attention to the educational and social impacts of its own activities.

“Literature led me to freedom, not the other way round” ISMAIL KADARE DESPITE being a small country, with its language - one of the oldest and rarest - with its ancient Illyrian culture, and among the constant chaos and turmoil of history, Albania has created an original literature with outstanding figures, such as Ismail Kadare. The epochal changes that followed 1990 brought to Albanian literature a new generation of writers whose work is being introduced across the borders, among which: Bashkim Shehu, Luljeta Lleshanaku, Agron Tufa, Parid Teferici, Rudi Erebara, Idlir Azizaj, Arian Leka, Romeo Çollaku, Virion Graci, etc. The Ministry of Culture, as the main institution that compiles and implements book policies in Albania, as well as supports and promotes Albanian literature abroad, is bringing to this Fair the creative work of this generation of writers, aiming to create a space for international dialogue that respects creative and cultural diversity. This year we celebrate also the 10-th anniversary of TRADUKI, the European translation network where Albania has been part since 2014, which is a common cultural space with 10 languages, 11 participating countries and 17 supporting institutions. The Federal Foreign Minister of Germany Mr. Sigmar Gabriel, the Minister of Culture of Albania Mrs. Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, and the writer Mr. Christoph Ransmayr will greet one of the most successful initiatives of the cultural cooperation among European countries. The Albanian stand, where the traditional meets the modern, is conceived as a place of promotion and discussion of important topics in contemporary Albanian literature, including memory, confronting the dictatorial past, the society’s adaptation to radical historical changes, emigration, coexistence, integration, etc.
