Out of nearly 300,000 entries, 10 BWood students won the honor of having their work displayed at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Five of these talented artists also auctioned their pieces! ONLY the top 3 most voted on artworks receive $1,000 for their school art program and $1,000 for the district art program. Rasco Middle School is fortunate enough to have TWO students in this contest. It goes from March 9th to April 3rd. Both girls received a Glassell school scholarship for the summer. Congratulations girls! A.P. Beutel had 356 students & staff that participated in collecting donations for the American Heart Association. They raised $12,000! Every Beutel student participates on the day of Jump Rope for Heart regardless of whether or not they brought money because they are all Heart Hero's. Congratulations to both our Lady Exporters Soccer and Exporter EXPORTER POWER! Boys’ Soccer! They beat Bay City Boys Powerlifting team won the to become District Champs! Class 4A division 2 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! Way to go BPort Boy's Golf! Velasco choir did a wonderful job at the ribbon cutting and had great representation from SFA, FIS, and B'port. It was a true community celebration! Congratulations to Brazoswood Lady Buc pitcher Madison Philips will continue her softball career at the University of Texas at Tyler next season. Philips, sitting, is joined by, back row, from left, Brazoswood Lady Buc head coach Laura Oltman, assistant coach Stacy Neiswander, father Chris Philips and mother Faith Philips. First graders at O.M. Roberts Elementary learned about Children's Dental Health Month in February. To help us celebrate, Dr. Bell, DDS, and Dr. Crocker DDS donated 110 toothbrushes to our first grade students. Thank you Dr. Bell and Dr. Crocker! Three BPort students traveled to Dallas to compete at Business Professionals of America state competition. Michael Green placed 9th in Basic Office Systems & Procedures. Also competing was Jacob Mageors in Graphic Design Promotion and Briar Smith in Advanced Office Systems & Procedures. They participated in the Internship Program where they volunteered at least 3 hours of their time to help the conference run smoothly. They also competed in Open Events, which are multiple choice tests over a variety of business related topics. Ms. Rutledge's Jane Long Elementary kindergarten class received Honorable Mention in the Milk Carton Construction Contest for the Brazosport ISD Operations and Child Nutrition Services. They made a Milk Robot with Muscles that said "Milk Makes You Strong". Great job guys!! BISD recognizes elementary and secondary principals and assistant principals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their positions, utilizing exceptional leadership skills. Teachers, students, former students, parents, administrators, and members of the community were encouraged to submit nominations. Ogg Elementary School Elementary Principal of the Year Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year Julie Evans Kimberly Ziehl On March 17, 2015, Cedric Mack was inducted into the Exporter Baseball Hall of Fame. Mr. Mack is a 1979 graduate of Brazosport High School where he participated in Baseball, Football, Basketball, Orchestra, and Jazz Band, receiving all-state honors in Baseball, Football, Orchestra and Band. He was drafted out of high school by the New York Yankees, but chose to go to Baylor University to play Baseball and Football. In football, Mr. Mack garnered all SWC conference honors. Upon graduation, Cedric Mack was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL and played for ten seasons. Since retirement from the NFL, Mr. Mack has become a high school teacher and coach. Mr. Mack resides in Lake Jackson and teaches and coaches football and golf at Angleton High School. Cedric Mack joins prior inductees Ronnie Broaddus, Brad Thomas, and RB Carroll. A plaque commemorating this honor is mounted on the concession stand wall at the entrance to Exporter Field. Congratulations Cedric and thank you for modeling excellence for student-athletes at Brazosport High School. Energy Improvement Award Winner Congratulations goes to the staff of Brazoswood High School for earning the monthly Energy Im- provement award this month. Brazoswood came in with a savings of 19% from December 2014 to January 2015. Lanier Middle School came In second place with a savings of 17.5% and Jane Long Elementary placed third with 14.7%.
