J. A CONTEMPLATIVE, A MYSTIC? FOUNDER OF THE MISSIONARY DAUGHTERS OF THE MOST PURE VIRGIN MARY A tree is known for its fruits, it is a popular saying, but it expresses a truth… and thinking about Father, Alberto. We see how this tree produced great and beautiful fruits for the Glory of God, and the extension of His Kingdom, the Church. We know that our Father Alberto lived “alone” most part of his religious life, because he was persecuted by his own religious brothers; brilliant in his first years, when he had the opportunity to preach in Temples, very well attended, and with hundreds of persons attracted with his word full of fervor and fire, for the love he had for Christ and Mary, Christ’s Mother… After that time mentioned, he was called by God to be the Founder of a great Work in the Church: “Apostolate of the Cross”, and afterwards to a Congregation of women-religious, dedicated to “Love and console the inner sorrows of the Sacred Heart of Jesus”… but following this time, God permitted that he be sent away from his brothers, from the foundations he had began and even threaten to be expelled from the Company of Jesus, to whom he loved dearly. In that way he was supposed to live alone, abandoned, rejected by his brothers. He had to carry the cross of his Christ, and his heart also had to be filled with sorrow, as the one of his Christ, for this reason nobody saw him live a long time. He passed away when he became 64. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Nevertheless there were two persons that lived close to him. They lived his doctrine and grew in sanctification under his teachings and examples of his virtues. Two holy women: One religious of the Congregation of “The visitation of Mary”, Monday: Zec 8:1-8; Ps 102:16- Mother Angelica Alvarez Icaza, whose cause of canonization is well advanced… The other religious is our Foundries, Mother 21, 29, 22-23; Mt 18:1-5, 10 Julia Navarrete Guerrero, to whom he directed spiritually, and whose cause of canonization is also well advanced. Both of Tuesday: Zec 8:20-23; Ps 87:1b- them explained how Father Mir directed them to holiness. 7; Lk 9:51-56 Wednesday: Neh 2:1-8; Ps Mother Julia confirms in her notes, sent to her spiritual Director, Fr. Rafael Checa Curie, his ascension to the spiritual 137:1-6; Lk 9:57-62 intimacy with God. Mother Julia affirms when she was asked, for her biography, “Was Father Mir a contemplative, a mystic? Thursday: Neh 8:1-4a, 5-6, 7b- She answered with assurance; “Yes he was” and she proved her answer presenting precise data to confirm her founded 12; Ps 19:8-11; Lk 10:1-12 opinion: “His prayer was constant, he was living in the world, but his spirit was in God. Frequently we could see him Friday: Bar 1:15-22; Ps 79:1b-5, abstracted in intense recollection, and talking to God. Sometimes we saw him standing, in front of the image of Christ Crucified, that was in the room, where he received the sisters, and as if he were talking to Him, his face became red, with 8-9; Lk 10:13-16 Saturday:Bar 4:5-12, 27-29; Ps the fervor of his spirit and the ardor of his affection for the Lord. 69:33-37; Lk 10:17-24 When he celebrated Mass, was when particularly he called our attention for the profound recollection that truly Sunday: Is 5:1-7; Ps 80:9, 12-16, transformed him, communicating his devotion to the faithful attending. He would take the sacred Host in his hands with 19-20; Phil 4:6-9; Mt 21:33-43 such care and attention he would place it in the corporal, as if he could avoid any mistreatment to the Sacred Body of Jesus. All the ceremonies he performed with devotion, reverence and love; he would pray pronouncing each word with special clarity and fervor. In several occasions that he performed acts, in the sisters’ place, with the Blessed Sacrament exposed, before the blessing, he would talk to the Lord present in the Sacred Host.

  • College of Education Commencement 2021
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION COMMENCEMENT 2021 PB Welcome to CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY LONG BEACH California State University, Long Beach is a member of the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system. The initial college, known then as Los Angeles-Orange County State College, was established on January 29, 1949, and has since grown to become one of the state’s largest universities. The first classes in 1949 were held in a converted apartment building on Anaheim Street and the cost to enroll was just $12.50. The 169 transfer students selected from the 25 courses offered in Teacher Education, Business Education, and Liberal Arts which were taught by 13 faculty members. Enrollment increased in 1953 when freshman and sophomore students were admitted. Expansion, in acreage, degrees, courses and enrollment continued in the 1960s, when the educational mission was modified to provide instruction for undergraduate and graduate students through the addition of master’s degrees. In 1972, the California Legislature changed the name to California State University, Long Beach. Today, more than 37,000 students are enrolled at Cal State Long Beach, and the campus annually receives high rankings in several national surveys. What students find when they come here is an academic excellence achieved through a distinguished faculty, hard-working staff and an effective and visionary administration. The faculty’s primary responsibility is to create, through effective teaching, research and creative activities, a learning environment where students grow and develop to their fullest potential. This year, because of the pandemic, we will celebrate the outstanding graduates of two classes – 2020 and 2021.

John Aduseh Poku Parochial Vicar An ancient tradition holds that the Transfiguration took place forty days before Good Friday. Only a few days into the season of Lent, the Gospel Fr. Gil Hernández Pozo In Residence presents us with this image of the Lord Jesus in His glory. The evangelist tells us that the disciples were terrified. This Jesus who has been walking Mrs. Mary E. Fernández, Ed.S. School Principal with them is more than meets the eye. The voice of the Father from heaven echoes what we heard in the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord, but Mrs. Patricia Zapatero Director of Religious Education adds a command: “Listen to Him” (17:5), for in listening and following is our salvation. Roberto Berrocal Music Director As if to remind them of what is coming, as they go down the mountain Jesus orders them: “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man OFFICE HOURS has been raised from the dead” (17:9).
